Like the greatest SGs ever made, the SG Standard P90 starts with a foundation of solid mahogany, a tonewood with a long tradition at Gibson. A solid mahogany body is crafted in the distinctive, thin asymmetrical dual-cutaway style, with iconic pointed “horns” and beveled edges to enhance playing comfort. A solid, quarter-sawn mahogany neck is glued into the body in Gibson’s time-tested tradition, and carved to a fast, slim ’60s profile that measures .800” at the 1st fret and .875” at the 12th. It is topped with a bound fingerboard made from genuine rosewood with 22 medium-jumbo frets, and traditional trapezoid inlays. The smaller vintage-style headstock has the classic mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and holly inlays.
To take it all into raw and rugged sonic territory, Gibson USA equips the SG Standard P90 with a pair of the authentic P-90 single-coil pickups that help to give this guitar its name. Made just like the originals that were introduced by Gibson way back in 1946—and have been favorites ever since—each of these pickups carries a pair of Alnico V bar magnets and is wound with 42 AWG wire for a tone that is meaty and thick, yet clear and articulate, with that characteristic P-90 edge and bite. Your tone is anchored by the classic pairing of a Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, with a set of traditional tuners installed at the other side of the Graph Tech nut. Put it all together, and the SG Standard With P-90s is a smoking slab of vintage mojo.
