EVH Eddie Van Halen D-Tuna Drop D Tuning System

This drop D guitar tuner is a revolutionary new patented device that lets you to drop from E to D and back, in an instant. EVH has already been using it on his guitars for five years. It's simple to use and it works. The EVH D-Tuna was designed to adapt to a double-locking tremolo, such as a Floyd Rose or Floyd Rose-licensed version fine tuner tremolo.

The EVH D-Tuna is made from the highest quality hardened steel. The patented design allows for precise fine-tuning adjustment, is simple to set up, easy to use and really works!

FAQ's

Q:How easy is it to install the EVH D-Tuna?
A: If you follow all of the directions step by step, it will be a very smooth install.

Q: Why do the other strings go out of tune when I drop to D?
A:The bridge must be stabilized first. This is done by blocking the bridge so it can not pull up. You can also use a tremolo stabilizer such as the WD or the Hipshot Tremsetter.

Q: Can the D-tuna be used on any Floyd Rose Tremolo?
A: It can be used on any Floyd Rose or Licensed Floyd Rose Tremolo with the long locking screw, where the fine tuner on the bridge presses directly on the locking screw.

Q: Why can't I get a full step drop?
A: There are few things to check. First, tune the "D" string. Then fine tune the "E" (using the D-tuna fine tuner). Back the fine tuner on the bridge off, then retune the "D" at the headstock. Did you use the right length locking screw? If the head sticks out of the D-tuna completely, it is too long.

Q: Can the D-tuna be used if the guitar is tuned down a 1/2 step?
A: Yes - Set if for D Flat in the "out" position and E Flat in the "in" position.

Q: What gauge strings are best?
A: Any! The D-Tuna works with all standard electric sets. (.009 thru .012)

Q: Can I use the D-Tuna on any other strings?
A: It will change the pitch of any string but it is designed for the low "E" string only.

Q: Can I use it on a low profile tremolo?
A: Yes, but it depends on how deep the bridge is set. A very deep cavity may require some minor routing, although most will not. Don't forget to stabilize the bridge first!

Q: Do I have to remove the D-tuna during string changes?
A: No , it will stay on the locking screw at all times.

Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Well....its a screw...so...but it is made from the materials it needs to work.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
It lasts a long time....and continues to work...my Wolfgang is a 1998 model...and it is still smooth as ever.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
Well....a little costly for a screw and a spring..I am positive it cost .95 cent to make and package....but I have one on my Wolfgang and wanted one for my Charvel So-Cal. EASY TO INSTALL AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOW DIRECTIONS....honestly took 5 minutes and I was ready to play...YOUTUBE AN INSTRUCTION VIDEO..
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Can't even tell its there...just make sure your bridge is adjusted correctly so that is doesn't dig a hole in your guitar body!!!!....also if you install it right, it is smooth to switch the tunung.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Hits D tuning, so you dont have to tune before those certain songs or change guitars when you play those Creed songs...
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Buy the chrome....cause the black wears down too fast from always putting your grubby fingers on it...looks kinda cool on your guitar anyway.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
You have to stabilize, flush, or block your trmelo...if you don't, it will fall so far out of tune that you won't be able to use it.

Well made.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
Seems like it will last just fine.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
Works perfectly. I used it on my Ibanez, with a tremsetter to keep things in tune, but still allow a full floating bridge. Absolutely flawless combination. The installation and setup can be tricky, with the possibility of drilling, routing....etc., but the end result is well worth it. I'm going to buy another set for my other axe.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Switching is a little awkward at first (mostly because I set it down low in the cavity, and need to dive the trem a bit to switch it), but I'll get used to it.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
No tone issues.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Looks ok.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Required tweaking, which is to be expected.
