Product Description

The SG is one of Gibson’s most popular instruments, and given Gibson’s long and storied history, that’s really saying something. Since its inauspicious start in 1961 as a temporary replacement for the Les Paul, the SG has become a favorite of many iconic guitarists. Angus Young, Tony Iommi, Pete Townsend, Frank Zappa, and Derek Trucks have all chosen the SG to convey their artistry at some point in their careers (many exclusively), and it’s even the source of Eric Clapton’s legendary “Woman Tone” from his Cream era.

Gibson’s SG flagship, the Standard, is now available in a truly stunning Pelham Blue! This is a Limited Edition Exclusive Run available from American Musical Supply! Take advantage of the opportunity to own this classic instrument in a beautiful, unique finish.

  • Aluminum Tune-o-Matic bridge with steel thumbweels
  • Aluminum Stop Bar with steel post
  • Pickups perfectly matched to the spirit of their historic models and classic Gibson controls
  • Rolled binding over the frets
  • Polished 0.55 frets on top of our original 1.695” neck width and original Gibson Les Paul heel
  • Hand-selected and book matched solid maple top with historic flame grades
  • Historic plastics, knobs, hardware, truss rod cover and acrylic inlays
  • Historic Switchcraft toggle switch and multi-contact gold-plated jack
Body Design
The instantly recognizable and often-copied asymmetrical double-horned body provides complete access to the upper frets. The sleek and lightweight body is constructed of mahogany with a hand-selected, book-matched solid maple top and is coated in hi-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. The small teardrop pickguard is a very nice throwback to the early '60s SG Standard.

Slim-taper Neck Profile
Known for easy playability, this super-fast neck joins the body at the 21st fret, providing effortless upper-fret access. The scale length measures 24.75" and the thicker rosewood fingerboard comes adorned with white acrylic trapezoid inlays and beautiful rolled white binding. The headstock is angled at 17 degrees and features mother-of-pearl ‘Gibson’ and holly (crown) inlays.

Electronics
Powered by a Classic ’57 humbucker in the neck position and a ’57+ at the bridge, you’ll experience tone reminiscent of the revered PAF era pickups. Under the chrome covers you’ll find Alnico II magnets for authentic vintage ‘color’. Pickups are selected via a Switchcraft toggle switch leading to a multi-contact gold-plated output jack.

Hardware
From the chrome-covered aluminum stop tailpiece and classic Tune-o-matic bridge, to the 14:01 ratio locking Grover “kidney button” tuners, The SG Standard’s hardware provides timeless style with tried-and-true performance and durability.

Case
The 2017 LE Exclusive SG Standard ships complete with a classic Gibson hard shell case. Inside you’ll find a premium leather strap, a Gibson multi-tool, and a polishing cloth.

What is your opinion of this product?
Love this SG Standard in the limited edition Pelham Blue color. I think it's one of the best looking colors and looks great on the SG. The guitar arrived perfectly set up, nicely PLEK'd frets with low action. Super easy and comfortable to play. And SG suffers from rumors of "neck dive" - but I'm happy to report this SG was perfectly balanced - no neck dive at all.

Great guitar
What is your opinion of this product?
I’ve had this guitar almost a month and so far it has been great. The play-ability and sound are nothing short of excellent. The only thing I can’t quite figure out is that it’s sold as a 2017 model but the serial num. and the date on the pickups says 2018.

Quite possibly the BEST guitar I've ever played
What is your opinion of this product?
This guitar is the best feeling and playable guitar right out the box. The neck is like butta, it's so silky, smooth, and fast. I've played many high end guitars, and own a couple, and this probably tops them all! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it doesn't have a perfect paint job, and the neck wasn't perfectly shaped in the sanding process. This doesn't at all effect the playability, in fact I didn't realize it till recently and I've owned this guitar since the end of December/beginning of January. The only reason I haven't exchanged it is because I'm afraid I might not get the same feel and playability that this guitar has. I've never really thought about getting an SG in any other color than Heritage Cherry, and this wasn't my first choice when I was thinking of buying a new guitar, but I'm soooo glad that I did pick this beauty! Thanks to Gabe in customer service for all his help in the process of returning the broken LP that led me to this inspirational playing guitar.

Great axe for all styles of music
What is your opinion of this product?
This guitar is very comfortable to play. Neck is slightly wider than a strat but very comfortable. Easy to finger pick as well. Picture a Les Paul sound from the 57 humbbuckers. Mine goes great with my Twin, Blues Deluxe, Deluxe Reverb, Hot Rod Deluxe, Princeton and Champ amps but also goes well with my Vox AC15. My Playing is mostly clean and this fits the bill. I also like that it doesn't weigh a ton and is well balanced. Color is outstanding as well and the hard case is the topping on the cake. Buy one you won't be disappointed.

Not what I expected from Gibson
What is your opinion of this product?
Sounds good. Plays nice. The finish sucks. Can see woodgrain through the finish like it's thin or somthing.

Great guitar, Beautiful finish!
What is your opinion of this product?
The guitar was great, right out of the box (after I tuned it). The Pelham Blue finish is fantastic. I’ve played a lot of SGs, but this is the first one I’ve purchased and it is well worth it.

Great Guitar
What is your opinion of this product?
This guitar played great right out of the box. Fit and finish were not excellent (just ok), but who cares it sounds amazing through a Marshall combo amp.

Great deal!
What is your opinion of this product?
I really like everything about this guitar. The blue finish was done to show the open grain of the wood without looking open grained. Nice and glossy. Was set up and in tune out of the box which I find amazing in itself. There was a snapshot of my guitar on the techs workbench included. Nice action, lightweight but not too light. I like the locking tuners, I have never had them before but they seem easy enough to use. Got this about a week ago and cannot find anything that I don't like about the whole deal. $300 cheaper than a black or red standard in an exclusive LE color.
