| Initial quality is impressive. Attractive metal enclosure, separate power supply, quality shock mount, and large case all are well made and seem durable. |

| You might use this mic for a number of applications successfully. If you are wondering if this is a good vocal mic, it's a great vocal mic. It has a nice high end that isn't exaggerated, its very quiet (self noise) and it makes most performances sound just a bit better than a perfectly flat microphone like a 414 or similar condenser. I'm not sure if its the response curve or the tube but it has a slight something that I think is flattering to my voice and to other singers I've recorded. It works well for subtle singers but you can scream at this thing and it won't distort. It colors vocals less than my Neumann stand-in, my Soundeluxe ifet7, which I like better for some applications. It has a gold stud to show you the front address side and a very usable omni mode. If you were looking for one microphone sub $1K to serve as your primary vocal mic for your studio I would put this on the short list. Also works well on acoustic guitar and hand percussion. |

| If you've used studio microphones before there's no additional learning curve. It does have a separate power supply with a proprietary cable which goes to the microphone. This is of high quality and it should be long enough to reach most control rooms or at least to a point where you can conveniently tie in a standard XLR off of the power supply to go to your board or AD converter. The pickup pattern is selected on the power supply rather than the microphone itself which is a little unique. |

| Clear, airy without seeming contrived, good low end pickup, high volume before distortion, pleasant bump around maybe 2K which maybe provides that "better" sound to vocals without being obvious. Great sounding mic with low self noise. |

| I'm very happy with this microphone. It's not the only Rode mic I own but it's the one that gets the most use by far. Some voices are better served by different microphones but the K2 always sounds good to me, and maybe that's the best advice I could offer: This mic will work for you and sound great. Are there other alternatives? Plenty! However, I think it sounds as good as microphones that cost a lot more (certain popular mics by Blue, AKG, Shure) although this is hugely subjective (and I have and use some of those other mics too!). So, at this price point, I would say you won't regret owning this microphone and you may find it will stay in the front of your cabinet for years to come. |
