ART Pro Channel Tube Mic Preamp and Compressor with EQ

The ART Pro Channel is tube compressor/leveling amp & tube EQ in one!
ART engineers have combined their world renowned Pro MPA, Pro VLA, and Tube EQ into a single product, creating this incredible sounding, affordable recording unit. The Pro Channel allows you to select ART's award winning optical/tube compressor or the coveted tube circuit - a design made popular by the sound of the old broadcast limiters. This legendary circuit is fast, fat and a bit aggressive, ideal with digital recording systems. The 4-band parametric EQ has selectable Q for the two sweepable mid-bands. All additions were made without compromise to the sound of the original designs, which have become pro standards around the globe.

ART engineers have combined the world-renowned Pro MPA, Pro VLA, and Tube EQ into a single product – creating the world’s best-sounding and most affordable professional recording channel.

The Pro Channel features many exciting design enhancements to ART’s pro and home studio staples, including the addition of a tube circuit to the compressor module. The Pro Channel allows you to select between ART’s award winning optical/tube compressor or the coveted tube circuit (a design made popular by the sound of the old broadcast limiters – now costing thousands of dollars). The tube circuit is fast, fat and a bit aggressive, and is guaranteed to become a legend among compressors as has the Pro VLA. The four-band parametric equalizer has selectable Q for the two sweepable mid-bands. As with all design elements of the Pro Channel, these Q options were fine-tuned by some of the industry’s top studio and live-sound engineers. Likewise, all new additions were made without compromise to the sound of the original designs (Pro MPA, Pro VLA, Tube EQ), which have become standards in professional studios and FOH rigs around the globe.

The Pro Channel defines the term "channel strip." The Pro Channel is an impressive package from the world-wide leaders in tube dynamics signal-processing gear. Pick one up and catch your own tube-buzz at your favorite ART dealer today.

Subject:Poor Sound Quality
Quality: This came cheaply packed. The unit inside wasn't even protected by plastic. It would seem that AMS has pawned a used or returned unit off on me and charged me full price. It's hard for me to believe that ART would have packed their products at the factory so badly.
Features: It has a pretty good compressor.
Ease of Use: EQ section is a little confusing, but all in all it was pretty easy to use.
Sound: Does not sound warm. The built in preamps in our Mackie Board sound much better than this.
Reliability: Well, it didn't break in the short time that we used it.
Overall: You HAVE to use the eq in order to get any sort of decent sound quality out if it. The preamp in this doesn't stand up on it's own. We're VERY disappointed in AMS (especially Customer Service and Accounts sections) lately. Customer service rep was impatient and rude. The accounts rep refused to bend her rules a little to make things right and keep our business.

Subject:Excellent Price to Performance Ratio
Quality: Had it only a short time. But initial quality is great. Very well built. Knobs have a great feel.
Features: Just learning the in and outs of the unit. I really like to be able to route my signal into the chain at different points.
Ease of Use: There's a difficulty level here, but there's so much you can do with this unit. I found the block diagram very useful when setting up the unit. Just be sure you pay attention to the gain at each stage.
Sound: This thing has tons of gain, but it's very easy to control. If you properly set up the gain chain it is a very quiet unit, even with the high levels of tube gain. Love it on vocals . Played a few riffs with a guitar and was able to create some nice sounding distortion efects. Tried it with a keyboard and found that each patch requires some tweaking. Of course one would expect that.
Reliability: Too early to tell.
Overall: So far I'm very pleased.
