Gretsch Lap Steel: Superb Gretsch Sound Despite Pitch Challenges

Product Review The Gretsch Lap Steel Guitar is ready to rock right out of the box. That superb true Gretsch tone reigns supreme during recording either direct or through a miked amp. However, getting Gretsch's latest lap steel guitar to reach or hold a perfect note can be a challenge. Strings three and four seem to be the best bet, at 12th fret or lower, to be close to pitch. I love the sound this gem radiates so much, I'm moved to try different strings and tunings. Adding a chorus or chamber effect seem to draw the desired note closer to perfection. I'm happy with this model despite the pitch challenges.

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
There were blemishes on the sparkle finish and on the white fretboard. Sloppy quality assurance from the company. The frets are slightly off in intonation above the 12th fret--a constant worry in hitting the right notes.

FEATURES:
The fretboard with its geometric designs is truly wonderful. You can find your notes with ease but beware above the 12th fret.

EASE OF USE:
Plays very well and the knobs are easily accessible.

VALUE:
With the fact that the fretboard is out of intonation and there is sloppy finish on the paint and fretboard, one tends to be very careful when handling this instrument. It is overpriced by about half.

SOUND:
Sound is super. Everytime I play it I get compliments on the tone. This alone is worth the hassles.

STYLE:
Country, Bluegrass, Rock, Blues, Folk

MUSIC EXPERIENCE:
Playing music for 46 years. Play most stringed instruments
