Many complain that the Blue Channel is too dull/flat/flabby. It isn't at all. It has its own character colored to the red channel and provides a full much more vintage style sound whoch the blue channel on the 6L6 versions lack. This makes this amplifier much more versatile and the winner amongst them all. The red channel is an absolute fire Breather and the green channel with some delay and reverb really shows this thing is a fender. Love it!

I own the OG 6L6 50 Watt Fender EVH 5150, in addition to having owned every single (including all peaveys) variant of the 5150.
The 5150 EL34 captures the more british extreme of the 5150 sound and manages to stay brutal and diverse. The concentric knobs were a great addition and the output balancing between channels helps even out channel switching.
The amp's features in a 50watt package should be more than enough for semi-pro and professional musicians playing club-sized gigs without pro sound, or just about any venue scale with proper sound (the amp also has a preamp out signal as well).
I got it with the matching cab and it's right up there with the OG 6L6 as my go-to amp. You won't regret it.

This amp is very straightforward and packs a ton of punch. I was looking for a big tone that cuts without having to scoop the mids to 0 and this head does just that. I get really good tones out of it too without having to crank the volume. I love this head. Would highly recommend it.

Bought this to replace my dead Laney, and it was the wisest decision I made. Clean channel is beautiful like a old school Fender amp, Blue channel is nice and thick, (I play death metal), and cuts through the mix easily, Red channel is balls to the wall high gain shred heaven. The effects loop handles all of my effects with ease. Killer amp with that EL34 chunk!

I purchase a EVH 50 watt 6L6 and it is awesome. So I decided to buy the EL34 version. I heard that the blue channel sounds "Muddy", but I purchased it anyway. It sounds just as good or even better than the 6L6. I tried my first guitar with the Seymour Duncan Slash Alnico II pickups. It did sound like it has a lot of bass, but it was clear not muddy. But then I tried my another guitar with the Seymour Duncan JB's in it and it sounds amazing!! So if you think it is too "Muddy", then try a different pickups.

Got the 6L6 5150 Black Stealth last fall...it is incredible but there was something about this EL34 after watching several demos and deciding it needed to be home with its 6L6 Brother.
The EL34 cleans are crystal like and pristine! Channel 2 has that grit, warmth, clarity yet buttery rock goodness! Channel 3 is excellent to round out and take the lead. This amp has been great in inspiration, performance and recording.
It was more than I hoped for even with the positive reviews and demos. It is easy to dial in a sweet tone. In fact, I have done so blindly and it just makes each note resonate and stand out. I have it running through a JCM 1960 A cab. Together, they RAWK!
Another awesome thing about this amp is the headphone jack for late night practice and you can get sweet tones without shaking the house unlike other amps of this nature.
It is a must!

This amp is INSANE! The best amp i own now. Seriously defies what you may know as amplification. Completely does ANY style you are looking for. Not muddy., just great gain goodness on blue., sparkling clean on green., and raunchy on red, That red channel is a true lead channel, play a solo and you hear the notes jump out of the amp. Brilliant amplifier, and my absolute number 1 from now on.

The amp sounds amazing. El34s provide a bit of a British rock sound. Blue channel is muddy but I kind of like it that way. Great for metal, blues and the clean times are crisp and ambient. AMS was very fair on the price and made the delivery with complete ease. Buy the amp. You won't be disappointed.

All the gain you will ever need..... and that’s just the blue channel!! Right out of the box, this amp just screams. EL34s give it the low end that is awesome for drop tuning and 7 string use. The red lead channel is an awesome lead channel and saturates well for some of the best hard rock and metal tones I’ve ever heard! I probably just ended my 20 year search for the perfect amp when I bought this EVH!

The EVH 5150 III EL34 head is as good as it gets. This head has power and sound. It packs a powerful punch for only 50 watts. The gain is as good as it gets. On a scale of 1-10, this amp is 5150. I love the versatility of this amp. I highly recommend!!!

This amp is perfect for everyone. If you can't dial in a tone you like with this one, you aren't cut out for the guitar. No pedals needed except get you a Fortin Zuul and run it in the loop and you are set for the heaviest metal you can conjure.

Fantastic piece of gear, with outstanding service across the board. I did the 12mo payment plan which was very easy to use. No signing up for “gear cards” or special credit cards, I could use my current card issues from the bank. Package arrived in 2 days, packed very well. Everything worked correctly out of the box. A follow up email with a tracking number was sent moments after purchase and after the package arrived another email was sent with future payments dates clearly stated.
Great company with a killer, easy to use website.

All tube, EL34 tubes. Nice saturation and gain structure. Great for rock, and excellent for metal. This has a ton of gain and a great responsive EQ. I had all 3 of the previous heads(5150, 5150 II 6L6, and now this head) 50 watts is best when playing live you can crank it up to get the tubes nice and toasty before the sound man tells you to turn down. Reliable so far, play this 3x a week for 4 hrs each time and weekends another 8 hrs. 3 channels, clean, normal and lead. Comes with a nice footswitch as well. Has a preamp out so you can link up with a bigger amp (if needed but why???) also has a headphone jack for pissy neighbors!

The best sounding amp I've ever played through.
I have all four 5150 models as well as the 3 Peavey 65 series models and this one takes the cake.
With being said I think they have a wiring issue.
I bought the 100-watt model first and it just stopped working on me all together within a month. Great warranty help, however.
bought the 50 watts for the home studio and at about 10 hours in started popping fuses. So had to send it into warranty as well.

As a lifelong Marshall user, I love British style EL34 guitar amps. They have a soul about them that their 6L6 American cousins simply don't have. Enter the EVH 5150III EL34. With gain to spare, this thing can crunch, roar, or scream. Oh yeah, it cleans up nicely too, with a full-bodied sparkle that you wouldn't expect from an EL34 amp.
Channel 1, the clean channel, sounds absolutely great for funk rhythm and gives you nice single note articulation too. Channel 2 can shake the walls like a good EL34 amp can with either power chords or single note riffs. Then there's channel 3. With more gain than you'll probably ever need, it roars and screams with nearly endless sustain. Throw an echo pedal in the excellent effects loop, and your solos will sound heavenly. Sure, you could spend a lot more on a Friedman, Orange, or Marshall, but you are likely not to get hundreds more worth of performance. This amp is an absolute bargain for the price and surprisingly versatile. Highly recommended!

Im a studio producer out of Nashville Tn and I bought this little "BAD BOY" about 8 months ago from AMS after playing one on a pop up gig I filled in for and its the only amp I use in my studio now...From Metal to Pop to Rap to Country this little EVH EL34 50watt is a monster... and gets any tone you want with tons of room to spare... I have heard everything from a Gretch to a Fender strat to a Gibson LP to Jackson and Dean and so many other guitars play though this head and every time this amp preforms like the champ it is... Best investment in a head I have ever made ..Thank you AMS

This thing is as advertised. A gain monster. I own Mesa, Orange, and Engl products and the 5150’s red channel reaches their gain level with plenty left in the tank. Green and blue channels are extremely versatile. Overall its a well laid out amp and easy to dial in. If you are on the fence jump off and buy this

With a history of great products from EVH, I was excited when I ordered this amp, despite reading a handful of negative reviews, particularly in regards to the blue channel. Unfortunately, they turned out to be accurate. The blue channel features a dark, muddy sound that just can’t be dialed out. The clean and red channels sound great, but for the money, I just couldn’t overlook the poor sound of the blue channel. I ended up ordering the 6L6 version and was immediately pleased with the tone and versatility of all 3 channels. The punch, response, and clarity are superior as well, IMO.

Received this last Wednesday, paired it with a Randal 2x12 cabinet with eminence legend speakers, I’m able to achieve alot of different tones from this head, and yes the brown sound is there as well. Great cleans from the green channel, put some reverb with a little compression and I can get very close to a fender clean, the Blue channel is my favorite, work the gain and you go from blues tones to classic hard rock, and the Red channel is off the chart gain no distortion box needed! Being a Marshall user since the 70’s I like the sound of an el34 amp. So far so good with this amp, I can’t say anything about reliability yet, to early to tell. Evh has a winner here!

Excellent 3 channel amp. Independent volume & gain for each channel. Channel 2 has the perfect VH brown sound. The only thing that could make this amp better is reverb. Otherwise it's fantastic. I play in a Van Halen tribute band and this amp has proven to be a very wise purchase. Turns out it's also versatile enough to use with roots rock band. Worth it!

I bought the 50-watt 6L6 head when it first came out. The new EL34 did not disappoint. Tighter than the original, not quite as “gainey”. The flexibility of independent volume control for all three channels is a big plus. To put it simply, I sold my Mesa, my original block-letter 5150, and I’m selling my Suhr modified Marshall because all I need are my two EVH heads. I can go from country to metal in an instant (and changing guitars). Do yourself a favor and try one...you will be glad you did!
