In the spirit of forging new pathways in tonal possibilities, Taylor is proud to introduce urban ironbark, or red ironbark, as the new wood for the back and sides for the 517e. Sourced through our urban wood initiative, urban iron bark is destined to become a favorite among guitar players. Iron bark is dense, like ebony, and captures the sonic depth of rosewood accelerated to new heights. When paired with the torrefied Sitka Spruce top, you get a sound that is loud yet sweet with piano like fidelity and complexity.

The appointments of the new 500 series capture the traditional aesthetic while adding touches to highlight the new wood pairing. The 517e features Marquise inlays on the fretboard and bridge, faux tortoise binding on the body, a single ring ab rosette with maple and black purfling, and Taylor nickel tuners.
