The Taylor GS Mini is the go-to when it comes to smaller scale acoustics that still sound as good as a full-sized guitar. They have all the tone and projection of a standard Grand Auditorium acoustic but just a little smaller for playing on the couch or throwing in the car. The GS Mini comes in all sorts of different tonewoods and finishes, like this beautiful Koa model or colorful mahogany. Many even come with Taylor’s ES2 active electronics, so you can play through an amplifier.
Need something a bit smaller yet? The Baby Taylor might just be 3/4 the size of a standard Taylor acoustic, but it sounds just as big. It’s the perfect companion for campfires, front porch pickin’, or even players with smaller hands.

History of Taylor Guitars
The year was 1974. A young Bob Taylor (who was only 19) and Kurt Listug (only 21) were working at a guitar-making shop called American Dream. The owner of American Dream decided to sell the company, and the two employees pulled their money together to buy it.
The original name of the new company was called Westland Music Company, but the duo decided they needed a shorter and snappier name to fit on a headstock. Since Listug’s name didn’t sound very “American”, they decided to call the company Taylor.
Bob Taylor was the main builder for Taylor and developed many of the innovations that would take Taylor Guitars to the top. In 1999, Taylor released their patented bolt-on neck design that they called the NT (which stands for New Technology). Rather than the typical acoustic neck, Taylor’s NT necks had one continuous piece of wood that ran all the way to the 19th fret for more support of the fretboard. It also made getting the neck angles perfect super easy by using shims.
Taylor also has their own electronics system, called the “Expression System” — which is currently on its second generation. The ES 2 uses a custom Taylor preamp coupled with a piezo transducer that’s mounted to the side of the saddle for complete adjustability and increased dynamic range.
In 2011, Taylor hired master builder Andy Powers to lead the new guitar design efforts. Under his leadership, Taylor’s innovative V-Class bracing was released, which gave the guitars better volume and sustain by breaking away from the traditional X-bracing that had been used for over 100 years.
In 2019, Powers joined Taylor and Listug as a third ownership partner. However, it wasn’t long before the trio decided to transition the company into a completely employee-owned business. And by 2021, they achieved their goal. Today, Taylor Guitars is completely owned by its employees, ensuring those who make the incredible products have the most say in the direction of the business.
In addition to the transition to become 100% employee-owned, Taylor is also dedicated to sustainable material sourcing, including purchasing their own sustainable ebony mill! They even earned the Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE) from the U.S. State Department for their sustainable practices.
Today, Taylor is as dedicated as ever to bring expert craftsmanship and innovation to their guitar-building processes. Whether you’re a beginner looking for your first guitar or a seasoned professional looking for a top-of-the-line instrument, Taylor guitars are definitely some of the best in the business.
