For a $300 bass, this thing sounds premium. Not to mention it looks great. Very well crafted and the sound is rich. Mine already came tuned so I didn't need to play around with the pegs too much. Overall, if you're on a budget looking for a bass that can give you more than average, this is the one to get.

This bass is the definition of bang for your buck.
If you’re thinking about it, don’t, just pull the trigger, you won’t be sorry.. sounds great as is, but you always slap a Seymour Duncan in this bad boy just to lick it up a notch.

My wife and I bought this instrument for my sons 20th birthday. I have very little experience with Sterling but have heard some great things. I am so glad that we bought this bass. My son LOVES this instrument and sounds so great with it. It has been an awesome experience to buy through AMS as well. We chose the 4 payment option which has been a blessing as my family has 2 birthdays during December and money is usually very tight in December. The payment option allowed us to spread out the bill without having to file for a credit card. I have been very pleased overall with my experience and definitely plan on using AMS again.

Better then a Yamaha or cheap Squire. Better then my old Dean bass. This bass could be breathing heavy on any major stage. I frickin lovvve this bass. I ordered the black Sub. It is beautiful. Very, very well made. I want another one just because it is such a great deal.the sound can be fat or springy. You know that crazy bouncy sound. I love that it is active. That pushes the boldness over the top. This is the best bass for your money. I would rather have this SUB then a Fender P.

I know people seems to love this bass but I really struggled getting a tone out of this that I liked. And one month into owning it the active electronics malfunctioned. In the middle of playing my level suddenly dropped, a loud buzz started to sound, and my tone knob stopped working. I returned it.

I've been a professional musician for more than four decades, I recently retired due to health reasons. I have purchased many instruments from AMS, and they have always served me well. When I decided to purchase the stingray bass I did so based on my experience with AMS and the good service polices. The instrument it turns was better than I expected. It came set up and needed no adjustments to the neck or tuning. The tones selection met every desired pitch and the classic starburst look is right on. Damn good bass for the price!! The sound and tone sustain is awesome. Playability is great love the narrow neck. I’m a smaller guy and this thing is super easy to play. I will buy another and probably one a step up from this one. Gonna have to go with bigger strings these ones aren’t that great for drop tuning. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good startup bass. It’s even a good bass for a seasoned player. I love it!!!

I got the black stingray. You can't go wrong with this bass at this price. It sounds good as is, but can always be upgraded to fit your needs. The only thing I had a problem with was the quality of the tuners, they kept rattling every time I played a note. I ended up upgrading them to Hipshot tuners as soon as I could; no more rattling, better tuning stability and sustain. I'll eventually upgrade the preamp and pickup, but for now I'm satisfied with it. Another thing is that this bass goes through batteries like crazy, even though I don't keep it plugged in when I'm not using it (in case the preamp stays activated, like pedals do). That's why a new preamp might be next.

I was looking for a new bass guitar and did quite a bit of research and review reading before deciding on Sterling SUB Stingray. I could not be happier with my decision.
The guitar was delivered very quickly, three days! And was in perfect condition. The guitar was set up perfectly. All I had to do was a little tuning.
Plays like a more expensive guitar.

I got this bass to have a cost friendly bass for me, and for my son to use as he learns. It really is a great deal for the money. The preamps on these have been improved quite a bit, and you can get a great variety of sounds from it. Bright and snappy, deep and rich, I can get all of those. The hardware isn't top of the line, but it works perfectly. Rarely goes out of tune. Many years ago, I had a pre-Ernie Ball StingRay... Does this one sound like the full fledged Ray? I couldn't tell you. But what I can tell you is that if you are looking for a well made, budget friendly bass with many tonal option, I don't think you can go wrong with the SUB Ray.

The Sterling by Music Man, Sting Ray, SUB series bass is a solid instrument both literally and figuratively. The body is heavy, producing great sustain and tone. The single humbucker pickup gets the job done in a professional manner without worrying about switching between pickup configurations. The built-in active pre-amp circuitry gives you an extra boost in volume and clarity compared to passive electronics. The 9-volt battery lasts for hours and hours of playing. There's a volume knob, plus treble and bass to adjust your tone without a hassle. The tuners and other hardware are dependable and attractive. This bass stays in tune no matter what style you play. The action comes set low and easy. Straight out of the box, my Sterling Sting Ray played like a much more expensive instrument. I consider this bass a professional model that is good for practice, recording or gigging. As a professional bassist, this is the most bass for the buck I've ever experienced!

The build quality of the instrument exceeded my expectations for a bass in this price range and is suitable for both beginners and seasoned players as well those who are looking for the Music Man Stingray sound.
The bridge is heavy-duty and very similar to the higher-priced Music Man basses. The tuning keys are good and hold a tuning but are just a little tight but that can be adjusted to your preference.
The pickup is decent but is not as smooth as I would like. It's okay if you play a lot of slap but that too can be tweaked by rolling back on the treble control. Strings will also have a big effect on the sound. The output is higher than a passive bass so some judicial use of the gain control is in order to prevent overload.
Now for the best part... the neck is thin and narrow very much like a Jazz Bass and has a satin finish on the back. it has great action and is easy to adjust with the wheel at the base of the neck.

It arrived on time, excellent setup. The only thing that stopped me from giving it the five star rating on the value of this bass is the volume knob. It's set up so that it's either really on...or by turning slightly it's totally off! Strangest thing. I've gigged with it twice now and everyone loves the smooth tone. It's simple enough to adjust to the volume thing.
