Casio AP400 Digital Home Piano

Casio AP400 Digital Home Piano

Casio AP400 Digital Piano provides a beautifully rich resonance with an amazing range of expression.
The Power behind the new AP400 is a Tri-element AIF Sound Source incorporating very fine stereo sampling of an acoustic grand piano for sounds that are warm and natural, from the instant they start to sound right up until they decay. The Tri-element system uses three different samples taken in each range for accurate reproduction of the different timbres for various keyboard pressures. The original AIF system captures every nuance of keyboard play to put powerful tools of expression at your fingertips. The result is notes of virtually the same richness and clarity as those produced by an acoustic grand.

Casio AP400 Features
  • 88 Keys with Scaled Hammer Action for an authentic grand piano feel
  • Adjustable Key sensitivity (3 modes & off)
  • 128 note polyphony
  • 11 Tones Including two stereo-sampled grand piano tones
  • Keyboard Layer or Split
  • Real-Time 2 Track Recorder
  • On-board Digital Effects including Reverbs, Chorus and Brilliance
  • Duet mode for two people to play in the same range.
  • Music Library including 60 songs for lessons.
  • Built in Metronome
  • Key transpose
  • Tuning Control
  • Half-Pedal damper operation
128-note polyphony
128-note polyphony provides plenty of margin for high-speed passages and for performances that require intensive damper pedal operations.

Acoustic Resonance System
Using the damper pedal adds acoustic resonance, which is similar to that produced by the vibration of strings in a grand piano.

Scaled Hammer Action Keyboard for authentic grand piano feel
A spring-less hammer system that is similar to the one used by grand pianos provides a keyboard touch that is naturally firm. Lower notes play relatively heavier than higher notes, just like the keys on a grand piano.

Casio combines an intelligent stand design and elegant body to give the AP400 the look of a fine piano that complements the decor of the surrounding room.

Subject:Nice buy for the $
Quality: It is made well. The keyboard feels like a real piano. I am impressed. The foot pedals also feel right and there is an adjustment screw underneath to support the cabinet to ensure that everything is solid. Finish is nice and durable too. Not too bad for the price.
Features: The features are simple. The piano comes with scores and also with the music loaded in the machine. You can play along or set it to play the left or right hand, or both. This helps learn how to play by listening and reading.
Ease of Use: I'm pretty sure a monkey could put this together. It's pretty simple.
Sound: Sound is suprisingly good. Since this is built in a cabinet, the sound reverberates well and is rich. It goes fairly loud and you have 2 headphone jacks. Like I said, its simple, but the price is right.
Action: Action is like a real piano. Honestly, I can't feel the differnce. I was so close to purchasing an acoustic piano until I played the Casio. You'll be happy with the feel of this piano.
Value: I played one similar, an older model, at a music store. They tried to sell it to me off the floor for more than the price listed AMS. THis was an easy decision and the shipping was free.

Subject:Great Home Digital Piano at a Great Price!
Quality: Build quality is excellent. Stand is very stable and looks very nice. Metal pedals feel like the real thing!
Features: Pretty basic features. Has two headphone jacks which is nice. Also has MIDI and other features which I haven't used yet. However, I was just looking for an instrument that felt and sounded like a real piano and this fit the bill very nicely. The speakers ad 20W each are quite good and their placement makes it sound pretty realistic.
Ease of Use: As easy to use as most other digital pianos. Doesn't have a screen, but then again doesn't have that many extra features. Controls are pretty self-explanatory.
Sound: This is one of the things that really drew me to this digital piano. The piano tone (specifically the 'classic' setting) sounds very realistic, among the best I tried for under $1500. The non-piano tones are not that good in my opinion, but I dont use them much so it's a non-issue for me.
Action: This is what I love most about this instrument. For the price range (and above it), the Casio action, which is the same in this digital piano as in the related Privia PX120, PX320 and PX720, is the closest I have found to the Yamaha U2 upright I used in my old conservatory. It also doesn't seem flimsy like other brands I tried, even when playing pretty intense pieces. I specifically chose this action over the one in the Casio PX800 (shared with PX200 and AP500) because I found that the black keys in well-used display models felt very wobbly, whereas the ones on this type of keyboard did not.
Value: Definitely.

Sound:
Subject:Decent digital piano for the money
Quality: It is pretty well made for the price.
Features: It has all basic features that most digital piano should have - nothing more and nothing less.
Ease of Use: The manual is short and there is nothing complicated about it - just assemble and start playing.
Sound: Sound is decent but probably not as good as Yamaha YDP series.
Action: Action out of the box was as expected. I think the weighted keys feel a bit heavier than most other digital piano (which is a plus for me). Nonetheless, always try the digital piano before making a decision.
Value: Yes, for the price, this is a great digital piano. Probably, the main reason for choosing over Yamaha YDP.
