Yamaha keyboards and digital pianos
Yamaha got its start making reed organs, which is essentially a piano that uses air to make sound. It’s only natural that Yamaha would eventually get into the piano market, which they did back in 1900! Yamaha pianos and digital keyboards have been regarded as some of the best in the industry ever since.
If you want a piano that feels like the real deal without taking up tons of space in your house, you might be interested in a digital piano. Yamaha digital pianos are packed with industry-leading technology, including weighted keys, different levels of attack, and multiple voicings — depending on the model. They’re also built with styling in mind, so not only do they feel and sound like a real piano, they look as good as one, too!
Yamaha also offers high-quality keyboards and travel keyboards that bring all the amazing features you’d expect in a keyboard to a gig-ready package. Whether you want a simple keyboard to get started or a professional-level synthesizer to create your next musical masterpiece, Yamaha has you covered.
And don’t forget to pick up a few music accessories like keyboard stands and pedals. Of course, Yamaha makes them too!
Yamaha drums and percussion equipment
Yamaha drum sets are so good they’ve literally won awards! So if you’re looking for either an acoustic or electric drum kit, it’s hard to go wrong with Yamaha.
Yamaha acoustic drum sets are built using Yamaha’s legendary manufacturing methods and premium materials to ensure the highest quality. Whether you want a simple shell kit or a full kit with hardware, you’ll be ready to keep beats and make noise in no time!
It’s not always easy to find space for a full-sized acoustic drum set. If you’re looking for something a bit more compact and desk-friendly, Yamaha’s selection of digital drums and drum pads bring realistic drum sounds (and more) to your desktop.
Yamaha also makes a wide assortment of drum accessories, including kick pedals, drum and cymbal stands, and even acoustic drum mic modules.
History of Yamaha
Yamaha began back in 1887 as the Nippon Gakki Co., Ltd. when a man named Torakusu Yamaha began repairing reed organs around Japan. It wasn’t long before he started manufacturing his own reed organs and officially incorporated his business in 1897. By 1900, Yamaha was producing his own pianos as well. The first piano ever built in Japan was built by Yamaha!
The iconic Yamaha logo is based on the early origins of the company, showcasing three interlocking tuning forks that Yamaha himself would have used repairing and building reed organs and pianos — long before digital tuners took over the world.
Yamaha continued to produce reed organs and pianos through the early 1900s. During World War II, Yamaha was focused on the war effort, lending their manufacturing lines to produce machinery. Following the war, Yamaha decided to use their newly found expertise in metallurgy to start producing motorcycles.
In 1954, they released their first line of 125cc motorcycles, called the YA-1 or the Akatombo. The “Red Dragonfly,” as they were called, were a big hit, causing the spinoff and founding of the Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. — which is now a separate independent company from the music manufacturer, though they still share a logo.
By the late 1900s, Yamaha had expanded their musical operations to include wind instruments, drums, guitars, stringed instruments, and even dabbled in the audio/visual computer realm. In 1983, Yamaha is credited with the creation of the first commercially successful digital synthesizer. Yamaha’s synth products are still regarded as some of the best in the industry!
Going into the 21st Century, Yamaha continued its expansion into the live sound and studio space with the production of PA speakers and mixers, along with acquiring other brands in the music software space.
Yamaha has also been a major influence for music education around the world. They first opened the Yamaha Music School back in the 1950s, and it’s still going strong today. Over 6 million students in 40 countries have learned the joy of music through Yamaha Music School lessons.
With their incredible wide-reaching product catalogue that touches nearly every aspect of musical production to their manufacturing and global distribution, there’s no doubt that Yamaha is the largest musical equipment manufacturer in the world today. Their centuries of innovation still show in all Yamaha musical instruments. If you’re ready to create and make music, there’s a piece of Yamaha equipment that can help!
