Inspiring Rock Amp Born of Waza DNA
Katana—the traditional sword carried by the historic samurai of Japan—is a symbol of honor, precision, and artistry in Japanese culture. Adopting the majestic sword’s name with pride, the Katana series presents guitar amplifiers with smooth, cutting tones honed by generations of dedication and expertise. Born of the development process behind the acclaimed Waza amplifier, these innovative amps embody BOSS’s determined pursuit of the ultimate rock sound. Featuring proprietary circuit designs and meticulous tuning, the Katana series combines traditional craftsmanship and breakthrough functions to produce true next-generation rock amplifiers.

A Refined Amp with Inspiring Tone
Designed for guitarists who are serious about their sound, the Katana-Head offers class-defying power and expressiveness to meet any playing situation. A special method developed for the flagship Waza amp optimizes the head’s interaction with your connected speaker cab, giving you authoritative punch and cutting presence previously attainable only with high-end amp designs. The compact size is easy to carry to gigs, jams, and practice sessions, and the rear panel is filled with lots of connectivity for interfacing with external gear. The amp’s built-in monitor speaker is also handy, letting you check tones and practice anywhere without having to connect to a cabinet.

Five Original Amp Characters, Honed for Rock Playing
Sharpened to perfection by the Boss engineering team, the Katana-Head’s five amp characters offer everything from organic vintage tones to modern high-gain sounds. Clean is natural and transparent, while Crunch offers satisfying grit and response. Lead has a wide gain range to suit many styles, from fat, stinging blues solos to fluid legato shredding. With DNA inherited from the Waza amp, Brown delivers refined high-gain tone sought after by the world’s greatest rock players. The Acoustic character further enhances the Katana’s versatility, providing optimized tone that makes acoustic-electric guitars sound stunningly natural.

Leave Your Pedalboard at Home
With its built-in Boss effects and recallable Tone Settings, the Katana-Head lets you create fully prepared sounds for any song or style. Connecting to Boss Tone Studio via USB provides access to 55 effects that are customizable for your needs. Going beyond standard distortion, delay, and reverb, the selection also includes powerful tone-shapers like pitch shifting, ring mod, slicer, and more. You can load 15 different effects in the amp at one time and use up to three simultaneously. Four Tone Settings let you store custom amp and effects setups for instant recall, and you can always jump to the current panel settings at the touch of a button. External control is also possible with optional footswitches, expression pedals, and MIDI devices.

Grab-and-Go Operation
While the Katana-Head includes many advanced features, it’s amazingly simple to operate. Dedicated knobs for multiple gain stages, three-band EQ, and presence allow you to quickly dial in your tone by ear, just as you would with a standard tube amp. Essential effects parameters are adjusted with a simple knob twist, and Tone Setting memories can be stored with a brief button hold. In addition to throttling back the volume for small stages and home playing, the Power Control has a Standby setting that mutes the sound for switching guitars or taking breaks.

Connect and Control
The Katana-Head’s speaker out supports connection to your favorite 8-ohm or 16-ohm cab. You can also send a simultaneous direct feed to PA or recording equipment using the Line Out, which provides authentic mic’d up tone with power, fullness, and dynamics. It’s also possible to send the same mix-ready sound to your computer music recording software via USB. Advanced players will appreciate the effects loop and MIDI input, which enables easy integration with external effects and MIDI switching devices like the Boss ES-8 and ES-5.

Boss Tone Central
At the Boss Tone Central website, you’ll find numerous free amp and effects setups for the Katana series. Created by pro guitarists, these setups provide ready-to-play sounds for various music styles, and also make great starting points for building your own sounds. They load into the memories in a Katana amp via the Boss Tone Studio editor software, which is also available at the site. In addition to Katana effects selection and customization, Boss Tone Studio gives you a convenient way to organize all your Katana setups for different gigs, recordings, and practice sessions.

What is your opinion of this product?
I'm using my Katana head with Marshall speaker cabinet 1936. Power control switch is a very nice feature. Great tone overall. Boss GAFC foot controller is a must. Once you begin experimenting with the Boss Tone Studio app...your going to be hooked.

Off the chain... Excellent tone. Almost perfect.
What is your opinion of this product?
This head has excellent tone. The global EQ as well as the patch eq allows for fine adjustment of your tone. The effects are absolutely boss quality. If I had to complain about anything, boss lost their mind by only providing the head with one speaker output. You must buy their artist Edition to get multiple parallel speaker outputs. How could boss leave the head model with only one speaker output? Stupid. Awesome tone though. Awesome effects. I own a boss GT Pro rackmount from the 2000s. The GT Pro has way more adjustability than the katana. But the katana is a very close second. The lack of the additional speaker outputs for the head cost Boss 1 star in my opinion. Still excellent. The footswitch is a must. Is it allows you complete integration of the effects and adjustments. Well done boss. AMS is awesome. I get all my gear through AMS payment plans. AMS rocks and is the best for getting your gear. Thank you AMS. Thank you boss.

Best buy in a long time!
What is your opinion of this product?
I bought this to use as a practice amp, but it's my main gigging amp now. It's light, sounds great, and has a ton of power. The best part is it has great tone. I can dial in blackface tones, voxy chimes and ripping solos. All at 19 lbs. I couldn't be happier.

It's All I Expected It To Be.............
What is your opinion of this product?
As an owner of an original Roland Blues Cube 60 and a Cube 40xl I've come to know what to expect from BOSS/Roland in the way of performance and dependability and the Katana won't let anyone down. Once again they set out to offer a great sounding efficient amp for recording and live gigs and accomplished it in spades. It's powerful, loud, and very versatile. I've barely gotten beyond the clean channel which sounds great both alone and as a pedal platform. There are four more stock settings to explore plus those options in the Tone Studio and a users group has uncovered even more "Sneaky Amp" options buried even deeper and developed a "floorboard" to access those as well. I do play tube amps as well and I think anyone looking for a front line SS gigging amp or even a convenient backup to their main rig would be hard pressed to find a better value than the 100w head or either of the 100w combos. This is one amp that is exactly what it claims to be. I'm very pleased with it.

surpassed my expectations
What is your opinion of this product?
I took a chance on this after reading reviews online and YT. I will start by saying never liked modeling or solid state and use tube amps exclusively for over 30 years. But after reading the glowing reviews I wanted to try it out anyway. Honestly, I expected to be ok but nothing amzing, just like other digital amps out there. Well, I'll be darned. This amp sounds as good, it's as loud and punches as hard as my 100w tube Marshall head. First time I can say this about a digital amp. I've tried many of them in the past and never really liked them but this is at a different level completely. The effects are great too and make life a lot easier, not having to carry a pedalboard etc... hard to believe a $350 digital amp sounds this good, but it does. One of my best purchases ever. Highly recommended.

Well worth the money
What is your opinion of this product?
Only had this for a couple of days. Wasn't too sure how I felt of this small head until I hooked it up to my 4x12 cab and plugged in my guitar. It has a nice smooth reverb and plenty of options on the effects. A nice crunch distortion for a good dirty sound, a lead distortion for a nice rock sound and brown distortion for your heavier music. The 5" internal speaker can be used when the cab is not plugged in. Its not much but good to use as a practice amp by itself, which is a big plus. The power settings is a nice feature. It can be switched from a 0.5w, 50w and 100w. 50w in my opinion is loud enough. At 100w I couldn't see the volume going past halfway. It is super loud. A big bang in a small package. I'm glad I bought this Katana head. Well worth the money!
