Epiphone Pro-Bucker Humbuckers with Coil-Tapping
The Epiphone Limited Edition Exclusive Les Paul Plus Top Pronow features Pro-Bucker pickups for that one-of-a kind Les Paul sound. Pro-Bucker pickups feature Alnico II magnets, the same magnets used in sought-after vintage PAF humbuckers. Alnico II magnets provide a rich, warm tone with a sparkling high end and a solid low end.
The Limited Edition Les Paul Standard Plus Top Pro features a Pro-Bucker-2 in the neck position and a Pro-Bucker-3 in the bridge position. The Pro-Bucker-3 is slightly overwound to provide balance with the neck pickup and a bit of edge for lead work. Pro-Buckers emulate the sound of original PAF pickups which were hand-wound with a few extra turns of wire. Both the neck and bridge pickups now also feature coil-tapping, controlled by a push/pull volume control, allowing players an infinite variety of pickups sounds from single-coil bark to full humbucker bite.
When winding humbuckers, Epiphone utilizes a double vacuum waxing process that ensures quiet operation, free from microphonic hum. The pickup is first placed in the specialized wax vacuuming system before the cover is placed on the unit to ensure that the wax fully penetrates to the very center of the pickup and solidifies all parts. After the cover is placed on, it is again given a second vacuum wax bath until the unit is completely saturated with wax. Epiphone uses only the highest quality parts for its pickups, such as ABS plastic bobbins, 1010 Cold Rolled Steel pole shoes and pole screws, Alnico magnets and the finest magnet wire available.
Hardware to Last a Lifetime
The Epiphone Les Paul Limited Edition Plus Top Pro features Epiphone's legendary rock-solid hardware including a LockTone Tune-o-matic fully adjustable bridge and a Stopbar tailpiece. And now Epiphone's updated, patent pending design auto locks the bridge and tailpiece in place with no tools needed! This also results in improved sustain.
The Epiphone Les Paul Limited Edition Plus Top Pro uses 1 inch diameter potentiometers for better ‘throw,’ longer life and reliable service. Epiphone's all-metal toggle switches use rugged spring-steel contacts to ensure years of reliable service and performance. Epiphone's proprietary output jack features an improved contact shape and heavy-duty spring steel to increase reliability and Grover 14:1 machine heads to ensure tuning stability and long life.

| A Steal At The Price |
| Quality |
| Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? |
| Upon receipt, I went over the instrument thoroughly to check for shipping damage etc.. Was very pleased to find not a single flaw on the instrument. Build quality seems to be exemplary. Finish is flawless. |
|
| Reliability |
| How has it stood up over time? |
| We'll see. However, I do own 3 other Epiphones that have held up well so far. One I have had for about 12 years now(a Sheraton). |
|
| Overall |
| Your general opinion of this product. |
| I also own many other guitars - Martin, Gibson, Fender(USA), Ovation(New Hartford), Takamine, Ibanez and others. I have a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Custom in Cherryburst, so I was anxious to compare the Epi with the Gibson. Without getting long-winded, I'll just say the Epi compares very favorably with my LP Custom. I might even prefer the pickups on the Epi some... they have a nice creamy sound and the '77s PUPs sound perhaps a bit darker. I love them both!!! I have been playing for over 40 years, and this one is a keeper. Maybe not a high resale like the Gibby, but in every other way..... |
|
| Playability and Feel |
| How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? |
| I was really surprised at how well set-up this came for my preferences. Nice low action, just above fret buzz territory, but still buttery smooth to play. The neck feels like it may be just a tad chunkier than my Gibson LP, but still nice and fast. Frets seem smooth and even - no roughness or high frets. |
|
| Tone |
| Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? |
| The best word I can come up with to describe the bridge pickup driving a Fender Twin into mild overdrive is - creamy. Very nice tonal balance and a real smooth transition into breakup. Great stuff!! Love it! Coil splitting is a nice touch. Makes it just that much more versatile. Neck pickup is what you expect - a bit darker with less bite - but still potent and "creamy". |
|
| Finish |
| How did the stain or paint job look? |
| This guitar is a thing of beauty. I got the Iced Tea finish and it is GORGEOUS!! The photos on this site do not do it justice. A bit darker than the photos depict it to be. Just what I was hoping for!! I LOVE this color and finish! Flawless! Enough said. |
|
| Action |
| How was the action out of the box? |
| I haven't found a need to adjust it since it arrived. It feels every bit as nice to play as my '77 Gibson LP Custom. |

| Epiphone Les-Paul Pro Plus The Best |
| Quality |
| Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? |
| very well made smooth workmanship
on frets nice stain and clear coat
on body, for the money this is
your best buy. |
|
| Reliability |
| How has it stood up over time? |
| this guitar makes #12 guitars
purchased from AMS, all are still
rock solid, this Les-Paul makes
#6 as far as Les-Pauls, if you take
care of your instruments like I do
they will last you a lifetime. |
|
| Overall |
| Your general opinion of this product. |
| great guitar, I own several Gibsons
and their nice, but by far Epiphone
guitars stand right up to Gibsons,
people who look only at the name on
the headstock, shood put on a blindfold and just listen, very
hard to tell them apart. |
|
| Playability and Feel |
| How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? |
| neck is 50s type, nice and beefy,
controls are standard Les-Paul, you
know the guitar, you know what to
do. |
|
| Tone |
| Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? |
| pickups are OK, again if you know
how to dial up your tones your in,
coil splitting on the volume pots
is a plus. |
|
| Finish |
| How did the stain or paint job look? |
| I am a cabinet maker by trade, the
veneer and staining of the guitar
is top notch, whatever their doing
to make these guitars they need to
be very proud of their product, and
keep up the good work Bravo Epiphone. |
|
| Action |
| How was the action out of the box? |
| action as always on any guitar, no matter the price, needed to be lowered, no problem 5 minutes work
for me. |
