This gear is the sweetest and coolest instrument a female could have. It is easy to handle on my shoulders. Easy to change between sounds. I love the slide wheel. You can’t have one of these without the edge case. By far the best gear I have owned. I played along with a guitarist and what a great blend.

I love this keytar so much but I wish that more technology was integrated in it, so that you could have more of a band in the box like other Keyboards of this caliber rather than having to rely on memory cards, Bluetooth, and programming. The sounds are great, it’s not too heavy and it looks cool especially if you’re nostalgic for the 80s and want to incorporate this into your modern day gigs.

What I completely love about the Edge, I’m an rnb/pop artist. And I play the talkbox. I usually use a normal synthesizer, and stand behind a keyboard. But with the edge , it gives me freedom to move around a little more while I play. I’m a dancer also, so I can be more stylish when I have my Keytar with me. Performed with it and got nothing but great compliments ! So it’s a 10/10 for me! I highly recommend for anyone! Including talkboxers

I’ve been a musician for 18 years - all that time I’ve only used stringed instruments. This was me going out on a limb to try something new - I would like to say that I am very pleased with the transition. The Roland feels very familiar in my hands and so many control options to alter the sounds which I’m just beginning to explore. I definitely recommend this for anyone who is looking to add more flavor on your play.

The Keytar is so nice. Probably one of the nicest keyboards I have purchased, but not the last.
But the carry case is way too heavy. It is some type of case made for something else other than the Keytar.
This I didn't like about the set up. It becomes difficult after moving it a few times. The carry case kinda makes me want to get some other Carry case to carry the Keytar around in. The carry case is heavy, bulky in everyway, and can injure you just by the way it's made.
Maybe this case is made for a AR-15 rifle or some heavy munitions deal.

I purchased this Keytar to play at church.
Once you famiar yourself to this instrument you will find that it is a lot of fun to play and Roland gives you a plethora of sounds to start with.
The key action is typical Roland set up. It has preloaded Roland Sounds but be prepared to invest in some reachable batteries and I suggest getting a wireless set up.

I've played keyboards/keetars since the mid 80's along with 7-string bass.
The Ax Edge opened up another level of flexibility especially on stage.
I play keys and bass simultaneously. But that locks me in to being at the keyboard. The only time I can walk around and engage the audience is when I'm on bass only. But now with the Ax Edge, I can play tite synth bass lines and walk around like a bass player.
The brass sounds are good for live but for recording I have other sound sources I prefer. The lead sounds are great as well as bass and vocoder sounds.
It's strength is operational flexibility on stage. Beyond pitch and envelope changes, there are also programmable buttons on the back of the neck you can operate with your thumb. There are also octave up/down buttons. All these functions are great in a live performance where you need to make changes on the fly.
One limitation is that not all programming can be done on the keyboard. For more precise and elaborate programming, you have to use the USB port to a computer or use the Bluetooth function.
The Bluetooth function is great because I can make quick sound edits from my iPhone on the fly while on the road without having to find a laptop.
Add small wireless units like the Xvive U2 rechargeable unit here at AMS and even a midi wireless and you're good to go.
Hint: look into a customized edge attachment to make it uniquely yours.

Great features (including Bluetooth access via cell phone for on the road editing).
Well thought out functions including programmable switches behind the neck at the thumb.
Launching audio files also a big plus for segues or launching grooves for solo play.
Weak spots - big bright red LED program display faces the audience - should be on the neck facing up at the performer. Also the dives are only for pitch whereas models like the Korg 707 can be programmed to pitch dive simultaneous to open/closing the envelopes so the dives don't sound like a keyboard, they sound like a guitar whammy where the tonality changes with the pitch.
All-in-all a great keyboard with good biting sounds for the studio too.

The Roland AX EDGE did exactly what I wanted it to: it gave me a keyboard lead instrument that got me out from behind the keyboard stands. It has plenty of useable lead and pad sounds, a decent piano, and a passable rock organ. I was disappointed that it did not include better guitar sounds, just distorted lead electric sounds good for shredding and not that great at that. Some good clean electric and acoustic sounds would have killed you? I got the black keys. I love the look but they're difficult to see on a dark stage. If you're looking for a great keyboard, there are many better choices, but let's face it, this is a great vanity item. It gets you out front, it looks cool, and if you want to shred it can do that well. Personally. I don't shred all that much, but using a stereo looper, I can play a solo gig that generates interest and gets the job done. Anyway, aside from poor guitar sounds, I'm pleased.

This thing is a beast. Not heavy but still a complete unit. The factory sounds are everything you need to rip the frontman solos or offer a solid backing sound. The after touch is second to none and allows for incredible expression when coupled with the ribbon and modulation bar. Most keytars feel like toys but the key bed is solid and responsive. Super fat basses to screaming leads and evolving pads or poly synths the Ax-Edge is a behemoth of an instrument in any keyboardists arsenal. The added versatility of song mode and a fully functioning vocoder really make the Ax-Edge a gigging musicians dream.

I don't know why I didn't get on of these a LONG time ago. This is one amazing instrument. It adds so much life to my stage show, plus I can run all over the stage and beyond with this beautiful and very versatile instrument. I can start and stop any of my backing tracks from the AX from anywhere with the battery powered option and a wireless Keytar system. I can also modify the sounds and features from my cell phone or Ipad through the app. This is an all in one lead instrument that will stand both all alone and above any of it's competitors !!! I will be buying a second one with the all black keys and the other optional blade options.

From the home studio to the stage, this keyboard is a must for today's musician where creativity is always in demand. The on board sounds are awesome and customizable through a mobile app that is available for iphone or Android. And for those who wish to be a one man band, you can even load your favorite mixes into the song bank and play along. Oh...and last but not least, it is the coolest looking keytar ever made...especially the black. I've had this keyboard for about five months now, and it really has sparked my creativity. You'll absolutely love it!

Get it while you can! The previous model, the ax synth, was selling for close to $1500 USED after they discontinued it. this instrument will surely do the same. Expertly made, supremely crafted, the Ax-Edge has all the bells and whistles you could ever ask for, plus more. Absolutely beautiful, it's practically the Ferrari of keyboards, a real head turner. I'm still getting acquainted with her, most of the controls seem to be the same more or less. The onboard sounds are exactly what you hope - Bizarre, Beautiful, Versatile, and Ultra Customizable [even as is with the onboard controls on the instrument, i can only imagine the software. I'm gonna search for some user created sounds a little later when I get a bit more comfortable with it. It's much lighter and more comfortable than it's predecessor, and fits into the upright stage stand perfectly, which is nice. Anything we don't have to rebuy, right? It's just awesome, really. The keybed and playing action is so comfortable, and it immediately became my best DAW keyboard, with options for further adaptation to specific software formats. I'm honestly surprised it's only a grand.

They could not have chosen a better name than 'Edge' because this distinctive key tar has all the features and none of the short-comings of any other product in the key tar category.

This is definitely not for everyone and that's ok. The worst thing about the keyboard is no integrated and removable battery system from roland. Also the only way I have found to access all of the patches is by using the app. Other than those, the keybed feels great and I really like the look of the all black keys.

Well I have the other roland ax synth and had it for a while and loved the fact it was so light and I could carry it pretty much anywhere and it’s battery operated. The new Ax Edge has more and better sounds and a vocoder which makes things fun. I have some other boards but they’re so heavy and my back can’t take all the hauling with so many performances so this makes life easy. The only thing I have to figure out is how to layer sounds like piano/strings and I’m not sure if the board has that capability but it should so I’m hopeful I just have to read the book or find a YouTube video but I went straight to a performance taking it right out of the box at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe in grosse Pointe Mi with Dave McMurray ( sax for was not was , Ken , Kid Rock and a bunch of other people )

Great organ, horn and string sounds. I love the synth and guitar sounds. The piano/keyboard sounds leave a little to be desired. I can definitely make use of the piano/keyboard sounds, but after using my Motif XS for so many years, I became used to those piano/keyboard sounds.
I’ve played 6 band gigs with my AX-Edge, and it’s been fun being as mobile as the guitarist and bassist on stage. I also sing while playing, so this took a moment to adjust to since I was so used to the standard keyboard position for playing. But, I’ve made good use of the octave buttons, and I’ve learned how to preset my favorites, so performance is easy.
It did take a 2 shows to get used to the shoulder positioning, but I’m very used to the feel now.

I love this letter! Given the fact that I was so thrilled that Roland came out with another rendition of the AX. This baby tops the original!! It’s bigger than I expected. It’s light weight but man with the technology and sounds on it makes it a PURE BEAST!! I also love the effects that you can set as well. So many uses you have with it.

This is my 5TH keytar ,going backto the MoogLiberation in the 70's.I have played entire gigs on them,and this instrument shoots that experience to another level.Detail of sounds superior toAX Synth,due to progress in engine tech.Easy to bring in left hand to play piano w/both hands,just adjust strap so keyboard is level,angle neck toward you for access to pitch&mod controls w/ mono lead sounds.2 points:the sync,lead sounds are very evocative and useful out the box,but mod bar depression on some patchs results in a hard to control LFO vibrato that starts wide and gets faster when bar is pushed to full value.Some may like the effect;I think it is grating and unmusical,will'deprogram'this with editing.Also, why did'nt Roland consider diff. pitch bender design aka wheel? I use bend alot,ala Jan Hammer,and never feel same level of control with a membrane versus a wheel.Ihave to keep moistening the left middle finger for accurate bends!Live on the Edge!

I’ve owned just about every keytar Roland has made since the SH101, this has got to be the best yet. The ability to edit, save and download programs and libraries via Bluetooth from my phone. The sounds are amazing, and wireless! They hit the ball out the park with this one!
