Despite much of the poor online consensus, the Force is a great addition to any setup. I am incorporating it in my production/performance workflow in tandem with ableton live link. It’s has completely changed my workflow. I was writing in Ableton, briefly sketching in clip view then straight to arrangement mode. Now, the force has opened up new possibilities, becoming the intermediary between my hardware and ableton. Get it!

The Force includes internal hard drives and expandable memory available with the option to add a SSD internally to the unit as well as add a SD card or USB memory drive from the from front. I like the clip matrix on the Force because it helps to organize music tracks visually. Each button has a multi color led and all the buttons have different states when in use. I have used the Force for over a year and it is innovative and enjoyable to work on for music production.

At first I thought that I had made a bad purchase but after having and really sitting down with it I've come to like it. This purchase was my introduction into the realm of akai , what I like about it is the workflow not even knowing that it was the ableton workflow, I've had my hands on the mpc one and I like this workflow better plus the gui is clean and easy to navigate. It's easy to load up a drumkit and put a specific sound into a keygroup like an 808 thats important for me since I make trap beats. This is truly a dawless workstation.

LONG TERM REVIEW!
I bought the Force from AMS in October of 2020. I had absolutely no clue how to use it, but I was determined to learn it. I'm thankful for all of the videos on YouTube to help me understand it. The more I used it, the easier it became. The Force sits somewhere between an MPC and an Ableton Push, and gives you the best of both wrapped in a standalone unit. The workflow is clip based, and you can make some really cool transitions with the fader. It also has a dedicated arranger that MPC users are still waiting on. My force is the centerpiece of my production process. I love it. I've been seeing a lot of MPC users modding their units to run Force software, and for good reason. It's the better of the two. I'm very happy with my purchase and I would highly recommend you invest in one while they're still at a reasonable price. I see them being very expensive once they're out of production.

I agonized over getting an Akai Force for a long, long time. But when the 3.0.6 firmware dropped, I bit.
I'm thrilled with this box. It makes the sounds in my head easy to express, and gives me hundreds of options to shape, sculpt, distort, mangle and polish them to perfection.
Warning: There's a sizeable learning curve to this box, but the learning resources and community forums will ease your pain and put you in the flow...
Enjoy it. The Akai Force is really special. Oh yeah, there's new firmware on the horizon AGAIN.
Guaranteed to turn it into even more of a beast.

I highly recommend this product. I’m a musician with 50 years experience and due to the effects of the pandemic I had to pivot my abilities in a different direction due to shutdown of of places of worship. I have shifted to music production, podcasts and internet radio. I incorporated using my akai force in these new endeavors. I don’t think I will turn back to live music and will concentrate on virtual performances where I have complete control.

After watching countless YouTube videos on this and seeing a demo in-person, I knew I wanted to add this to my studio. I also have the MPC X, but I didn’t want to take that out of the studio at all. The Force gives me options of have a song that I’ve created with me, including background vocals!! I can throw it in a backpack and roll out! I’m not tied to just being in the lab to create; I can literally be in the backyard and make a track!! With the new 3.0.6 upgrade, it was an easy decision.
AMS has pretty much furnished my studio!! Every time I think I’m done, AMS pulls me back with their easy payment plan!!

The device is well made, sturdy for stage performance! The sounds are impressive, but for mostly house music; not a good source for all types of music! I produce many genres of music and I rely on Logic ProX in my MacBook Pro. I bought the Force because I thought it would be a good addition to my studio; not the case! I can’t get the Force to trigger my TB-303 Bassline, which would be ideal for Techno house! Sampling is cool, but I’m a real musician; I like to play and not rely on tech tricks! I was excited at first, but in short, I feel I made a bad choice!

I spent months waiting for firmware updates. When I got mine, many features were missing and the hardware felt limited.
The build quality is excellent
The pads are great
The pressure sensitive encoders are wonderful.
It has powerful sampling and looping capabilities but still no drum synth. The included plugins are weak when compared to Roland or Native Instruments sounds.
Great place to start a MIDI project but it is no DAW replacement.
Props to AMS for the excellent service!

I've owned the Akai Force for close to four months and let me tell you...I love this machine. As a user of the Ableton Push 2, I wanted something that was similar to the Push 2 that was standalone, something that I could use in a live setting, and wasn't tethered to a computer, and the Akai Force gives me that. I love the fact that I can chop up samples in 64 or 128 chops, play chords and bass lines with many scale configurations to choose from, using the four built in plug-in instruments that sound REALLY good, and with the recent 3.0.5 update, you now have the ability to "lazy chop" your samples, utilize the 16 level function that is found on all Akai MPCs, arrange songs in the NEW Arranger Mode, and you can NOW import Ableton sessions inside of the Akai Force, which allows you to create across the two different platforms. I own an MPC X and in my opinion, the Akai Force comparable to the MPC X, and to be honest, it may be a better choice than the MPC X, from the stand point that you have the capabilities to import and export Ableton sessions with Force, which is a PLUS if you're collaborating with another Ableton user or if you're an Ableton user yourself, like I am. The Akai Force can do everything that the MPC X do...if not more.

this thing is an absolute blast to play with but the one I have overheats and freezes up, and by the time you are just getting warmed up you are already receiving messages that your system resources are used up, start purging - except next thing you know your audio is gone and you are having to reload - man if you are using it on a gig you end up sweating it through.
Honestly akai must be mad to short a flagship product on memory like that - hell ram is dirt cheap these days - from what I gather is more a matter of how the resources are used but they need to come up with a solution because if it was still in the return window I might be tempted for the simple fact that I bought it to loop audio but unless you are constantly purging audio don't go too farm
. An example last night I was fiddling, by the time i laid out my second audio track it was already busting my balls about resources. Sure there are some tricks to work within this limitations, but $1000 I don't want to have to come up with trucks to keep my sound from failing, I want to be focused on tricks to manipulate sound.
Until they fix that this remains a toy more than a professional tool

The force may not do everything, but what it does, it does well! At first I was really frustrated thinking how it should work and operate. I was discouraged that you could not seamlessly change projects, then I realized after spending quite a bit of time with this, is that it is more of an instrument and what you can do within one project is quite limitless. It is quite unique much like every synth I own has a limitation and a uniqueness that makes it what it is. I truly believe this is one of the most underrated samplers and instruments. The one con I have is the onboard effects. I feel it lacks Quality in the reverb department. Aside from that, if live tweaking and improve is your thing, this machine will definitely scratch your creative itch.

This was made to rock a crowd. It is not the first thing I'd grab to make a beat...the force was made for performance-performance-performance. I make music very good and very quick. I find my samples and get to going so I find it hard to do just that here. The device is however very complete with all that you need to make beats. "Instead of driving a car man feels like I'm in a tank".
Stands out: There are too many features (thats a good thing though}
What I like: colors tech advancements you need for overal beat making.
How long I have had it: about 3 weeks or so
Does it meet my expectations: No not mine ... (I thought my samples would be laid across the total rainbow display but I find myself having to assign sample parts to a small 16 part portion on the board). I wanted to be able to easily paste sample slices across the whole dash then use that feature to remix sampled parts to create my own uniuqe tune.
However plenty of sounds and penty of ways to experiment and DJ. I really wanted the MPC ONE.

It's super innovative and a blast to learn. I have used Ableton for years and the way the Akai Force's DAW is setup makes it seem slightly familiar. ALTHOUGH, im yet to find any way to actually integrate the standalone with Ableton. They say it may come in future updates so we will see. I have had it almost three months now and its still turns on like the first time. I have noticed some lagging in the DAW, which is undesirable. I have also experienced inaccuracy while recording beat loops, even with the quantization off. Overall its an amazing piece of equipment and I have never owned anything like this!

Product Review
So, I purchased the FORCE thinking I could use it with my Ableton workflow. Boy was I wrong. The FORCE, pretty much, has ZERO compatibility and ZERO support for any sort of Live integration. BTW, I'm not talking about the 'Ableton Link' functionality. That works fine but I was under the impression I would be able to work on and with my Ableton projects using the FORCE as a controller. That is SOOOO not the case. If you don't believe me, just do a search for yourself to see if you can find anything that would be useful to you with consideration to your workflows in Ableton. If something turns up, then awesome but if you finder little to nothing except for a handful of videos that are demos more than anything and have little practical value with regards to workflow stuff, then that might suggest that you should hold on to your money until you feel certain that there is sufficient information and support in the universe for using the FORCE w/ Ableton. I feel particularly stupid because I own a Push 2 but bought this thing thinking it would be some sort of improvement. Definitely not the case. The Push 2 is for Ableton, the Force is not.

It is an absolute beast of a machine. It can seamlessly be used as a tool to create high quality songs using nothing but the akai force, or can coexist with external gear like butter.
Midi connectivity is a breeze, and the 64 pad keyboard is the best. People without music theory knowledge can get down on this machine no problem. It has built in scale and chords so intuition is the only real factor on this machine
This thing is pretty dang cool, and ultra powerful. Expensive, but worth it as you don’t need much else.
Was nervous about dishing out so much money, but luckily AMS put me on a payment plan and had my force sent 2 days later. I was in awe at how easy AMS made it for me to acquire such awesome gear .

I’ve been in MPC land for about 20 years so I’m cool with that Os... I’ve been in Ableton for about 7 months and mmmmm... yeah. Getting there.
The Force mixes some principle features of the two : rad pads and sounds with triggerable sequential instances.
It also has onboard synths, a superb sample editor, deep effects and, well... WiFi.
Basically if you can’t make amazing material with this stand alone work of Art, that’s entirely on you.
So but it right now.

This groundbreaking device is so good, even Akai undersells it's attributes. The 4 synths alone, are worth the price of admission. I don't know of any other musical device or instrument, that can do what the Force does,at this price point. In my opinion,it is the best musical value on the market. Extremely powerful. One caveat; The learning curve is steep. If you don't know anything about side chain compression, filters, quantization, etc, this is not for you. The terminology alone, will take quite a while to comprehend. It is definitely a tool, and not a toy.

I like this unit a lot. It’s fun to use and try out ideas quick. It seems like it’s missing some stuff tho. I hear Ableton Live support is launching soon so that’s good. But theres no real song mode at the moment. I’m also unsure how to DJ with it if you want to change tempos. If you use a “static” set tempo no prob. But that’s a recipe for a boring set.
Anyway, most of these issue can hopefully be resolved with firmware updates soon. I hope...
Anyway, research the unit and figure out how you want to use it. I wish it had a phono/line input to connect a turntable for sampling like the MPC live. I’m not really into CV ins / out but I know they’ve grown in popularity in recent years.
It also doesn’t come with all the expansions the MPC live comes with. You can install them if you have them but for $1500 it seems like they would be included.
Anyway, at this point I don’t regret the purchase but I do expect more updates from Akai in the very near future.

I tend to get distracted from daws on my mac with other matters and this allows me to have another area to focus on the creative process. Learned in a day the basics and its relatively easy to use. Many tutorials on youtube can assist but from my experience with my mpc live, it wasnt difficult at all.

This is am Amazing one of a kind Unique Instrument. Basically its as if a MPC Live and a Ableton PUSH 2 had a baby then that baby would be the Akai Pro Force. Loving experimenting and using this Beast. Also love the sampling capabilities , effects , the Plug ins and the touch display screen. The workflow takes a little time to work your head around especially if you come from a strictly ableton live workflow. But after watching tutorials on both YouTube and Akai home page ,I'm starting to get the Hang of it. Some Parts is still like learning rocket science LOL but the results are defiantly worth it.

This is not a replacement for an MPC, at least not yet. There actually is a button for note repeat, they labeled it ARP, you can configure as note repeat as default, press and hold for regular note repeat or press quick to latch. Unfortunately you will have to go through the menu if you want to change time divisions. I'm really digging it overall, however I did pre-load all my kits and samples onto an SSD using an internal SATA connection before it arrived. In standalone mode I can't make it create a new folder from the GUI on the root drive, if I go into another folder it works fine. I have a Maschine Studio and Jam, and MPC Touch from back when it was 8 bills smdh. I was debating between this and a standalone MPC. Went this route because I'm normally in the lab and have the touch right there. The force is fun, however it's not quite there yet for production, can be dope live. I'll keep it around and see where it goes.

I own the Akai MPC X and Live as well as the Push 1&2, so I feel I can give a true comparison. The force as a standalone unit is great for those wanting to play live or just ditch the computer. But as a producer, I feel like it lacks what I am accustomed to, such as plugin au/vst. I have many of the Komplete Collectors edition etc., but can't use them unless I use the auto sample feature in the Akai MPC software and make a sampled instrument then transfer it to the force, to much work. When it becomes a hybrid such as the mpc x, then I will be a happy camper. The instruments, and sounds that come with the force are decent to good. The push 2 actually has more features that I wish were on the force. Such as note repeat you have to go into another menu window to bring up note repeat and the push has dedicated buttons. I can press the browse button on the mpc x or push2, but on the force I have to press menu then browser then browse to what I am looking for. A few more steps on the force.
