History of Audio-Technica
In the early 1960s, a man named Hideo Matsushita was working as a curator in Tokyo’s Bridgestone Museum of Art. He had a fascination with audio and high-fidelity recordings and would often host listening events where he would play vinyl records on high-end gear to show everyone what a real listening experience felt like.
He became frustrated that high-fidelity equipment was so expensive, and it prevented people from hearing music the way it was meant to be heard. In 1962, Matsushita started a new business called Audio-Technica to bring high-fidelity audio products to the world.
The first products from Audio-Technica were stereo phono cartridges to improve the sound quality coming from turntables at an affordable price point. Sales of the AT-1 phono cartridge blew up, and Audio-Technica began to expand their offerings into more high-quality audio gear.
It wasn’t long before Audio-Technica released their first headphones, the AT-700 series, and their first microphones, the AT-800 series.
Over the decades, Audio-Technica continued to be at the forefront of technology and innovation.
