    Product Description

The SG Special 2016 T offers all the quality and performance that has made the guitar so popular with hard-gigging guitarists since its introduction in 1983, with crucial updates that ally it to many legendary Gibson guitars. Wrap your hand around the unique thin-to-thick neck carve with a profile that starts out slim at the lower frets and becomes increasingly chunky as you slide toward the joint. In the tone department, it carries the mini humbuckers for great, vintage-edged tones with plenty of contemporary versatility.

Gibson SG Special 2016 T Guitar Features

    • Mahogany body
    • Maple neck with unique thin-to-thick profile with volute
    • Mini humbuckers in the neck and bridge
    • Tune-o-matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece
    • Traditional tuners
Like the most revered vintage SGs, the Special 2016 T starts with a solid mahogany body. This classic tonewood offers superb depth and balance, and is extremely light for optimum playing comfort. Carved to the traditional asymmetrical double-cutaway shape, the SG also offers outstanding upper-fret access. Like many great Gibsons of the ’70s, the neck is made from maple and carved to a profile unique to the era, which measures .800” deep at the 1st fret and increases to .963” at the 12th, with a volute behind the nut to both strengthen the headstock joint and enhance neck resonance.

A rosewood fingerboard carries small block inlays, and terminates in a Graph Tech nut with a width of 1-11/16 inch. The SG Special 2016 T keeps it all down to basics—and saves you money—by omitting fingerboard binding.

To help the SG Special 2016 T rock with unparalleled character and articulation, Gibson USA loads it with mini humbuckers. These pickups are calibrated for balanced output between the neck and bridge positions, yielding everything from singing bluesy neck tones to crunchy and wailing leads, and are dressed in solid chrome covers. They are routed through the traditional four-knob and three-way switch wiring set up, and partnered with a Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for optimum sustain and precise intonation. A set of traditional tuners rounds out the package.

What is your opinion of this product?
This is an excellent SG for the money, I have owned it for 2 months now and got it when it was on sale for $699.99. It has excellent tone and is as the name implies a very solid guitar. If you are wondering on the quality of this versus an Epiphone lets say, it is at least in my opinion a bit better then its Epiphone sister. The wiring is cleaner, the pots are better, the neck feels better etc. One big gripe I have always had about the Epiphone G400/pro is the neck easily bends much like a tremolo system. Let me tell you this Gibson does not suffer from that problem. I would also like to add that the beveling of the body contour is deeper and much more refined than on the Epiphone as well. If you really want a real USA made SG for what is comparable to an Epiphone artist signature model in price Look no further. I have had no problems right out of the case other than having to dial in the setup to my liking and fixing the intonation. Those issues are to be expected with every guitar.

What is your opinion of this product?
I review guitars online and revuewed the 2016 Gibson line when they first came out. I was soooo impressed with this model and really felt it was the best release for SGs. 6 months went by and I finally went ahead and picked one up. I got mine in Satin black which will be the rare, desirable one. The fit, feel, and finish are all perfect on mine.

    Pretty good.
What is your opinion of this product?
I can't speak for all of these SG's, but some small things were left unfinished. The faying surface of the neck and fretboard has a mall amount of squeeze out that wasn't smoothed down where my thumb goes down most of the neck. Also, the volume pot for my bridge pickup has already went out. Everything else is pretty dialed in though.

Excellent replacement to my first Gibson SG I owned
What is your opinion of this product?
I love it to death. The first Gibson I ever owned was an original '73 Gibson SG Deluxe with mini humbuckers like this one but with Grover tuners, black hardware and dot inlays. I got that one in 2011 the year before they reissued the '70s tribute SG Special with min hums in 2012. I missed out on that chance and have regretted ever since on not buying it and selling my original '73.Anyways I bought this one around New Years Eve to replace that one and to try a '70's Tribute SG. It is a very close replica of my '73 SG Deluxe I owned except for the Maple neck on this one and the Fret inlays (The original '73 SG Special had a Mahogany neck and body, rosewood fretboard and dot inlays.) Lastly on the sound compared to my first SG Special is that this one has more bite, crunch and growl and the pickups have more output than the original early to mid 70's SG Special with mini hums. Anyways its a winner and I gave it a five star rating because of that. Thanks AMS for a fine product.
