Product Review I was debating getting a 2x12 or a 4x12 with a head. I wanted a Marshall DSL style amplifier but all the lower one and 20 W amplifiers did not have all the channels that I wanted so I figured I would need the 100 watt head until I saw this. This combo has all the features of the 100watt head but in a 40 watt combo. I am very pleased with this purchase - it gets loud enough for practicing with a drum set, but also sounds great on quiet volumes. So many different tones and options in this amp you can tinker with it for days. It is also a beast of a pedal platform because the clean channel is very solid and responds to pedals well. No issues at all, it is working flawlessly and sounds like an updated JCM2000 style amp - it’s perfect.

Product Review A nice Amp, plenty loud with decent tones. Only one thing I don't like is the Reverb, it's almost nonexistent, can hardly tell any difference in the tones when in use. Besides that, I like it.

Product Review This amp probably doesn’t need a review as it’s unlikely you’ve never played one, but this thing is as close to a stack as you’ll ever get out of a combo. Excellent features like true master volume, and genuine Marshall tone from the actual EL34 power section (not 84s like in a lot of combos) make this amp stand out for me. From bedroom volume to cranked in a studio with a mic in front of it, this amp will compete with and outshine amps several times the price. Very worth it, regardless of application.

Product Review The overdrive on it is ok when cranked, or else it’s not great. I’ve owned it for a long time and the secret to lower volume gain is boosting it. Get a boost pedal and sim it w volume, you can keep the Marshall on edge of breakup, and the actual volume low. Then use a boost, like 12 db or more.. use the option five destination bump boost, and it’s great.

Product Review This is my second one. I had to sell my other one due to a move overseas. I replaced the Celestion V Type for a Vintage 30 in my first one and it was great. As soon as I moved to Puerto Rico and got settled in I knew I had to get another one. I took advantage of a Black Friday sale and ordered it from AMS. They had it to me in under a week. My musical tastes have changed so I decided to drop a Celestion Heritage G12-65 in it and it just brought the amp to life! Full lows with a defined top end without the harshness of the Vintage 30. Nice full mids. It was a match made in heaven! This amp is perfect for bedroom playing all the way to gigs. The reverb is not a Fender reverb but it’ll do. I use pedals for that anyways. Did I mention it plays wonderful with pedals and you can bypass the effects loop? It also comes stock with JJ tubes which is what I use in all of my amps! It is in my opinion the best sub $1k amp out there. The cleans are great and it will also chug. MIDI built in, what more can you ask for? The stock speaker is good, I just think the other ones I threw in were better. Of course that would raise the price of this already wonderful amp. Just go get one!

Product Review I wanted to give it the maximum 5 stars. So I give it 6 stars because it truly deserves it. As a lifelong tone hound since I started playing guitar in the early 70s, at age 13. I’m 61 years old now, the same age as President O’Bama. I play a Les Paul and a telecaster through a 1959 Fender Bassman and I just sold my Fender Twin to a family member. I play Jerry Reed style chicken pickin or at least he’s one of my influences. I had to use a compressor to sound right on the twin. Also it’s hard to rock out on a twin without my tube screamer. But then the Twin is so heavy! I replaced everything with the new Marshall DSL40 and it feels half as heavy as the Twin! It chicken picks like a compressed amp should and there’s no need for the tube screamer. It’s much easier to set up than the heavy Twin, and I don’t have to wrestle with all the cords and batteries and pedals. Much more efficient and it even sounds like the old Fender Bassman. Now I can leave the Bassman in the closet, locked up, and I don’t miss the Twin at all. Marshall and AMS have really done it all with this amp - all the sound of the Bassman, with the volume of the Twin, at half the perceived weight!

Product Review I bought this combo to avoid taking my Blackstar half stack to gigs. And I’m so happy I did, it is so powerful and the tone is just awesome Marshall as expected. The cleans are crisp and shimmering. And the distortion is nice thick and heavy. My only dislike is the volume balance between the clean tone and the Crunch 1. When you switch from clean to crunch the crunch is too loud. But that’s not a big problem. All and all it’s a great combo amp. Very satisfied!

Product Review I bought this amp to play in my bedroom and write songs. I have a full-size MA head made in Vietnam that I use for live shows and this is its little brother. This amp has more features than its older brother but it roars just as hard and the gain is huge. With the power switch, you can turn the power down to 20 watts. Or if you are in a club, 40 watts are plenty for small to midsize venues. While this amp was made in Vietnam, it is a high quality amp that proves that the Vietnamese are great workers.

Product Review This is an amazing amp for a great price. It has that great Marshall tone and is so clear you can hear each note of the power cord you are playing. Pick slides sound fantastic compared to my prior amp. While the reverb is not that great, the loop allows you to include pedals that sound perfect. I would highly recommend.

Product Review Received my first amp back in February, played about three weeks no issues. Then amp just quit working, nothing just like guitar was not even plugged in. Best part of experience was how fast and hassle free American Musical Supply handled my problem. Gave me a return authorization number and prepaid UPS return label and told me to box back up and would ship me a replacement soon as UPS scanned the return package. Talk about great customer service, received my replacement amp same week I shipped the defective one back. Really like the sound and features of this amp just hope I received a fluke far as quality. Again was blown away by the service of American Musical Supply, would recommend this company to anyone for their musical needs.

Product Review I once owned a TSL 100 Half Stack and this amp lines right up with that one in terms of tone. The only change I am making is swapping out the V-Type speaker for a v-30. My 4x12 had V-30's so I think this and then a tube change should get it right into the sweet spot. What I am saying is this amp sounds really good out of the box, takes pedals well, and serves as a good base line to start making changes to get it right where you want it. I am not gigging and use this at home to record demos for my hobby music so if you need a good amp you can throw a sm-57 in front of to record quick demos then this is the one.

Product Review I bought a DSL40C just about two years ago. Before playing it I was hesitant when I saw it was made in Vietnam. However, this thing is built like a tank and has the Marshall tone in Spades! So, when the DSL40CR came out I had to have one. These amps have four channels making this a very versatile amp. I also purchased the six button footswitch for versatility at the press of a footswitch (the amp comes with a two button switch). This amp exceeded my expectations. AMS is a great store with helpful sales people and support technicians. I recommend this to beginners and pros. Keep on rockin' and long live Marshall!

Product Review I've had a lot of Marshalls. Everything from 10 watt practice amps to a JVM410H and this one is just as good as any of them. It can do clean, classic rock(AC/DC, etc) to hard rock and metal. It's versatile enough to practice with and use with a band. It' a lot more portable than my 100watt head and a 4x12. The half wattage feature works great and doesn't kill your tone. Reverb per channel is a nice feature. The footswitch is metal and heavy duty. It does great with a tube screamer or J. Rockett Archer, but you could honestly gig without pedals and not miss anything. I plugged it into my 2x12 greenback cab and to my 4x12 Vintage 30 cab and it can hang with any amp around. It's a great amp, and it's affordable too. Nothing to hate about this one. Pro quality at a hobby price. What's not to love?

Product Review This is my first tube amp and honestly I don't know why I waited so long. I can get the tone I've always wanted effortlessly, from crispy cleans to heavy OD this amp can do it all at any volume. I mostly use it on the 20w setting because on the 40w it gets plenty loud and even the drummer tells me to turn it down. One issue I noticed is that the volume drops when using the fx loop. I was able to offset this by raising the volume on my pedals. But if you have one that doesn't have a volume knob you are s.o.l. because the drop is noticeable. This is my second one I received because the first was defective but shout out to AMS, they fixed it no questions asked and I received my new one within that week. This amp weights about the same as my vox ac30vr but is just about an inch shorter. I wished it had side handles so I could lift it more easily into my car because it can get kinda heavy around 50.lbs. Overall I'm really happy with this amp and get excited every time I'm going to play,I've has this for about a month and hope it lasts a long time.

Product Review I never had a Marshall before, and the quarantine was boring, so....you know how that goes. Things I love about this amp: Essentially 4 channels: A dual clean and a dual dirty. Either can connecet to one of the two channel speaker/amps, the clean or the dirty. I keep the clean on green/red (level 1 crunch with the dirty speaker - gives a great, kind of fuzzy crystal clean) and the dirty on red/green (level 4 crunch with the clean speaker channel.) Works for me. The reverb is not tube, but it sounds great if you max both of them - there are independent clean/dirty reverbs. Sounds subtle and delicious. NOT powerful. You can put headphones (real ones: I use either the Beyer Dynamic 600 ohms or the HD280s from Sennheiser. I haven't tried "regular" headphones with the amp.) in the emulator/line out jack in the back (1/4"). Sounds amazing for late night tone exploration. I do not gig with it, I'm strictly a guitar dad who loves his music. It makes me happy.

Product Review I had been eyeing the Marshall Dsl40c for several years now and never really got around to picking one up. This year I finally decided to pick up the new model, the dsl40cr, it’s a great tube combo for multiple applications and the fact the it has several outputs for 4ohm/8ohm/16ohm aftermarket speakers like a Celestion V30 for example is a really nice feature. If you’re specifically looking for something to play that old dad metal or even modern metal this would be a great amp!

Product Review Two channels with separate volume controls and two modes each channel and separate master volumes for each channel make this the most versatile amp since the older Plexis. The only complaints are (1) this thing is heavy as all get out and (2) you really need the 6 button footswitch model 91016 to get the full convenience and potential of the amp and it's 150 bucks however I will be ordering one. This amp is a winner an absolute gain machine with that Marshall tone they are famous for. Very pleased with my purchase and AMS customer service!

Product Review I was looking for a main guitar amp and had all sorts of candidates up for consideration when I decided on the Marshall DSL40CR. After nearly one year, I have zero regrets with my decision. For reference, I have varied tastes. I love Julian Lage's sound with his telecaster and champ, I am a huge Oz Noy fan who uses a lot of effects and plays Fenders and I'm mostly interested in playing jazz like my favorite guitar player and guy I study with, Jimmy Bruno. My two main guitars are a Fender Stratocaster and an ES335. I thought i would end up with a Fender Princeton Reverb which I really liked and add pedals for distortion. When I checked amps out I also really liked the Fender Blues Jr. I had a budget of around $1000 but was willing to go a little higher if I liked the amp. I plugged into the Marshall thinking I would not be impressed but I was really surprised by how clear and how warm the clean channel was. I thought it sounded so great, I could possibly use this amp to cover all my needs. I kept comparing it to my other favorite amps and after a few weeks of trying amps and comparing, I was sold on the Marshall. I am a big fan of really getting to know my equipment and growing with it, I feel like between this amp and my guitars all my needs are covered. It comes with a foot pedal to switch between channels and the only pedal I use with this amp is the electro-harmonix Oceans 11 (which I also love!). I feel between this amp, my one pedal, and the pickup selections on my guitars, I get every sound I want. I mostly play for contemporary church services which covers everything from rock to pop and gospel but I mostly am interested in playing and studying jazz guitar and I use this amp for that as well. The clean channel is great and the EQ allows me to dial in to fit a room or certain event. I would have bought this amp if it was $1100, it was by far the best amp for my tastes and preferences. At its current price point, I think this amp is the best deal out there. I have hauled this amp out once or twice a week for the past year and play at all volumes, I have had zero issues or concerns. I love this amp more and more as I play it. Thanks Marshall!

Product Review I used to have a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 head that got lost in a flood a few years ago..I LOVED that amp and have never been able to replace it..until..Marshall re-released that circuitry as the DSL series a couple years ago..I heard this news and thought it was too good to be true so I ordered the DSL 40CR to find out..OMG this sounds exactly like my old beloved JCM2000..EXACTLY..all the controls and features are the same just made overseas and much more affordable..as usual AMS delivered as promised..20 years and they have never let me down..even had it to me by the next day..100% satisfies agin

Product Review This is one amazing amp!! I own an EVH 5150 III, a Peavy XXL, a Fender Mustang, and a small Marshall 10 watt practice amp. I have tried several different amps to include other Marshall’s, in search of the right tone and right amount of crunchy gain. I have to say that this puppy is a serious tone beast! This amp has crunch for days and cleans up like no one else’s business. The 5150 I own has more gain and crunch than you can shake a tube at, but does not clean up as well as the shimmering clean tone of the DSL40 CR. My Peavy has an awesome clean tone but it’s a solid state amp so the crunch side of it (although great) lacks a bit of personality. Ponder this: i was using the 5150 III for all the dirty to full on metal tones and switching to the XXL for cleans.. the DSL40 CR does both. I can go from super clean ballads to AC/DC crunch, all the way to full on Slipknot on this beast of an amp combo. Don’t get me wrong, I love all my amps but the DSL40 CR has become my favorite go to amp due to its versatility and tone. It took me a long time to find this amp and I tried many (including other Marshall’s), read and watched reviews on many amps, and bought a few too.. but the DSL40CR exceeded what I had expected. I am a tone chasing fool but prefer playing straight through an amp without effects (except for a wah here and there) and this amp is perfect for what I do. If you are looking for a great tone amp with shimmering cleans to full screaming gain then look no further. Set the dials to please your ears’ taste buds and go. I would have loved to write a review when I first got the amp but I felt I would have done it a disservice to review it before breaking it in and putting it through some serious use. I have no regrets with this purchase at all and nothing to complain about. I look forward to plugging into this amp everyday and just jamming. Thanks Marshall and thanks AMS for great products and service!!

Product Review This amp is pure Marshall, period. The clean is outstanding, the Crunch is perfect of 70s rock, and the OD1 and OD2 provide pure high-gain Marshall. The amp is brutally loud, even at the low wattage setting. It gives liquid, singing sustain that rivals amps that cost 3 times as much. It is heavy (50 lbs) but that just speaks to the robustness of the build. I love this amp and if you want Marshall Rock tone you will too. Get it.

Product Review This amp has all the Marshall tone you can ask for in a 40w combo. I thought the duel master volumes were a little redundant, but I found myself using them more and more. The red side of the clean channel has a nice classic rock crunch tone that can be cleaned up just enough by rolling back the guitar volume. The green side of the gain channel is a continuation of the red side clean channel. Switching back and forth between them makes for a nice lead boost when you adjust the master volumes accordingly.

Product Review I bought this amp combo as a gift to my son for his thirtieth birthday. I am delivering it to him in a couple of weeks and can't wait to see his reaction when he sees it. He loves to play his Dean guitars and needless to say, a huge fan of Dimebag, Zakk Wylde, and Randy Rhodes. My son has always wanted his own Marshall amp but for whatever reason, something always came up and things fell through. He is extremely talented for someone who has never had any formal tutoring or lessons. Ever since he picked up his guitar as a teenager, he hasn't put it down. I wish for him to follow his dreams and heart in what he loves to do. I can only hope that this gift will steer him onto that path. I'm sure he'll love it and enjoy for many years.

Product Review This Amp is so good, I love it. It has an exceptionally clean sound right out of the box and the crunch you need when dialed in. This is a Marshall. I wish I had bought one of these, years ago. It can be nice and silent for practicing at night and loud as hell when rocking the stage. I am very impressed with this Amp. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. Hey, AMS has great customer service too, and I have bought several things from them in the past. I love their 12 month payment plan. Keep doing this, AMS! My next purchase will probably be the JVM410H.

Product Review I’m enjoying this amp so far. I think it’s very versatile because you could probably play anything from jazz to metal on it. So that’s pretty cool. It’s priced well also. It’s loud which is cool. I think it’s perfect for gigging and it switches down to 20 watts for home. Yeah it’s great! The only thing is I wish the reverb was a little better. It’s very subtle but then again playing with the band you don’t really miss it too much plus it gives you an excuse to buy a reverb pedal ??

Product Review Upgraded from Marshall DSL40C to DSL40CR. Loved the 40C but wanted the extra features of the 40CR, such as the optional 6-button footswitch and dual Master volume. It also has a Midi interface, Im looking forward to learning about that. Zero disappointment so far about the amp itself but the included printed “user guide” is tiny, I will need a magnifying glass to read it. Has paper gotten so expensive that a full 8-1/2 x 11 sheet with readable font size would reduce profit so substantially as to be prohibitive? Sure, we can go online, but the .pdf version is the same tiny size! Buy this amp anyway, it’s controls are intuitive and the sounds it makes are truly wonderful, you can sell all those pedals you are using trying to make your current amp sound like this one sounds. Invest the extra money to get the 6-button footswitch if you don’t want to have to walk up to the amp and push buttons to make tone changes.

Product Review I've had this amp for a few months now, and I am in love with all the tones it produces, giving me amazing acoustic cleans to crunchy blues. When coupled with Mesa boogie Flux drive pedals the DSL produces face melting metal tones. The amp has been at a few gigs so far in small bars and venus and in those right quarters the amp cuts through and holds itself very well! Very happy with the amp and the quality Marshall produces!

Product Review This amp is a must have for any guitar player. All the video reviews in the world won’t help you until you hear it in person. I switched from a digital amp to this and WOW. I am blown away. Even at relatively low volumes, this thing has a thick marshall tone that can rip out power chords. Super impressed with it. It’s expensive but I’d save up your money and get this. Product Review It took me about a week to truly dial it in but now it sounds perfect! It definitely will give you the Slash tone if your looking for it. I keep it on the standard crunch channel and boost it with a boost pedal up front as I couldn't get the thick bass distortion that I was needing. I love Slash's tone but when I play its just a little too thin so I fixed that with a pedal. The clean is nice and warm as well, I just dont use it. I basically treat this as a one channel amp as I dont even have the footswitch connected to it. If I want cleaner tones, I just turn down my guitar. American Musical was great in offering the easy payment options as well. Overall, this amp is hands down my go to amp now. I have played through a Silver Jubilee and JCM 800 but this amp IMO has them beat. You can play at lower volumes and get those Marshall tones that you want, where you cant really do that with the others. You MUST PURCHASE THIS AMP!

Product Review I had owned the original DSL40 combo, and wasn’t thrilled with it. This new version improves upon everything the old one was lacking. The new v-type speaker is very close to the v30, and I wont be changing it out anytime soon. The addition of the two master volumes makes this amp very useable anywhere from the bedroom to the gig. I can get great sounds at TV volume. The shared EQ is much improved, not as hard to dial in a good setting that works well on both the classic and ultra channels. My only complaint is that I wish Marshall had offered this in a 40 watt head version, I would buy it in a hearbeat.

Product Review What else is there to say.? I love this amp.!! Cleans are smooth, thick and warm. The gain on the classic channel is 100 percent Marshall and input dependent, meaning hotter pickups will get you more chrunch and lower output pickups get you a little less. That being said, I’m able to go from sweet and warm using a Strat to nice and chrunchy using an SG.. The ultra gain channel is high gain Marshall, all you could ever use and best of all it’s USEABLE high gain.. no fuzz or mud... it’s just an amazing amp.. plenty of wattage for home or club use and half power mode is great when you really have to keep it down... trust me, buy this thing, you’ll be happy...

Product Review Marshall took the DSL 40 C which was a good product and improved it. The addition of the two new Master Volumes make a huge difference. I see it as having three "volume" or output controls per channel. You can set the two channel controls as you like them, then use the assignable master volume to lower the total volume of the amp. The new Celestion speaker is another upgrade. Recommended for anyone that wants that Marshall sound in an easy to use grand and go package.
