EMG 81-X Active Humbucker Pickups

The EMG 81-X provides increased headroom giving the voicing an organic and open tone while still maintaining the clarity and response that EMG’s are renowned for. Utilizing powerful ceramic magnets and close aperture coils and powered by a newly designed preamp, the 81-X shines with detailed intensity, incredible amounts of high end cut and fluid sustain. Traditionally used in the bridge position, this pickup will make your leads slice right through even the densest mix like a hot knife. When used in both positions the sound can only be described as blistering. Other recommended pairings include the 85-X and the versatile 81-X/60-X combo. Give it a try and experience why the “X” factor is exciting players all around the world.

Package Includes: EMG's exclusive Solderless Install System (Patent pending); split shaft volume/active tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, screws & springs.

Quality: i really do like there sauterless system, it takes most of the severe work out of installation. Yet, in the installation of my own emgs for my guitar, the routing to the output jack was too small. My guitar's fault, but ya know, every guitar is made differently. and sautering the output was no big deal.

Overall: well, i do have to say, it is an amazing pickup. very hot but still a little passive sounding, so you get a really nice even tone out of it. it's not overpowering, i love the fact that, for a bridge pickup, it's not too twangy. It's a really even sounding pickup,
Playability and Feel: it's really versatile, you can push it soo much, and it still holds up to the clarity.
Tone: for it being really even, you do get your metal out of it. I'm the type of player that plays just about every genre, but the way this is made to be played is for screaming tone. Just the way i like it. Same though, i have a love for clean and soft, and by clean this pickup produces clean and clear. most of all it takes the mud out of metal.

Overall: It is an excellent pick up for ANY styke of music. But I dont recommend it for a guitar with a five way toggle. I tryed putting this pickup in an ibanez rg model and ended up having to install a 3 way toggle. Which means i had to drill out the toggle.
Playability and Feel:
Tone: The pick up has plenty of head room. Use it for any thing
