Yamaha HS80M Powered Studio Monitor

The Yamaha HS80M
The new HS Series powered monitors were designed to be true studio reference monitors in the tradition of the famous NS10Ms. When choosing your next pair of near field reference monitors, remember it's not just important that they sound good; they have to be an honest reference for your mix. The new HS Series of reference monitors were designed to give you exceptionally flat response so you can really trust what you hear. That means that mixes that sound good on Yamaha HS speakers will sound good on anything. In fact, that's the ultimate test of a reference monitor. Even better than that, HS series speakers not only sound good, they look great, too

HS Series is a two-way, internally powered speaker system designed to provide affordable, high quality reference monitoring for all types of recording and multimedia applications – home studios, computer-based music production, gaming systems, keyboards rigs and personal computer systems. All products are sold and packaged individually, making it easy to build flexible monitor setups and 5.1 systems.

The 120 watt HS80M (8-in. cone and 1-in. dome tweeter) are housed in bass reflex-type cabinets, and reproduce surprisingly tight low end and smooth, high frequency response to beyond 20 kHz. Inputs include a balanced XLR and 1/4-in. phone jack. In addition to master level controls, each speaker has trim switches that allow you to custom-tailor low, mid and high frequency response for different applications.

On Stage SMS6000 Adjustable Studio Monitor Stands
Finally - a worthy home for your studio monitors! Now you have a stable, solid stand for the perfect placement of your studio monitors. The On Stage SMS6000 is height-adjustable from 36 to 52 inches and has a 9”-square top platform for speakers up to 100 lbs. Leveling spikes in the base let you compensate for an uneven floor surface and the whole base is remarkably stable. Other features include a safety pin in the vertical post and arc-welded, steel construction.

Yamaha HS 80M Features

  • 8-inch white polypropylene cone
  • 1-inch dome tweeter
  • 120-watt biamplified power
  • XLR and 1/4-inch connectors
  • Room control and frequency response switches

The HS10W powered subwoofer contains a long-stroke, 8-in. 120-watt woofer and bass reflex design cabinet that maintains high efficiency and low distortion. Connections include dual XLR and 1/4-in. inputs, and three balanced XLR outputs (Mix, L&R). Controls include master level, phase and low/high cutoff frequency. The HS10W complements the HS speakers, and easily handles today's bass-enhanced music or the most dramatic surround effects.

HS Series cabinets look as great as they sound. Enclosures are constructed of high-quality MDF material and a multiple layer finish that minimizes resonance. Design elements include a black finish and lighted Yamaha tuning fork logo. White polypropylene woofer cones recall the look of the classic Yamaha NS10M, and include low-damping rubber surrounds and full magnetic shielding.

Subject:The Yamaha HS 80M Reference monitors are tops in their price range.
Quality: In the tradition of the legendary NS-10, the HS-80M is preserving the legacy of the Yamaha line of near-field monitors.
Features: The sonic quality is un-surpassed in its price range.
Ease of Use: These speakers truly were "plug-n-play"! After unpacking, it only took about 10 minutes to hook them up to my Yamaha-01v. The manual was clear and consise, not a lot of wasted ink. I was very pleased with the clarity of the mix emanating throughout my studio.
Sound: Out of a possible 10 ranking I would rank the NS-80m as a definite 10+.
Reliability: If the longevity of these powered monitors is anything like the NS-10, they will continue to garner a large fan base.
Overall: I can't say enough about the quality of these speakers. I would recommend these to anyone desiring the best mastering in a minimum of time. This was a superlative package deal. American Musical created an even greater value by packaging the On-Stage monitor stands with the speakers. Thanks, American Musical!

Subject:Worth The Extra Cash!
Overall:

QUALITY:
Very well constructed, solid and fairly heavy for their size.

FEATURES:
This monitor has all the connections and Eq and room adjusts you would ever need. It has an 8 in. woofer which in MHO is mandatory for 2.0 monitoring. Plenty of power for critical monitoring. Besides, the glowing Yamaha log on the front is way cool in a dimly lit control room.

EASE OF USE:
Easy to set up and dial in using the many EQ and room adjustments.

VALUE:
A little on the expensive side for us poor musicians but I A/B'd many brands side by side in a reasonable price range of 400 to 800 and felt that this purchase would be one that I would be happy with for a long time without having to upgrade later. That makes these monitors a good value.

SOUND:
Very open and natural mid and high end with an un-hyped and tight low end. These monitors sounded more neutral and rich in A/B comparisons with other brands. Excellen
