So, what are the differences between a standard guitar and a baritone guitar? The first is the difference in scale length - the distance between the nut and the bridge. Most standard guitars are around 25 inches, give or take a little bit depending on the make and model. Baritone guitars are in the 27-30 inch range and they usually have a slightly bigger body and extra bracing to handle this longer scale length and heavier string tension. A longer scale length also affects the overall feel of the instrument - the distance between the frets is also going to be longer, and the increased tension means you’ll have to experiment with different string gauges to find the right feel.
