We have a half dozen of these and use them mostly for micing gospel choirs. The first time I saw these in use were with the Navy Band and I was blown away with how natural it sounded. Typically we use KM184s for choirs, but after trying these out they exceeded my expectations in that application. Very warm and precise sounding mics. I've had these for 4 months now, but I am a long time Neumann user. The best part for me is the size. It is a lot of mic in a small package and that makes it very video friendly.

OK, I got this mic for voice over where I had been using the Shure SM7B. I originally selected the Shure do to a non-optimal recording environment where I needed the selectiveness of the dynamic mic. Since I now have a treated studio I wanted to see if getting a high quality condenser mic would make any difference. I really didn't expect a huge difference, but I have an addiction to upgrading gear, so I tried it. Wow! The difference in these two mics was astounding. The clarity difference and tone quality was impressive. I am SO happy with this purchase!

I have used the Neumann TLM 103 as well as the U87 and really enjoy their capture on vocals, so when I needed one for my Second Recording Studio, I decided on this TLM 102, and it sounds amazing.
Its crisp, clear Top-End is clean and true to life on vocals, with little to no post-production EQ in the mix.
If you're torn between the TLM 103 VS the TLM 102, I would definitely recommend this Neumann TLM 102, as its Capsule is derived from the Neumann U87.

Industry music producer and engineer @KiLowkey here. Really love the sound that comes from this mic ! Extremely colorful and solid. The Dynamics that are picked up are so pure it seems to almost compress the vocals into the mix raw !! And harmonies sound amazing because of the detail it’s picking up in the different vocal ranges. Can’t personally compare to the 103 but I will say myself and my clients are extremely happy with this mic. Try it !!

The Neumann TLM 102 is a no brainer for home studio use . Neumann sound is all I can say . Akg 414 &c2000 , blue dragonfly & spark, shure sm7b 57 beta 58, oktava 319 & 2500, AT 3035, 4047, Rode K2, e609, blue encore and stereo pair Oktava 012 Russian. That’s my mic locker . They have all got a sound but the Neumann is the sound ! Buy a 57 and eq till you can save up for the Neumann . It kills!

I can’t speak highly enough about this microphone and American Musical’s willingness to send the microphone out so it’s vast benefits can be utilized for whatever musical situation needs improving. I go to school for music production and I didn’t like the quality of the mic we were provided . I used it for the time being and then I heard about the Neumann being the best so it took me a while to find it and when I saw this ? I instantly loved it . I was recommended this mic by a friend. He has this and the TLM 103, but actually likes this better on a lot of his clients. I said "what the heck" and gave it a shot. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. This is now one of my best vocal mics along with my all-time favorite, the Sony C100. I mainly record Hip-Hop and Pop, I highly recommend the TLM 102. So far it sounds great, whether running through my RND Portico 511, or straight through my Audient ID44. I give it two thumbs up

I just wanted to state what my ONLY con about this mic is, that it's $700 already and they expect you to pay an extra $140 for the mount (which I had to). Other than that, the sound is rich and warm; have yet to hear anything sound better... in person, of course.
TO THOSE OF YOU GOING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THIS MIC AND THE BABY BOTTLE, GET THIS ONE IF THE FUNDS ALLOW YOU TO DO SO.

I don't know how Neumann does it. Granted, this isn't the cheapest mic by any means. But wow, does it sound great. As others have pointed out... there's a certain mojo with this mic that cannot be explained. Flawless for female vocals, male vocals, and acoustic guitar. Haven't tried it on any other sources.
Ultimately, an essential item for any studio.

I've been using this microphone for over a month on vocals and its great! Paired with the Apollo Twin interface I get a smooth high-end and a full low-end. It definitely performed as expected. If you have a higher pitched voice the vocals can get a bit harsh but it isn't anything EQ couldn't fix. The build quality is great and the mesh cage doesn't feel like it would bend or get dented easily. I personally like the TLM 102 over the 103. The 102 has a fuller low-end and doesn't have such a sharp, almost piercing high-end like the 103 does. For $700, its a great microphone out of the box and I prefer it out of all the microphones in my arsenal (Shure SM7B, Blue Baby Bottle, Blue Bluebird, Neumann TLM 103).

First off, can’t go wrong with the Neumann brand. They are a benchmark in the audio industry. For me, this is my first “high end” microphone. I’m barely getting a studio going, and this was an excellent purchase. I was looking to invest in a good vocal mic, and something that could also work with instruments. Thanks to the stimulus help, I was able to afford it. It has warmed up my vocals, and sounds really smooth. I have used it on my bass amp as well. Although, I prefer other mics for that, I like the detail it captures. I have barely used in a handful of projects so far, from vocals to instruments, still have a lot more to go. Can’t say much yet about it. But it is excellent!

I am so grateful that I get to hear what high end quality sounds like. I recently upgraded to the Neumann TLM 102MT from the Sterling ST151 after getting some negative feedback on some home studio recordings. I’d done everything from soundproofing the room to upgrading the DAW I was running. I still couldn’t get a clean sound. Now, using the Neumann, I can hear a huge difference. The sound clarity makes the mixing process so much easier. I love it.

Been using a pair of the TLM102's as drum overheads and not only are they clean but very natural sounding. I have them placed above but slightly behind the kit and when the mics are solo'd they pick up the entire kit with great frequency response. Their small size is also unobtrusive visually. I also suggest using the shock mounts to be sure you're not going to get any odd sympathetic vibration noises. Great mics from one of the most reputable names in the market.

My mic-ography if you will, has been through a number of pics ranger from low end and the high mics, and I can say the Tlm 102 deserves a spot in top 5 condenser mics out right now. The jump in quality from my last mic may have swayed my opinion, but it honestly sounds great. Ive had it for two weeks and can tell the difference in clarity and presence from my previous mic. It requires less work for my recorded vocal. I mainly record R&B and HIPHOP music so ive got to put it to the test and its out done itself time after time. The only issue I have with the overall package is the price of the shock mount, but othher than that, its a must have!

I waited so long to buy this mic, I read so many reviews, was very leery and didnt want to pull the trigger on this purchase. I wasn’t sold on dropping $700 on a mic i really wasn’t sold on. Needless to say I am very glad I did purchase this. It helps with the monthly payments but nonetheless it’s Worth every cent. Very great product, not to mention I wasn’t sure about purchasing from this company. It was one of those things where you know a lot of people that know about a place, but nobody has purchased from them yet and you don’t want to be the first. Well, I was the first. No regrets. Came very quick, may have helped with living in California. But I will be purchasing more things from this company.

The Neumann TLM 102MT studio microphone has significantly improved the quality of my songs. I primarily record woman and male vocals for most of my projects and I’m very satisfied with the quality I’m getting out of the microphone. I highly recommend the studio microphone for producers and sound engineers that are on a budget.

This was a huge upgrade but affordable one! It shines on vocals and acoustics, smooth, warm and articulate. I upgraded from a Rode NT1A and the clarity is just stunning. Take my word for it, this mic is a game changer for your home studio!

This mic is definitely worth its price point and some. Great mic, very small but big sound. Crisp, full bodied performance with high spl. I run mine through WA-73eq, GAP LA3a for tracking and sounds Great. Maintains detail even when pushed hard, stays crisp, clear and warm. Use is used for mostly rap vocals and for this purpose it is the best option I’ve personally come across. I have a deeper baritone gritty voice and was worried it may not be the best option for me, but quickly put away my other blueberry AT4040 and CAD Tube condensers since purchasing. If you’re in the market for similar use, I do highly recommend this option. Side note has sounded excellent with every voice I,ever tracked this way and am very happy about making this pick.

The TLM102 is a great addition to your mic locker. Many will even say that it sounds a bit fuller than the TLM103 (another great mic, by the way). There is a nice richness to it that will sound great on vocals, guitars, or even a room mic. Pair it up with a great preamp, such as a 312 or a 1076 and you will be blown away. It’s not the *only* mic you want, but it’s one of you definitely need of you are serious about making some quality home recordings.

I spent quite some time searching for the perfect microphone to upgrade my personal studio. After recommendations from multiple people and plenty of research of my own, I concluded that the Neumann TLM 102 was the best option and I haven't been more happy with my decision. It has completely transformed the quality of my music and highlighted the best of my vocals. I highly recommend this microphone to anyone looking for a great upgrade from a beginner's setup.

I use this mic all the time on vocals guitar cabs and bass drums. I have also had great results as a mono drum overhead or knee mic. Horns and woodwinds came out great as well.

Amazing large-diaphragm, yet
compact, condenser mic. Classic Neumann quality and sound at an affordable price. Preferred over the TLM 103, which has more of a ‘boxy’ sound, IMO. Sounds excellent on vocals, drum overheads, acoustic guitar, upright piano, clean electric guitar and even voiceover work. Highly recommended.

This is my second Neumann Microphone, I record just about everything with them. Vocals are outstanding, you can not match the clarity with any other microphone in my opinion. String instruments and drums are great to record using this mic as well. As i own a recording studio Inspired Daydreamers LLC, we have a wide range of microphones but we heavily rely on Neumann. Hope this helps artist thinking about buying this microphone!

The mic is near perfection. Very flat and is not top or bottom heavy like most mics I’ve used in the past. Apart from its sonic beauty, it is highly visually appealing as well. I definitely recommend this mic to anyone who is serious about their craft and is attempting to create an intermediate stage home studio

Just bought the Neumann TLM-102MT from American Musical and it was missing something. I ordered the TLM-103MT and wow what a difference. This microphone is so clear and mellow. Can hear everything perfectly. It is the right size and weight and looks awesome. Ordered the shock mount and waiting for it from AMS. Take my advice buy this today. I have tried out maybe 7 to 8 of the best microphones in this price range and this one blows them all away.
This is all 5 stars from me and I can't say anything negative about this microphone.

I really like this mic!
Superior Neumann quality, and I expect this mic to last a long time.
Plug and play
It's small size increases the range of applications this mic can be used in. One feature to add, switchable patterns.
Excellent tone with a slight 6k boost, coupled with a pre amp and this performs well with vocals, acoustic as well as amplified instruments. I'm gonna get a second one and try them as a stereo pair drum mic.

Overall this is a microphone you will never regret purchasing, and that is saying a lot because at $700 bucks it is at least touching the ceiling of most project studio budgets. It is a versatile microphone for sure. I found it to be most useful on male vocals in the mid-low range and even jazzy style female vocals.
It's a Neumann, enough said
I gave this category 4 stars only because it does not include a shock mount. The standard included mount is sufficient but at this price point I would prefer a shock mount should be included. I felt like I just bought a Mercedes with plastic seats. Even so, the seats do not affect performance.
No switches on microphone but that's not a big deal just be sure to use a high pass filter or else you will pick up every rumble or bump.
Sound is one of the sweetest I have heard in a while. Be warned if you are looking for a super high crispy sound this isnt for you. It really shines on mid range and lower vocals such as Josh Turner, Luke Bryan style country in my experience or Amy Winehouse even.

Sounds really clear, not harsh at all.
Needs phantom poser and or a quality preamp
Wonderful. A little more high end than a 103, but nowhere near a cheap condenser
