Tascam DR07 Portable Digital Recorder

The Tascam DR07 Portable Digital Recorder is an even smaller, more affordable package for portable digital recording. A pair of highly-sensitive built in mics captures a wide stereo image, recording in either MP3 or 16/24-bit WAV format. The DR07 is powered by AA batteries and it transfers files to a computer using a high-speed USB 2.0 connection. The versatile recorder even includes a windscreen, tripod stand mount and 1GB SD card to start recording right away.

Musicians will appreciate the playback functions of the DR07, including the ability to loop MP3s and slow them down without changing the pitch. External microphones and sources can be recorded through the mic/line input, and the recorder offers analog limiting, low cut and auto gain setting for great-sounding audio. But for great-sounding recordings, the compact DR07 is all you need.

Subject:Excellent and inexpensive
Quality: Good quality. Hasn't burped, blinked, or failed. Always works. No hassles of any sort
Features: The biggest feature it is quick, easy, and convienient. I use it for recording rehearsals and then dumping the recorded files onto a computer to edit an 1 1/2 hour rehearsal into a 20 minute practice mp3. I just plop it down on a convienent surface, punch the record button twice, and ignore it untill we are done going over songs. Easy. Other features: You can select a wide range recording of bit-rates. You can record in stereo or mono. You can choose how big and ugly the files will get. For some stuff you will want a smaller file and the quality reduction might not be noticable. Some stuff might be short and you will want to go for higher quality (and the higher memory used) You can playback at slower or faster speeds without changing the pitch. You can change pitch without changing speed. It can be set up to loop, play a small section over and over again, so you can figure out chord changes or solo runs. File transfer to computor is very easy.
Ease of Use: Easy to use. Basic functions are clear and intuative. Manual is easy to harvest info from.
Sound: Sound quality is great. Some hiss on dead quiet parts, but that's not a problem for how I am using it. Others have complained about handling noise getting recorded. I assume just about any recorder is going to have handling noise if you jostle it around while it is recording. What do microphones do when you bounce them around - they make noise!
Reliability: I have only had it for a month so I cannot really say. So far it has been flawless. I think it would be good if it came with a shock absorbing rubber cover like Fluke DMMs have. It is small and easily dropped. It has survived a few drops so far with no damage.
Overall: Perfect cheap 'n' easy tool that suits my needs. Sound quality is good. It is simple and easy to operate without investing a lot of time in the manual. Price is much cheaper than many others that do stuff I do not need.
Do you own this product?: Yes, and use 3 or 4 times a week

Quality: For the price range very good.
Features: Can learn to use it right out of the box, the revolving disc is kind of flimsy.
Ease of Use: Very easy to use, well laid out.
Sound: great
Reliability: If you want to use the adapter for it all the time it's great..just don't rely on battery power or you will be disappointed.
Overall: Here's the deal..I put in fresh alkaline batteries (2 AA), recording off and on for 45 min, got home, tried to play and guess what, the batteries were DEAD.
Do you own this product?: I sent it back after 1 use.

Subject:A Good Portable Digital Recorder
Quality: Although made of plastic, it feels sturdy. (I would not recommend you drop it however, or throw it at your band mates.)
Features: The important features are here without the fluff. Records wav, mp3. Has loop function and slows down recordings so it can be used to learn music as well as recording it. It is small and light weight. Although no on board speaker to monitor sound, it would just add weight to the unit, so I'm glad they left it off. Comes with wind screen for the built in mics which are sensitive. I do wish, however, it had digital ins and outs. Also, it numbers the files rather than naming it. You can however, transfer the files to computer and name them there.
Ease of Use: Simple, like a tape recorder. I didn't even have to open the manuel to start using it.
Sound: Pretty darn good for the price point. MP3 great for recording ideas or songs to learn, wav for better fidelity. Sounds nice and crisp with wav recordings.
Reliability: I have had it several months. Still ok.
Overall: I am very happy with it. Nice price for the stuff you need without paying for the fluff you might not use.
Do you own this product?: Yes, for several months now.
