Very Useful and Musical Tool!
What is your opinion of this product?
The ability to toggle the distortion off without defeating the clean channel, plus the overall tonal quality, made it easy for me to chose this over the Sansamp DIs. The ability to use the distortion channel for just a touch of grind, as I do and blend it with the clean, makes for one useful tool! It can certainly provide a lot of distortion, if that's your thing! As a DI, it really helps the bass sit well in the mix. I use mine in my effects chain in front of my GK MB-800 with analog compressor/chorus and as a DI. My only gripe is that the "color" switch seems to overly cut the mids and boost the sub lows a bit much. A little EQ goes a really long way on bass, so I'd take care with that. The one I received has the newer, hard black plastic knobs rather than the rubber ones. The switches, jacks and knobs seem solid and the graphics are clear. Overall, it seems well made and I do think it's a great product!

Great soloing tool!
What is your opinion of this product?
Ok. Sometimes your solo's will get lost in the mix when playing with a big horn band. This pedal allows for you to add just enough to cut through without overdriving the system. The added overdrive is just adding iceing to the cake...ect Marcus Miller's Detroit" if you know what I mean. Great pedal, I haven't figured out all that can't be done but will Great purchase for the money!

Solid alternative to a Sansamp
Iv'e owned it and played with it extensively for 7 years. From stomping on it so much Iv'e had problems with buzz and bad grounds; the pots on the inside that connect to the input jacks came undone. I had to bring it to my local repair shop to sauter it back together, and unfotunately the problem reared it's head again after about a dozen uses or so. I do realize that Iv'e been stomping on it for a number of years now, but come on, isn't that what a stomp box is made for. I still use it but I don't switch channels; I find a tone I like and keep it throught the set.
2 channels, color and noise gate buttons, distortion and blend knobs on channel 2, bass, mid, and treble knobs.
I used a bass Sansamp for years before it got stolen; I actually bought this is a replacement because it was on sale at a music store and saved me about $60 oiver buying another Sansamp. Iv'e gotten very used to the sound of this pedal and would be hesitant to go back to Sansamp. Much like a Sansamp, be judicious with your use of the tone controls. A little goes a long way. The distortion of a Sansamp is more agressive, while the MXR is more transparent and is sounds better blended in as an overdrive than a pure distortion unit.

As stated earler, a little goes a long way. Sit and tweak the controls for about 10 minutes and you will be sure to find a tone you like. With the mid knob, you can scoop out the mids or add even more for a forward attack. This is a very versatile pedal!
Painted matte black with glowing green LED indicators.

Pristine DI unit with additional capabilities
Built like a tank. Great pots with glow in the dark markers.
Bypassed tone for DI is dead silent, no hiss or hum. Two channels are quite flexible (one could be used as a mute for example). Distortion is on the "RAT" side, but it has a wide range of control and helps cut through a mix when used judiciously. I use it phantom powered and don't bring my rig to practice or gigs when I have good PA support.
Great tone. Color switch is a bit on the extreme side, but eq can tailor it nicely. If you like the sound of your bass, this is the DI to get. If you don't, try the sansamps.
Pristine bypassed, quiet, no hum. Noise gate works well but only affects the distortion channel when the gain and blend allow for some grind to come through.
