As a Hip-Hop Rap Artist with a deep voice, I’ve tried several microphones including my U87, and the TLM103 is by far the best microphone befitted for my deep vocals. After any recordings, I can actually hear my natural tone, not too high not too low, but perfectly balanced.

This is my second time around having one of these mics and it is definitely worth the investment! This thing is a workhorse! I do hip hop music and it's perfect for vocals. Out of the box it sounds like my raw recorded vocals have EQ on them which is crazy! But it also depends on who's recording because everyone's voice is different. With that being said, it's an expensive mic for someone on a tight budget but thanks to AMS wonderful payment plans anybody can afford one without breaking the bank all at once! Simply put, the Neumann TLM 103 is astounding!

I have purchased many microphones, but nothing like this Neumann TLM 103. It is perfect for my recording studio. What an awesome sound! It certainly brings out the voice in a song or voice over very well. It was a great buy.

This mic has become a staple in the recording process. Ive used it on not only vocals but acoustic guitar as well. It’s a real work horse. Ok, I didn’t spend thousands but I definitely made an investment in my art and myself. This mic has been a dream of mine and it’s versatility to giving clarity on vocals is everything I have wanted ! To be able to hear crisp vocals recorded to be able to perfect my recording voice for my own music and to use as a vocal mic to record my voice reading for Audible, I am in my happy place having made this purchase for where I am in my journey as a home recording artist.
Thank you American Musical Supply again, for making it possible for me to afford to buy my equipment over time ! Your customer service was also outstanding when I had a delivery issue with my Breedlove 12 string and you shipped out a new one right away. Neumann TLM103 was purchased for Christmas. It has awesome quality. The microphone noise is very low and is amazing at capturing just the voice. The sound records very clean and brings a bright tone. Voices on the deeper side are brought out extremely well. It works awesome with the Apollo X6 Interface. It has met every expectation I had of it. Every engineer should have this microphone in their collection.

If you go to certain sites that shall remain nameless, you would think this is the worst microphone of all time. I don’t get it and I never will. Was my first nice mic in 1999 and this mic continues to amaze me.
The lowest noise you will ever hear. Super dynamic. Sounds amazing. It needs the correct preamp (Rupert Neve Designs 511 or any of the portico line is a great place to start- they sell those here). It has a huge proximity effect so mic placement is paramount to good results. I think that’s why a lot of people don’t like this mic. It requires a little effort to find optimal placement.
If you hate this mic, you’re just a lazy engineer and that’s all there is to it. Find the sweet spot and it’s golden on more than it isn’t. U87ish sounds at a fraction of the price.
Fantastic on vocals of all flavors (hint- give the capsule some room!). Unbelievable as drum overheads and room on drums. Not my fav on acoustic guitars but certainly acceptable.
One thing I don’t hear mentioned enough about this mic is how it stacks! Among the best I have ever heard stacking guitar amps or backing or lead vocals.
Takes EQ phenomenally well.

Some people complain this mic is too harsh in the his. Its not. Your preamp is lacking. The really great mics will expose the flaws in your signal chain. Get a good preamp and you will love this mic.

I have been checking this mic out for a couple of years but was hesitant to make the jump because of the price. Luckily with the payment options available via AMS I finally got my dream mic. Coming from a 10 year old Rode mid range mic all I can say is WOW. I had to turn my pre-amp down because this baby pics up every thing and really lets my voice cut through the mix. I have at eleven microphones in the over $1000 price range. I can honestly say that three have not disappointed me: the MKH-416, the Blue Mouse, and the TLM-103. All of the others have sound quality that I would rate in the $300-500 price point to be honest. These three microphones have not disappointed.
Now, I do mostly vocal recording for elearning, videos and voiceover. That might be important for you to know. The TLM-103 is all I use in my vocal booth at this point, unless I'm doing a "commercial/ad" piece, then I use the Blue Mouse. The MKH-416 is my travel microphone. I know that sounds odd, but it gives me the best environmental isolation when in hotel rooms and needing to record.

Before this mic I owned a blue baby bottle and a bluebird SL and I can say in all honestly that it’s the best mic I have ever owned. I’ve never heard my voice so clear and with such presence over the instrumental before I even add any effects. I would highly recommend this mic and I would also recommend getting the Neumann EA4 shock mount to cut down on vibrations. Thanks AMS!

I guess it depends on your music style and mic needs but the TLM 103 really didn’t deliver the sound I was looking for. I make rnb/synth/electronic style music and I found that it just was too bright/almost metallic sounding and picked up a lot of minor details that I wish it hadn’t. I really wanted to like it because I have heard great things but it’s just not for me.

I sold my Neumann 103 for a cheaper mic thinking that would be a better option... I was wrong. I repurchased again because my blue baby bottle was giving me the results that my tlm103 once gave me. This mic is a gem. Handles the "Ssss" beautifully without a popper stopper however still use one. Don't compromise your awesome vocals for something cheaper. Buy it and don't look back. I did.

This mic has a lot more high end than others and a much brighter sound so it all depends on the sound you are trying to reach. Obviously you can add warmth to it but this mic is a great piece of equipment to have. Very high in clarity and great sound. Well worth the money.

I have one of the early TLM103s, I'm not sure if there has been any design changes over the years. It 's a decent mic, but I've had trouble finding a use for it. For certain voices it can really sound good though not mine. It has a large upper mid boost that makes it sound harsh and unnatural on most things. I recently did a shoot out between a AKG 414, TLM103, and a Rode K2 and NTK. I think the 414 came out on top and the 103 dead last. But you're experience may be different.

I own various mic's such as the AKG C 414 XLS, Shure KSM32, Sterling ST77/ST51, and the MXL V69 Tube Mogami Edition but the Neumann TLM103 blows them away. I have used it on male rap vocals, haven't used it on a female as of yet but if I get the same results this will be my go to mic.

As a novice musician/vocalist I was excited to receive this product! I read many reviews which were all super...thus, what prompted me to purchase the Neumann. I also purchased a Bose L1 Compact Line Array System to route the Neumann & my Casio 7600 WS keyboards but soon discovered I also needed a Mixer. Upon purchasing the Yamaha MG06 Mixer and 2 TRS Balanced 1/4 inch - 1/4 inch cables I was set to play and sing. The sound from the Neumann and the Bose as well as the Casio are phenominal! I received no interference or playback from the entire system and as far as the Neumann TLM 103 is concerned...well worth the money spent. I would definitively recommend the worthiness of this product.

I have so far only used this mic for one hour since I received it.
Truly amazing I got to say,i put it through my zoom r24 to check it out quickly.
I did not bother cutting my fans off and other noises in my room and I was blown away that I could not hear nothing but my guitar amp on clean settings and I was shining like a pro.
Cranked the distortion on my Ampeg Vl-503 recorded and the smoothest I have ever heard my self play on a recording.Like I said I have only used this for an hour and not used it on my DAW yet and really not trying to find sweet spots yet.I
For what I just used it for I am truly blown away.

If this were any other mic I would say you pay for what you get, but being that its Neumann you pay less for more, with this mic looks truly are deceiving. Though plain to look at, this mic has giving me me a finished product i can be proud to hear.
Plug in adjust the gain record..AWSOME
When i first recorded using this mic i was blown away,it's not too bassy in lows and its not harsh on the hi's, it gives you a warm clear sound.

Incredible quality, I have had mine for 5 years now and it has been put through a lot and it still works perfect.
The sound quality is absolutely incredible! There's only one downside, the shockmount doesn't come with it, I would advise buying the anniversary edition.
Sound is absolutely amazing. I use mine mainly on vocals and guitars, but it sounds great on percussion too!

The quality of the wooden box alone is price of admission. The sound this mic transmits is priceless...
The mic sounds great alone, but when I add a few Waves plug-ins to the mix... amazing. Pull back a little on the 1K... some SSL Compression, good to go.
Hooking it up to the RME was pretty easy. I only had trouble getting the wooden box out of the package.
Is like butter being slapped on a juicy Omaha Steak fresh off the grill. I am running the mic through a RME400.

This is my first neumann mic. I've had it for about a month now and have no complaints regarding quality and ruggedness.
Not much as far of features. I would say its ruggedness and great sound are the best features of this mic, otherwise is as simple as a mic can get
No polarity switches or bass roll off. Very simple to use and very easy to achieve a great sound just by switching mic positioning.
I've recorded a Martin acoustic guitar through the TLM103 and a ISA 428 preamp and got excellent results. Male vocals sound awesome too, being very full bodied and sitting nicely on the mix. I also recorded female voiceovers and found the mic to be a little too bright for a female, but when I applied a low pass filter the female vocals reacted very nicely to the filter being applied. I've also recorded some harmonica and found it to be alright, but preferred an SM57 for this application. Also, some mixed percussion sounds have been recorded with great success, including Tambourine, Triangle, Clave. The only thing is that the recording engineer must have a good room to record in, because the mic is so detailed and sensitive that even the most subtle room noise will be picked up.

The first mic i ever bought is the shure sm57.
I used for inst\vocals and it did a very good job. I recently bought the tlm103 and with just my mixers preamp and no compresser it sounded great rich and full. I compared it with the U87 just for fun and i really didn't hear a $1800 dollar difference.

The TLM103 just replaced the AKG414 as our workhorse. Although the 414 has multiple patterns, the classic Neumann mids are more valuable more often.

QUALITY:
this is a neumann, you expect a superb level of build quality, it is indeed well built. chassis is solid inside and out, all screws are well placed and tight. no sloppy solder or welds, precise on the inside and out. the mic has a really nice weight to it and the case it comes with is more than effective for transportation shocks.
FEATURES:
it really doesn't have any features, only one pattern, only one input level, only one eq signature. the mic looks and feels nice if that is considered a feature. i think the grill/housing is well designed and effective.
EASE OF USE:
it requires phantom power and a good load impedance from the signal chain. easiest type of condenser to set up.
VALUE:
i think it is overpriced, if this were a $500-$600 offering it would be more favorably looked upon by the recording community, but i think that the german heritage and name feel they deserve more money for the build quality and
