Product Review
The strings themselves are just fine. But the packaging....is just horrible. I expect WAY BETTER from Martin. Even if you buy some cheap generic strings that noone has heard of, it is normal practice to put ONE string inside ONE envelope looking packet...with 6 individually packaged strings in the set. I almost feel stupid explaining this.....no matter what guitar you play or what strings you prefer, you all know what I am talking about here. But THESE strings come 2 per packet, so you take one string out and the other one unravels. Martin, do you REALLY save money packing them this way??? REALLY????? I realize it is the STRINGS and not the package that really matters but it was inconvenient and a hassle to be fumbling with a string I was not even working on yet in order to get to the string I was putting on the guitar. Martin should do themselves a HUGE favor and package your strings the way EVERY OTHER STRING MFR DOES.

I shifted between brands since the 70's. About 8 years ago I decided to give these a try on my strats. For $2 a set I couldn't go wrong. I found they sound as good as any, but best of all they last and last and last. I've never looked back. If you would rather play than change your strings then look no further.

I have been using these strings for around 15 years on my acoustics and haven't had any problems with them. They sound good, hold up well. Of course I change strings often for live performance, to avoid problems; no set of strings will last forever. After they have been on the guitar a while, even if they look and sound fine, they will loose their ability to intonate properly. I get compliments on the sound of my instruments often the time. Is it my instruments, my playing, the strings?

I have used Darco stings for over 35 years. They are the most consistant longest lasting stings I have ever used. They are also the best value for the money. Made by Martin. Everyone who I told about these strings become life long fans of Darco. For less than 3.00 a set, you can't go wrong.

I couldn't be more satisfied with any set of strings,Period.
I think they hold up quite well. I use stock vibrato's on my Strats. If you google Slacker G guitar videos you can see the Darco's in action. And they stay in tune without ANY locking hardware what so ever.
Your general opinion of this product.
I won't use any other strings no matter what the price. I have been using these for about 5 years now.
Nice and slinky for a 10 - 46 set. They remind me of the old Black Diamond string tone and feel from the 60's. I really liked those. But I'm keeping my Darcos.

My Turn
By: Jocko
Submitted: 1/26/2010
It did take a little longer to achieve a stable tuned guitar so there is a difference in quality between these strings and more expensive strings. Although with that said once I did have stable tuning on my guitar and locked down the nut it has been very stable since.
First set has only been on my Ibanez 770dx for a few days. Once the strings were stretched out and tuned they have maintained tuning stability.
Your general opinion of this product.
I received my monthly care package from AMS last week and for giggles and Ha Ha's I decided just to try the Ex Lights. I am a firm believer of ya get what ya pay for to a certain degree. So 34.00 for 10 packs is a great bargain; read on for more details. When I opened the box I have never seen in 30 years strings packaged like these strings. Only 3 paper packages per string box and two strings per paper package. Some will be cork sniffers and say only this or that brand will do; I am always looking to get that heavenly tone so I decided to purchase a 10 pack. I suggest the same to those reading this; its only a few bucks and well worth the try.
I have been playing guitar for almost 31 years now and there is no visible difference in the way these budget strings look like compared to more expensive strings. There is a slight difference in construction of these strings at the end of these string where they are attached to the small brass ring on each string; they do not have as many wraps as more expensive strings. In my situation I do not use that end of string due to the floating bridge on my guitar; thus this part is removed when stringing up my guitars
To my ears they sound close to another brand more expensive brand sold at AMS and other places. I am sure they would not want this revealed to the buying public but what I can suggest is this its less than 40.00 for 10 packs and little more than 3 for one pack. Purchase a few packs and try them. So far I am sold.
They are silver and some look shiny. Some people even buy painted strings; they sell them at AMS also and yet another box that needs to be filled.
I grabbed a box while watching a Denzil Washington movie; Man on Fire and it was a really good movie with loads of action. Well ya can't leave a box empty and I have to write something.

Top quality, well made and dependable year after year.
I actually get longer use from these strings than other brands costing three times the price.
Your general opinion of this product.
I was contacted in 1991 by a company distributor and asked to try these. I have used them on all my electrics values priced from $350.00 to over $5,000.00 and have bought them ever since. not to save a buck, but the action, durability and quality compares to or out performs all the higher priced name brands.
great
Wouldn't know as I have never painted or stained any of my guitar strings! (joking)
I use the extra light 9's because I do a lot of sustaining bends and the action is always smooth and reliable and does not lose tone during repeated performances.

Tone was ok.

Best Kept Secret in String!
By: Cos from
Submitted: 8/20/2008
These are outstanding strings!
Very Well
The are very well balanced from string to string. I was buying the "house braned" from another online retailer and they switched thier supplier and the I sware their old ones were supplied by Darco. I have been playing 20+ years and go through strings like water do to playing hard and sweating and need a string that is affordable that I can change often. There are so awesome. I would rather play these than any other brand!
Tone is awesome from right out of the box great tone that lasts and stays pretty much the same. I can swap out a fresh set in the middle of recording a track and know that there will not be this huge tonal contrast. These have great sound thier entire long life. I hope CF Martin continues to make these the same way with the same materials. They just work great for me. Also AMS gets them to my door in 1-2 days!!! I'm ordering more to stock up.
The feel great not stiff and not too slinky either. Just the right amount of snap in both standard tuning and Eb.

My workingman's choice. Buy by the dozen!
By: AMS Customer from USA
Submitted: 2/5/2008
Your general opinion of this product.
QUALITY:
Quality is the 2nd coolest thing about this product. The quality of the Darcos is on par with more well-known brands. I can think of 3 famous brands of strings (all with a person's name), and you all know who they are. This product is as good as - or better than - all of them.
FEATURES:
The packaging is the fourth coolest thing about this product. Each set comes boxed, each box contains 3 paper envelopes instead of 6 for reduced waste. Another famous brand uses no paper at all, but the package is not reuseable - it's hard to keep partial sets. The Darcos represent the best comprimise.
EASE OF USE:
The 3rd coolest thing about the Darcos is the way the two strings are coiled up together in the envelope. They are not twisted together so there's no tangles or unwinding. Just slide them out of the envelope and they fall straight, apart, unwound, untangled, and ready to install.
VALUE:
The VALUE is the NUMBER ON

EASE OF USE:
