By taking advantage of the eight virtual tracks provided for each track, you can record a total of up to 272 tracks. In the 24-bit mode, the digital data passing through the fader and EQ is recorded onto the internal hard drive as 32-bit data, ensuring even higher recording and playback quality. A 80 GB hard disk is standard, allowing approximately 119 hours of recording. The internal processor uses 64-bit precision (maximum 69 bit), delivering professional-level audio quality.

Korg's Session Drums; Your own personal studio drummer!
Create dynamic drum tracks quickly and easily with the D3200's totally new, built-in Session Drums feature. Using KORG’s exclusive Knob Matrix, simply twist the Group and Session knobs to choose the overall musical style, and use the Variation knob to select a pattern appropriate for your song. Breathe new life into your drum tracks by tweaking the Shuffle and Humanize knobs to produce subtle variations in the timing, accent, feel and volume of each drum hit. You can even customize the rhythm sounds themselves. With Session Drums, you can create and record your original drum tracks, without time-consuming programming and step-recording.

Sophisticated and versatile track editing tools
With a comprehensive suite of editing functions, you can perform advanced and non-destructive track editing without impairing the high-quality sound. In addition to auto and manual punch-in/out, the D3200 provides editing functions such as copy, erase, reverse, normalize and fade. Sophisticated editing functions such as time expansion/compression are also supported. In addition, a learning noise reduction feature removes unwanted ambient noise without impairing the original sound, further improving the quality of your sound. Undo/Redo allows up to sixteen prior recording and editing operations to be undone, letting you continue editing until you are satisfied. Four locate points allow pinpoint editing of your song.

Versatile input section to accommodate any live or studio situations
The D3200 can record up to twelve tracks at once, and there are plenty of inputs to go around. An even dozen of 1/4 inch balanced inputs are teamed with eight XLR inputs jacks featuring high-quality mic preamps and +48V phantom power. Each of the eight phantom power supplies can be switched on/off independently, so you can mix and match your favorite condenser and dynamic mics to get the job done. At home in the digital world, the D3200 also features optical S/P DIF ins and outs. For those private moments of inspiration, there's also a dedicated guitar jack so you can start recording immediately with a minimum of preparation. The large number of simultaneous recording tracks and the D3200’s wealth of inputs make it easy to record entire bands or even individually-mic’d drum sets.

Powerful automated mixer section; Professional features and flexibility
The D3200's mixer provides a total of 44 input channels (32 recorder channels and 12 sub-mixer channels). Recorder channels 1-24 are equipped with a versatile four-band EQ. Channels 25-32 provide a two-band shelving EQ, as does each of the 12 sub-mixer channels. For complete control of your sound, the master track features a separate four-band fully parametric EQ. Recording input channels and track playback channels feature separate EQs, so there’s no danger of applying duplicate EQ settings, as on some lesser recorders. This professional recording mixer offers a total of twelve buses (including two effect sends), giving you the flexibility to meet the needs of a wide range of situations. Fader, EQ, pan, and effect settings can be stored as a scene, and up to 100 scenes can be saved and automatically recalled for each song, providing sophisticated automation. In addition, Dynamic Automation records and plays back individual fader and pan movements in real time, providing the freedom you need for creative mixing. Mixer parameters can also be controlled via MIDI.

Enhanced graphic display teamed with an intuitive interface
As the new standard for affordable digital recording studios, the D3200 brings ease of operation to a new level, with a full complement of fresh innovations such as the unique Knob Matrix and Korg’s exclusive ClickPoint. The Knob Matrix provides 16 real-time control knobs laid out in a 4x4 arrangement that can be used simultaneously to edit a variety of parameters such as the Session Drums or the effect processors. It’s an extremely analog-feeling interface that’s far more natural than accessing a parameter and editing its numerical value. The 3-axis ClickPoint provides fingertip control that is much more immediate and satisfying than using a mouse or a track ball. ClickPoint can also be used as a jog/shuttle function when you're scrubbing through audio. The cursor keys and other panel keys efficiently access numerous shortcuts for the various modes. The 320 x 240 pixel four-level grayscale display uses immediately understandable icons and provides visual feedback of the many Knob Matrix functions.

High-quality effects deliver professional sounding results
The D3200’s multiple effect processors use 56-bit internal processing to provide the highest audio quality, and include many of the acclaimed REMS technology modeling effects. A total of eleven effects can be used at once; eight insert effects, two master effects applied to the master sends of each channel, and two final effects applied to the master L/R. You can instantly select from 128 effect programs created from 52 different effect algorithms. You can edit, create and store your own effect programs in the 128 user locations shared by the entire D3200, or in the 32 user effect program locations for each song.

Album CD Project and internal CD-RW takes your musical ideas to completion
The D3200's built-in CD-RW drive can be used to backup/restore songs and user data, to import WAV files, or to create finished audio CDs. When creating an audio CD, you can use the Album CD Project function to easily create a production-ready CD that specifies the song order and even the length of the gaps between songs. The internal hard drive can be partitioned so you can work on multiple album CD projects at once. The CD-RW can also be internally routed to the mixer inputs and used as a CD player.

    Computer friendly
The D3200 automatically allocates part of its internal hard disk as a PC (USB) drive. This area can be used to import/export WAV data between the D3200 and a computer DAW program via USB, and can also be used to load system data. D3200 user data transferred to your PC can be easily e-mailed or exchanged over the Internet. High-speed USB 2.0 is supported, so even large amounts of data can be transferred smoothly. In addition, back-up data created by other Korg D-series models can also be loaded. (Includes: D12, D16, D1200, D1600, D1200mkII, D1600mkII, D16XD and D32XD)

Subject:Very nice recorder with a couple of major issues
Quality: well made machine - looks and feels professional with the exception of the sliders (which are only "automated" on the display)
Features: Best feature has to be the sound - headphone jack should be in front of the machine (cable gets in the way). Session drums is pretty much worthless... KORG should drop them or at least add a bass section.
Ease of Use: Very complicated unless you are one who has training in a studio... a dvd tutorial would be very helpful.
Sound: Sound is great but it is very difficult to get the effects figured out...
Reliability: This is where KORG has issues... channel 2 constantly bled over to channel 1 - very, very frustrating. KORG was no help at all - but AMS MADE IT RIGHT - CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT AMS's CUSTOMER SERVICE... AMS TRULY DELIVERS!!!!!
Overall: Overall this is a very nice piece of gear, however, the write-up makes it appear that the sliders are motorized ("Automated") - the main reason I chose this model. Even though they are not "motorized" I would have loved to have kept this machine but I couldn't deal with the channel bleed issue. Returned it for a TASCAM 2488NEO - so far that is a great machine.

    Sound: sound is fantastic
Reliability: well only had it for a month nothing wrong yet
Overall: my only complaint is i want the armed track to play back so i can punch in and re-record parts i just cant figure it out but im sure if i put in a little more time on the machine ill get it.... other than that i think its awesome

    Overall: edgeedgeedgeedgeedge
    Reliability: edgeedgeedgeedgeedge
    Sound: edgeedgeedgeedgeedge
    Quality: edgeedgeedgeedgeedge
Subject:not bad but could be improved
Quality: The unit appears to be well made. I haven't found anything that does not work, although others who own it wrote they had trouble with the trim pots.
Features: The best feature of this product are 32 tracks for a low price, and a simple way to create a master track for CD burning. It needs motorized faders, a less convoluted way to sync up to external MIDI devices, a VGA interface, and dedicated effects for each channel.
Ease of Use: The biggest complaints I have are with the (very) limited effects processing, i.e., it's limited and it's convoluted to get the effects set up. Syncing to external MIDI is obtuse, because you have to involve the Sessions Drums to set a tempo. The learning curve is significantly steeper than my Fostex VF160EX, where doing the above is much simpler. The manual is adequate, but nothing great. The D3200 is not a difficult machine to learn to use, but it's not a piece of cake (like the Fostex) either.
Sound: The sound is excellent. Lots of depth, very clean and bright sounding.
Reliability: I've owned it two months, so I don't really know what's going to happen after I put another 200-300 hours on it.
Overall: The Korg D3200 is a nice effort from Korg, but I feel they've left out to many needed features on this machine. The need to leave crap like "Session Drums" out of it and put motorized faders and a VGA interface in. They also need to beef up the effects options. Yes, it will add to the price but at $1,800 - $2,100 they could add enough good features to compete with the Tascam and Yamaha machines in the same class. That, or create another model class, like a "D3200 Pro". Otherwise, the feature set offered is not worth paying another $400 for. If you don't need 32 tracks, look at something like a Fostex VF160EX.
Do you own this product?: I own it

    Overall: edgeedgeedgeedgeedge
    Reliability: edgeedgeedgeedgeedge
    Sound: edgeedgeedgeedgeedge
    Quality: edgeedgeedgeedgeedge
Subject:Great sound, but not for the beginner
Quality: It's generally solid as a rock... though the faders could be a bit smoother... and the OS is totally stable. I've had NO wierd freezes or crashes so far.
Features: 32 tracks for this kinda money? I think it's an outstanding value. First thing I'd change is the micro-screen. Those of us over 40 will have to wear our reading glasses to use it. Second thing is the whole MouseStick interface. While many aspects can be gotten to via shortcuts and pressing keys, there are some things that REQUIRE that ya push that little mousestick around until you get the 1/8" speck lined up and then push to click. I'd rather they'd made it a bit bigger and allowed it to be a bit more user-friendly. Some details (like not being able to auto-punch while in Sync mode) are flat-out annoying. The work-around is to put a stereo pair of the MIDI instruments to Ch 31 and 32, and turn off the sync for a bit, but I'd rather not have to. The drum kit is largely wasted, as it's just too much hassle to figure out how to use it. I'm STILL unable to set a different BMP and get the blasted thing to play while recording. If I didn't have MIDI & BFD, though...
Ease of Use: If you've never used this sort of gear before, this is NOT the machine to learn on. If you're familiar with recording studio techniques, with a patchbay-type routing, etc., then you'll be very pleased by the quality and features of this unit. I am glad I got it.
Sound: The sound is very clean, solid, and they've included features to remove background noises and digital pops, should they appear.
Reliability: SO far no complaints in that department... and they DID provide a firmware update that installed without a hitch.
Overall: I'm not sorry I bought it. Tracking to it is a lot more sure a bet than to either of my computer-based systems. I am sometimes frustrated by the interface (and I DO know what I'm doing with this kind of equipment) but in the overall it's solid, steady pro-quality gear with a ton of features that one wouldn't expect at this price.
