Product Review
If you’re keen on tones and going the solid state route look no further than the Jazz Chorus 40. It’s a legendary amp with so much to offer. 2x10 inch speakers for immersive and lush true stereo sound. 40 watts gets plenty loud for gigs and operates bedroom levels marvelously. Hearing the truest amplification of your guitar like nothing in its price range. Plus, an onboard dimensional chorus and vibrato so good you won’t need the pedals on your board. Effects loop with creating washy lush soundscapes. Very usable Reverb and updated Distortion. Dual inputs. Takes stereo pedals like the Boss DD20 like a dream. Did I mention this is the best pedal platform?! On top of that it is the most beautiful amp you’ll own. It screams vintage prestigious aesthetics. I know because I’ve stared at it every day. This amp is unlike anything else and once you hear it you’ll understand. Absolutely no regrets with this and you won’t have any either. Thanks to AMS I had it at my door in two days and an awesome payment plan! AMS has the best customer service period I only purchase my gear from them!

Cons: It sounds like a toy. 2x10” Roland speakers very close together. Does not throw sound or move enough air.
I would get the JC 120 instead.

This is the cleanest-sounding amp I have ever played through. In addition, the stereo capabilities are amazing. The onboard effects are gorgeous, with the exception of the distortion. It is only adequate. Volume is much more than expected, so this amp could be used in virtually any live performance situation. I have run many effects through the JC-40, and they all sound better than they ever did in any other amp. This is a unique product.

This amp is way better than I expected. It sounds rich and it’s full of character. It gets plenty loud and it takes pedals very well. I highly recommend this for anyone. I use it in my stereo wet/dry rig with an AC15 and it’s killer. I also use it by itself for a jazz/blues project and it’s perfect for that.

First of all , I love this amp.. I got it to replace my vintage 1980s JC120. Which has become noisy and crackly.. and the pots are all toasted ... anyway this was cheaper than the repairs and actually sounds a bit better. ( probably because it’s smaller) but this amp is actually clear and clean almost hifi sounds fantastic on a sss strat.. ( unlike a fender twin which has the reputation of being clear and clean but is actually just bright and shrill ) it’s a really good pedal platform ( I use tube preamps and all analog petals ( except digital delay)

Product Review
When you’ve been playing guitar for nearly 40 years you remember the more amazing amps on the market.
This is one of them.
I originally had a Roland Jazz Chorus amp when I first started playing guitar, over three decades ago.
It was amazing back then, but because I was more of a metal player, I decided on a different brand.
I think that was a mistake, because these amps are much more versatile than I previously realized.
Of course, it has a legendary clean sound.
If you have an effects board, you can convert this amp into playing any style of music.
The built-in chorus effect is simply the best in the world.
It’s a true working musician’s amp. It’s solid and versatile.

Product Review
I have owned several amps from a beginners Crate amp to a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and I have not been as pleased with the tone on any of them as much as I am impressed with the clean, clear, vibrant tone of my JC40. The vast majority of recent times, I have been using my Boss Katana 50 and think its a really great amp. I am using it now predominately to play my JamMan Looper through with great results. I have been thinking about upgrading to the JC40 for the past 2 years and finally pulled the trigger and so very glad I did. Everything from my Fender Strat, to my Eastman Jazz boxes to my newest purchase, an Eastman T185MX all have a new and dynamic voice. I play CLEAN, never owned a pedal and probably never will. The onboard reverb, vibrato and their renowned Chorus are more than enough to make me happy. The amp does have a sufficient enough distortion channel for my limited taste. Those really loving heavy distortion might disagree. I am a Jazz/Standards kind of guy and my JC40 rings all of my bells. I purchased this amp from AMS and was very please with my dealings with them. The amp was ordered on a Friday and was received the following Monday! I highly recommend the JC40 to anyone looking for a clean and very playable amp.

As a guitarist who formerly has been completely uninterested in solid state amps this has been a breath of fresh air. The clean tones that breathe out of this amp could purify the hearts of demons. The onboard vibrato and chorus effects are competently designed and the aesthetic and weight of the amp make it a mainstay in my live performance and recording.

Heavenly Cleans

Product Review
Ah, the Roland Jazz Chorus! Such a phenomenal amp, but do not mistake my enthusiasm for blindness for it does have its issues, although minor in hindsight.
The JC40 is the 40 watt version of its bigger 120 watt sibling but don’t let mere numbers fool you because this amp can be a beast. Not only does its clean tone not break up when pushed, you can boost the signal for a thick solid and heavenly clean tone that will make even the most aggressive of angels weep. The stereo effect is extremely swell and the 10inch speakers really hold their own with articulation and smoothness.
Effects on this thing are great as well and it does have an upgraded distortion but honestly I find that it is more suited for when you are just riffing around. I can actually go from jazz to metal with this thing with a tubed overdrive and this little guy handles it with no problem. And honestly, just playing this thing clean for hours brings me joy and that’s is a rareness I have ever come across in my life in my 16 years of playing.
This amp should be loud enough for small to medium gigs but if you are in a mic’d situation, any size gig is perfect especially with the proper tone dialed in and clean boosting to beef up this heavenly monster. Definitely worth every penny and you can’t beat a loud and beautiful sounding amp that is decently light weight. I would buy this thing over and over again.

I've had so many amps over the years that I finally went to amp simulations and multi effects. I bought this amp for that incredible clean chorus and also on the recommendation for use with multi effects. I cannot believe this amp! It sounds gorgeous and fills my office! It is plenty loud. I usually have it on 1-2 in my office and my multi effects sound absolutely incredible! If you love cleans, get one! If you use multi effects, get one! You will not be disappointed. This is my best amp purchase yet.

Product Review
Upside:
The Chorus is gorgeous, as I would expect. Both the Fixed Chorus and Custom Settings are glorious, as only a Jazz Chorus can be.
Downsides:
A. This is a bright amp. I saw this in reviews, but just did not get it. It is bright, Bright, BRIGHT... I have never used an amp with the Bass and Mid-range turned up higher than the Treble. But it is absolutely essential on this unit. I cannot stress enough how Bright this unit is. almost as if someone left the standard Treble ranges shelved and only put on a control for the Presence.
B. This amp is not really as loud as I was expecting. not a good fit for large stage work if used by itself. However, if I run out of the Stereo outputs and into the Power Amp in on my Peavey Stereo Chorus 212, it not only takes care of the volume issue, it helps with the Brightness.
C. Alas... there is no help for the Digital Reverb. it is so horrible that I will have to either send this unit back or invest in an outboard Spring Reverb unit. I cannot stress how absolutely wrong the Reverb on this unit is.

Game Changer

Product Review
I was a bit skeptical about getting a solid state amp at first as I’ve always had tube amps. I travel with a band a lot throughout the year and my Fender 4x10 was becoming a pain to transport everywhere. I wanted something lighter but that could also deliver the tone I desired. I looked at getting a smaller tube amp at first until I came across this amp. I did a lot of research online before purchasing and everywhere I looked the general consensus was that this amp is a game changer. I run my pedalboard through this amp and my sounds come alive just as much as a tube amp. The tone it delivers is smooth yet powerful. The onboard distortion sounds very much alive. The reverb, chorus and vibrato instantly adds a lush quality to the sound and are easy to use. I highly recommend this amp to anyone whether you’re on tour or just in your bedroom.

the jc40 comes off as a 1000$ amp. The tonal shapes available are vast. Thou it's not advertised as a singer song writer amp it very much is. The greatwat aspect of the amp is that it's voiced with 2 10inch speakers ,,,,one dry one wet,,,,setting of a very aural mix. It has four of the best effects onboard,,,,reverb chorus distortion and verbrato,,,,with speed and depth adjusments in chorus and verbrato. It the greatest amp for studio or small to mid gigs. It has a very clear overall tone excellent for adding effect pedals. In summation the best amp I ever played

Probably a great amp if you something specific in mind to use it for. In a home studio for example or to run certain effects. As for a gig amp --nah - not unless your going to run it through a PA - it's not going to keep up with a quiet drummer much less a pounder.

This amp is impressive to say the least, the reverb and chorus sound great. I am by nature a Fender tube guy because I like the tube reverb but Roland has got the reverb right in the amp. The chorus has that Roland classic sound that I really like. I was surprised to see that it is made in Japan and not China like so many other amps. My 15 yr old son loves this amp, with that said the headphone jack is a plus. This amp is a keeper.

I've had this amp for a little over a year and I truly love it! As a solid-state amp, it really shines in transparency as well as an optimal platform for pedals. And of course that "3D" chorus has to be heard to be believed! There's no pedal or digital effect that can compare to it.
I keep the EQ knobs at 12 O'clock which I find allows my guitar's native tone to come through with almost no discernible coloring. Very transparent.
I especially love the stereo options this thing comes with. Stereo ins, stereo line outs, and of course stereo returns on the effects loop (the out is mono). The ability to switch between series and parallel on the effects loop is great.
I find that the distortion is gritty and very useable. Put a booster or OD in front of it and you can get some pretty good tones. Obviously it's not going to be the same as tube distortion, but it's more than adequate for a rowdy club gig.
Guitars I use: Strat with EMG SA pu's, and Les Paul with EMG 81/85 pu's.

Product Review
I've wanted an ultra clean amp for quite some time and always kept coming back to the Jazz Chorus. It is everything as advertised and tried and tested for 40 years. I contemplated the JC-22 but glad I went with the JC-40 and it's larger speakers. This thing is great running clean and takes pedals beautiful like nothing else. I've seen endless reviews singing the amp's praises but also reference to the JC's "hiss". I use all Mogami platinum cables in my signal chain and have a well buffered studio; I do not hear any "hiss" from the amp. On higher volumes with the distortion engaged (and yes on this round of the JC the distortion is quite usable) one can start to hear the "hiss" but that is no different than any other distortion pedal or amp setting and in fact even less noticeable than on other amps. I'm very happy with my purchase and the service from American Musical as always was stellar.
