I worked with these nearly 4 months before submitting this review. Firstly, right out of the box they will sound a bit thin and not very loud. Don't worry because after they operate for a couple of weeks they begin to break in. I knew this would happen so I wasn't concerned. What I wasn't prepared to expect was the massive increase in dynamic range and total volume output that came after about 4 weeks. Pretty impressive. The sound is smooth so that at higher levels it's easy to forget you're listening that loud.
The image field is as most people say, fairly wide and forgiving to head position. That being said, they still sound best when properly positioned.
I run mine with the bass rolloff set to flat, and the high rolloff rolled off. They do have a bit of a boxy sound in the 200-240 hz area that jumps out at certain listening levels, which I EQed out by about -1.5dB.
Mine are crossed-over at 80hz with an ElectroVoice DeltaMax 18" sub handling the lows. Soundcraft mixer.

These blow any 5 inch monitors away!They have the absolute best low end, of any 5" monitors , on the market. The imaging is excellent! I wish they made these in 6", also. I also own the sub, so it really makes the mixes pristine, on the lows, as well as the highs!

These monitors exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. The sound quality is amazing for a monitor of this size and in this price range. My studio is small... Only 140 sq ft or so. These monitors fill the room from every angle. The clarity, even at higher volumes in well beyond what a monitor in this range should deliver. If you're considering a set of these, you will not be disappointed.

Just hooked up a pair of these gems, WOW! Everything you have read and seen in video reviews is true - these things are top notch! I'm blown away how good they sound on my desk. I'm listening to music from 20+ years ago and there are sounds I've never heard before. Great job JBL! After receiving a pair of speakers from a competing company who's product was inferior, I returned their speakers to AMS in exchange for the LSR305 pair from JBL. My choice for replacement was based on past performance of JBL products I have owned and without hearing them. You don't have to question the quality of any product made by this company. If I were to purchase again, I wouldn't have any doubts or have to think twice.

These are some nice sounding small studio monitors. I have them in a corner next to a wall which is not a very good spot in the room but as my studio is also my bedroom (which is also pretty small), I don't have much choice in where I can put them. The greatest thing about the speakers is the sweet spot is huge. Something in the middle really sounds like it's in the middle even if you're quite a distance from the center. They have OK bass, great mids and decent highs, the perfect combination for most editing and mixing chores. I had Equators before this and these are better for less money too.

1st of all, I did not expect the monitors to be the size that they are: 9 inches deep; 1 foot high + 7.5 inches across. I only needed and expect something much smaller, so it was quite a surprise for starters before I even opened the box.
These were intended for a small room. They're kind of big for the money AND they're by JBL. Again these are studio monitors intended for professional use, not speakers designed for a home stereo. I say this only because elsewhere outside of AMS a 'music store' "professional"really did not know the difference.
The Starter Kit that comes with these speakers is an incredible bargain and a wise buying decision if you are just hooking up your studio. Everything you need to go from your board to the monitors is there as long as 6 foot TRP to XLR cables are not long enough.
As long as you know what I just said, you're in luck. You're crazy if you're looking for quality & don't buy this.

I got the Focusrite Scarlett Solo as a birthday gift along w/key items to get my home studio running however I was missing one component, a great pair of monitors. After researching, my top three choices inc. these, the KRK Rokit 5 & the Mackie MR5 MK3. I heard many good things about the others but specs, aesthetics and just overall value won me over. Not to mention another competitor (who uses a breed of dog for their namesake) had a **** for a sales rep named Ken who couldn't keep his integrity in check to save his life while AMS offered a sweet bundle w/the SM Pro Nano Patch for the same price as the competitor!! That was a no brainer..Shipment was very quick and I had a technical hiccup (these monitors only have TRS/XLR inputs, the interface has RCA outputs and I got the wrong adapter from a third party), but thankfully I have Amazon Prime Now in my area and just got it same day. Needless to say, five reference tracks in, all the reviews were spot on..I'm in love with my monitors!

So late last year I was in need of some new monitors. Two local music store reps suggested the JBL 3 series, however I was so infatuated with the Adam A7X monitors that I had to have a pair of Adam monitors. I bought a pair of Adam F7 monitors. Fast forward to April 2015 and I'm setting up a second "grunge" set up with an old laptop, a used Presonus audiobox and I needed some monitors....the JBL's were the first to come to mind. Trust me when I tell you that they are excellent in so many ways. I hate to admit it, but I like them than the Adam F7 monitors when producing & mixing. The clarity is unbelievable. They both are great monitors, but when you hear people say that the JBLs have a flat response and sound very clear...they aren't lying. So if you're wondering if they can hold their own with the "big boys" the answer is YES! If you're on a budget but want great sound get the JBLs & you won't regret it.

I'm setting up a new project studio for myself and I wanted some near-fields to compliment the Yamaha NS-1000's I bought (3-way midfield). I have the JBL's connected to a SPL Crimson interface and resting on the SM Audio monitor pads included with the bonus pack.
The monitors are pretty straight forward with two freq cut/boost switches (HF & LF) and a switch for the input sensitivity (+4/-10). The switches are very fragile feeling and in fact one of the freq switches was broken off on mine when I received it.
Out of the box the LSR305's sounded surprisingly bass heavy...too much so. Lots of low-end energy but not much clarity. I let them break in with a couple of weeks of casual listening and then engaged the 2db cut on the LF switch. The difference was surprising! Instead of the mass of low-end energy I was getting used to on Get Lucky (for instance) I was able to hear a distinct bass guitar - this also opened up the mid-range bringing additional clarity.

I purchased the jbl 305's for portable usage. The size of the monitors are perfect for mobile applications. But don't let thier compact size fool you. These puppies pack a powerful punch!
Though they are a bit base heavy the sound is clear and concise. It also helps that they come equipped with a built-in crossover. I also love that this package comes with wires and a control knob. Thumbs up AMS.

A very impressive set of near field monitors! The starter kit makes a very nice addition too. JBL has done an amazing job with these. I ha these now for nearly 2 months, and they're setting on top of my Alesis monitors that I've been using for the last 10+ years, also purchased from AMS. I have also purchased a SM Pro audio M-patch 2, so that I can switch between and control both sets of monitors during this session.
Admittedly, there were a few small issues I wasn't crazy about at first… I'm not a big fan of having the bass port on the back, and the first time I turned these on I was unaware that it takes them about seven or so seconds before they actually turn on. Also, the power scheme didn't make a lot of sense to me. My Alesis monitors are 100 W each, 75 W to the lows, & 25 to the highs. To me, that makes sense. So while doing research, the JBL's threw me a little.
But the bottom line, and what really matters, is the sound they produce which is fantastic!
Look no further, you've just found the best sounding, low-budget, near field monitors on the market!

this is an excellent deal for the pair w/ the starter pack…best i found, and believe me i looked extensively. the starter pack is a great bonus, especially for the high quality (4) xlr/trs cables and the junction/patch interface module.
of course, the monitors have been reviewed widely, with, i believe, justifiable appreciation.
i would only add that, in my particular situation, i've found that positioning the speakers horizontally, in mirrored symmetry, provides an excellent balance of highs/lows.

Your general opinion of this product.
I have been tracking and mixing on JBL LSR28P monitors since 1999. I'm still very happy with them, but because of the positive reviews this product has been receiving I wanted to give them a try. Despite the reviews my intention was to remain objective about build-quality and performance.
The JBL LSR305's are constructed of MDF, or similar, and the speaker mounting surrounds are plastic, as are the tweeter waveguides. Despite the plastic these monitors are built better than I had expected. I could find no imperfections in any of the parts or paint. The electronic components are solid, so there is no cheap or sloppy feel to them.
The installation and setup of the LSR305's was simple. Since my LSR28P's are rear-ported, as well, wall distance from my desk is about three feet, so no low-end roll-off was needed. There is essentially no learning curve with this product.
Wide stereo image, detailed, and as sonically flat as can be expected in a package this inexpensive.
This is where the LSR305's show their mettle. Compared to my monitors that cost well over a thousand dollars more (albeit many years ago) they have quite a detailed sound stage and a surprisingly wide stereo image. The low and hi-mids are detailed and smooth, with no strident HF. I'm very pleased with these little monitors. Kudos to JBL for bringing to market a product of this quality at such a reasonable price-point.
