I purchased the 61 Gibson SG thinking it would be just ok but dang was I wrong. The guitar is flawless like every other guitar I purchased from AMS. The SG is so light compared to my Les Paul Standard but it growls with the best of them. It’s very comfortable to hold and play. I am very, very happy with the SG and will have this beauty the rest of my life. Once again, this SG is incredible and I am looking forward to my next purchase from AMS. AMS always ships fast and the axe always arrives well packed. I can’t be happier with the SG and as always I can’t be happier with the service provided by AMS! Can’t say enough about AMS and their plans make it affordable for anyone to own the axe of their dreams! Thank you AMS!

Awesome guitar. Both looks and playing. Nitro finish is gorgeous & flawless. Entire workmanship top notch. Endless tone capabilities and sweet sounds thru my Princeton reverb. Needed some setup, truss & action, after shipping cross country in the cold. Since I always do a go thru anyway, no biggie. Neck shape fits my hand and style wonderfully. Had been wanting the '61 RI for some time. Finally pulled the trigger when AMS had a little prez day incentive. Glad I did. As always, Adam G provided professional, friendly, fast service. Take advantage of his experience.

Infinitely playable, Stunning work of art, Must Have for any serious guitarist!

Product Review
This will be sought after decades from now. Has major pros and minor cons. Only real downside was the pickups were not up to the the average quality level. Too much midrange and no treble. I swapped the bridge with a seymour duncan pearly gates and rewired the cap, fixed.
Now to the good things which make this an axe I'll be playing a long time. The body is resonant, I raised the tailpiece studs 3/16ths, the body vibrates more than anything I've ever played. Tightened the truss rod 1/2 turn, the action from the 12th to the 22nd fret, the best I've ever played. Not just the action (you can get Asian metal axes for that) but the sound of the notes, the high notes on this have tone, unlike anything I've ever played. Usually above the 12th fret you start to lose some tone with low action. The tone on this actually improves. So if you like solos that climax in the high range, seriously, who doesn't, this is THE axe for you. This is why Angus and Santana played SGs.
Lastly, the wood and finish and workmanship is a work of art. I've long been a LP and strat player, but this feels like I'm playing a work of art. It looks incredible and speed runs and chord fingering are effortless.
Do not hesitate to get this axe. You won't get anywhere near this value at this price again. This is a stunning, infinitely playable axe! It's real deal.

Ordered this '61 Standard SG on a Sunday afternoon, it arrived Monday morning! How is that even possible??? Happy as could be with the service from AMS!!! Now, about the guitar: Had a fantastic SG in the early '70's that I let slip away. Bought a new one about 10 years ago, didn't like the feel, and overall it was 'meh' ( in other words, ok but not great). Now, this one, well, I took a chance, anticipating another mediocre guitar but wait... THIS IS HOW THEY USED TO BUILD THEM! To my amazement, it was flawless in every way. Finish had NO waves or ripples, no scratches or sand paper marks under the finish ( like a few other Gibsons I had lately), mirror like gloss, perfectly straight neck with rosewood board ( a tad dry, but some fretboard conditioner brought it instantly to life), impeccable fretwork, intonation was spot on. I simply changed the strings to my preferred brand, lowered the action a tad, and in a word: perfection! Very VERY pleased with the entire transaction: delivery, product, everything!.

I've been waiting a long time for one of these and now thanks to AMS I've got one in my lap every day.
It's everything I thought it would be and more.
The 61 pups do it with or without pedals. I mean you can play it on 11 with a lot of dirt or dial it back just a little to clean it up. It doesn't even neck dive on me but now that I think of it that may be why gibson included a nice strap.
I couldn't be happier.....thank you AMS for the only way I could afford it right now!

Scooped up this SG using AMS's Easy Pay feature. I honestly couldn't have gotten this axe without it. Great way to get Working Musicians nice gear faster than ever! This SG is Killer btw. So fast and Sleek. And the Neck Pickup just Sings. Haven't been able to put it down. Also, seems like Gibson got it right. The frets are so level on this guitar, that my action is so low! No Buzzing at all. Nicely polished frets, and who doesn't love fret Nibs am I right? No Neck Dive, and the Rosewood board is very nice and dark, almost looks like Ebony. I Highly recommend. Thanks Again AMS. You seriously ROCK!

My 61 Vintage issue SG (Solid-Body Guitar) hence the name simply put. Is no doubt the best of the best for playability and tones. It is my Go-To guitar for jamming and matches perfect to my Mesa amp head and EV12L 2x12 cab, it gives me the unbelievable tones so clean and pure sustain beyond what I imagined I could achieve, and even using a slide has unique creative voice from this guitar. The tuners keep the strings right where I adjust them,,,perfectly.

I have had one SG before and it was good but I never expected the 61 reissue to be so great. Fit and finish are amazing. The grain of the wood is well matched and gorgeous. The setup was good and after a new set of strings and a neck adjust it was ready to rock. The action is way low on mine and plays clear as a bell. Pickups are powerful and full of harmonics. The neck is perfect for my hands and playing it is a real joy. Balance is perfect and
the guitar feels like its broken in right out of the box.
Gibson really has improved a thousand percent on quality.

Very well made Gibson SG! Finish is flawless and is beautiful, definitely what you expect of a Gibson guitar with a lacquer finish. Very light guitar and is a joy to play. Neck is a ‘60s slim tapper (something I personnally like). At the heel it feels wide, though it is thinner than most which contributes to the wide feel. Guitar is very slightly neck heavy, though when using a leather strap it is hardly noticed. I really love how light this guitar is, could play this without the shoulder pain I get from Les Paul. Great guitar; wish I had bought one sooner!

Product Review
I am loving my new Gibson SG 61. I mean, it's a Gibson SG 61, it's a quality instrument. However, AMS just sends it to you from the factory. No setup, no nothing. But hey, if the guitar you want isn't available at Sweetwater, then it's worth it to buy it at AMS if you know how to work on your guitar and set it up well. If you aren't comfortable working on your guitar, either order from Sweetwater where they do a setup for you before sending it out, or bring your guitar to a local luthier to have it setup. QC was okay other than a few glue and alignment issues that were quick remedied.
All in all, yes get this guitar. Just know, like with every other guitar you buy, it needs to be setup and cleaned up a bit from the factory and warehouse.

The most amazing thing about this guitar is it just feels 'right' in your hands. Easy to play, sounds great! This guitar also has the most beautiful Cherry finish. As soon as I picked it up and started playing, with only a small adjustment for tuning, I knew I had found my favorite guitar. Pelham Blue SG Goodness

Product Review
Purchased here at AMS. Shipped same day. Arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I don't like the veneer mahogany on the cherry SGs so a Pelham Blue painted one works for me. Mine weighs in at 7 lbs 2 oz, not bad. The finish is really nice high gloss metallic and has an aged greenish tint. The ProBucker 2&3 pickups are very good indeed. Neck measures 7.77 ohm. Bridge is 8.45 ohm. Expect vintage creamy tone. These are the best Epi humbuckers I've heard. Better than the Alnico Pros. No need to upgrade electronics now with the CTS pots standard. Control cavity clean, hand wired, shielded backplate. This is my first Indian Laurel fretboard and I was leery but it feels very similar to Rosewood. The neck profile is feels like a medium D shape to me and is comfortable. I feel no stickiness from finish on neck. Fret edges are nicely dressed. The plastics are where I see a difference between a Gibson and an Epi. The knobs seem cheap and breakable and sit too high from the body. The pickguard has flashing on edges that was not sanded off properly. Factory strings are crap. Setup was off. Action way too high and poorly intonated. Five Star guitar after a set up with a good new strings. I rate it Four Stars as received.

I've had and have a few Epiphone SG's I've always liked them, and I decided I needed a Gibson SG and I'm very glad I did. Sounds great action is very good, stays in tune. It has a lot of bite when you push it and sliky smooth when you roll it back a little. My only gripe is knurling on the knobs would have been nice but overall just great.

Hardware seems a bit cheap, action set too high, fret board needed oiling, and frets needed some light fine steel wool work to smooth out. As you can tell I’m a bit Picky. Body is beautiful with a nice finish. After a little work and set up the ax was sweet with smooth playability. In the future I’m considering installing a bone nut. I do recommend buying this ax though. Again I’m very, very, very, picky.

The guitar is light and the sound is big. The neck feels great and the guitar sounds awesome acoustically which is a good indicator that it’s going to be great plugged in. I used it a few days after on a gig and the look on the bands face when I got it feeding back on a solo was priceless. I have a 335, a real 1968 Les Paul Custom and Les Paul Junior, This is a great addition!
