Product Review Works as advertised, but you have to be diligent in finding and updating the firmware. Firmware version 1.38 is not included in the most recent installation download. It is located in the knowledge base section of the support area on the Presonus website. Shame on them for not putting this in the download area. Using the latest installation download (V1.35), the fader did not follow automation. After I updated the firmware to V1.38, it worked fine. This is where to find the latest firmware -- http://support.presonus.com/entries/20470206-FaderPort-1-3-8-firmware-Motorized-Fader-Solution Good luck.

Product Review I've used several Control Surfaces in my home recording studio over the past 15 years including products by Yamaha, Avid Artist, Qcon Pro and Mackie Control plus 2 Extensions. This little $130 gem is the most reliable and user friendly one I've used. It may have only one fader, but everything works flawlessly and it's reliable in every aspect. I wish Presonus would just make one with more faders. So save yourself the frustration and $$$ and purchase one of these. You won't regret it!

Product Review The Faderport makes computer recording a lot more pleasant. I'd like to see more products like this. It took all of 5 minutes to set up. Pretty much plug and play! I'd like to see controls for effects send but that's what midi controllers are for I guess... Worth it's weight in gold if I never smash another mouse!

Built very well. Heavy and durable. I love the transport. Makes life SO much easier than pointing and clicking with a mouse! I run PT 9.0.3. I was actually dreading hooking this up and had set a side a few hours to trouble shoot, load new drivers, etc. I had it working in under 5 minutes. So simple to hook up and connect with Pro Tools. I think this was the best money spent on my studio. Makes Pro Tools and recording in general alot easier and more fun. Looks just like the picture. Sleek, small, yet highly functional

INDISPENSABLE as a remote MIDI control surface!

Built like a tank and with its rugged metal face plate and seriously durable front panel control buttons and fader, this thing should last forever... The Faderport's reasonably deep MIDI control of my Pro Tools software has made my life SO much easier. I have it mounted on my Yamaha DTX rack at the drum station in my project studio: this unit, combined with a video monitor and wireless mouse/keyboard at the station, has TOTALLY eliminated the need for me to get up to tweak any parameters at my main workstation where my Pro Tools Rig resides. My workflow has increased, I am able to tweak my Toontrack software to my heart's desire and track/edit at will from my drum station - in very large part thanks to the Faderport! Stupidly easy to use. Seriously, the Faderport met and far surpassed every expectation I had of it and has totally changed my life in my studio. Thanks, Presonus! Are you kidding? This is a STEAL at this price point... Looks great and compliments my other gear - like a seamless extension of my Mac Pro, and it sits well on the Yamaha DTX rack it is mounted on! (*Note: there is no mounting hardware or screw holes on this item so don't expect either, it's meant to sit on a flat surface - I customized a secure, stable mount for it and attached it to the drum rack with a multiclamp....)

Built great, but wouldn't work

The Faderport appears to be a physically very well-built unit. Unfortunately it's drivers refused to work with my computer, even though my system fullfills its system requirements; I followed the install instructions to the letter, but when it got to the point where it tries to "see" the unit and download/install firmware updates it kept insisting that it couldn't find it and to try again. I went through all of the various fixes listed in the various related online forums - still no luck. The final straw for me was that PreSonus never replied back to my attempts to contact them for support, via both email and phone (emails were never replied to; whenever I called I got voice-mail and they never called me back). After various attempts to get support from PreSonus this way and getting zero responses, I finally just gave up and returned the unit. It's really a shame, as I have other PreSonus equipment that I'm very happy with and had high hopes for the FaderPort. Hardware-wise, the features appeared to be wonderful: solid build-quality including Alps fader, solid design, etc. Unfortunately that became a moot point when it refused to work with my computer... Features I'd add? Actually support from PreSonus would've been a nice feature, but sadly they apparently didn't find my situation worth replying back about. Next time perhaps I'll try a Frontier AlphaTrack, which had been my original intention. The unit was impossible to use at all for the reasons listed above. The manual that shipped with it was old (dated 2004) and missing much of the information needed to work with SONAR that I needed; I ended up downloading the newest manual and drivers from their website. Had the unit actually worked, it would've been an exceptional value. The FaderPort certainly LOOKS very nice indeed, I'll give it that...

Durable, Compact, Must have for all Portable Pro Tools Users!!!!

By: zero2700 from yonkers NY      Submitted: 5/5/2009

Built with heavy metal shell, all buttons are nice and spread out in a compact design, all the key buttons you need while recording/mixing. Motorized fader is awesome (only when its plugged in with the ac adapter), Has all the important buttons thats needed when recording/mixing. Very easy to use once you install the drive and follow the simple steps (which they show you how to to do). I paid the original price of $200 when it first came out and I still thought it was worth it at that price, Luckily AMS priced matched the new $130 price and now I consider it a steal. This should be worth way more and is a must have for any Pro Tools user who wants to go portable, compact, or just have a simple control surface thats smaller than a mouse pad. The motorized fader is such an awesome feature to have on such a small unit, its super sensistive and response excellent with the mixer interface in Pro Tools. I love the look and feel of this unit, the feel is nice and heavy which totally makes the plastic light control surfaces look like toys.

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
This is a high quality item which looks and feels like it will stand up to years of use. I was beginning to think the item would never ship but AMS contacted me by e-mail the day it arrived (as promised) and it was at my door three dyas later.

FEATURES:
The functions all work as listed in the product literature; this unit is a major timesaver and speeds up the workflow during sessions.

EASE OF USE:
I followed the simple two step instructions for setting up the Faderport with Pro Tools M-Powered and it worked perfectly from the start.

VALUE:
The Faderport is a good value for the money - there is little like it available in its price range.

SOUND:
The product of course makes no sound but certainly helps craft more professional sounds from my DAW.
