When choosing reference monitors for mixing and music production, accuracy is the prime consideration. Speakers that sound 'good' on first impression may not necessarily be accurate. What you really need is an honest reference for your mix, rather than monitors that have been tweaked or colored to deceptively sound impressive. The Yamaha HS series reference monitors have been created by Yamaha's studio monitor engineering team to deliver exceptionally flat, accurate response that you can trust. Unlike 'monitor' speakers with exaggerated bass and treble that make a good first impression but can't be relied on for accuracy, the HS series were designed to be true studio reference monitors in the tradition of the legendary Yamaha NS10M.
Whether you're mixing for stereo or 5.1 surround, mixes that sound good on Yamaha HS series reference monitors will translate accurately to the widest possible range of reproduction systems...which is engineer-speak that simply means they'll sound good on anything. And that is the ultimate goal of any reference monitor. We should also mention that the HS-series monitors not only sound great, they look great, too.

Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Extremely well made. Top quality craftsmanship, can stand up against any super high end monitor
Features
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
extremely flat response. I can easily pick apart frequencies in my mixes, and the low cut frequency for the bass is a great feature because one of my monitors is in the corner of the room and it acts as a built in bass trap.
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be?
plug and play. they have good instructions included. I dropped these suckers on my studio work station and they were booing right out of the box.
Sound
How is the tone?
they sound amazing. You will not get a better monitor for the money. I have cross compared these monitors against other 8" studio monitors like Alesis, Mackie, Event 20/20's, Genelec, and JBl, and they are as good if not more accurate than all in their class. I tested for months, read thousands of reviews and researched heavliy into my products, and i would up buying these.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I just bought them, but Yamahas are known as the staple in the industry for good reason, they last forever.
General
Your general opinion of this product.
Amazing. I highly recommend them to anyone. Any pro engineer will tell you, that you cannot get a better speaker at this price.
