State-of-the-Art Components
Loaded with premium EV components, the ETX-18SP’s DVX3180A high-sensitivity, low distortion 18” woofer (with a Faraday ring), has a Frequency Range of 28 Hz – 180 Hz, giving you enough really deep lows to shake the room. High power handling capabilities combine with sturdy mechanical design to ensure long-term durability.
Power to the People
The Electro Voice ETX-18SP’s low distortion specs are due, in part, to its ability to produce a massive 1800W of power from its Class-D power amplifier and integrated FIR-Drive DSP - all combining to produce an impressive 135 dB peak SPL.
FIR-Drive Technology
A sophisticated loudspeaker correction and protection system, proprietary FIR-Drive Technology (Finite Impulse Response) brings together years of EV technology experience married to their complex DSP to improve loudspeaker performance and maximize their potential. The Advanced Peak Anticipation Limiter algorithms prevent excursion-related failures by “looking ahead” 15 samples, offering peak and thermal transducer protection while remaining transparent. Years in the making, EV engineers have continuously updated this technology through firmware, software and speaker preset updates.
The Enclosure
The cabinet is constructed of tour-grade 18 mm, 13-ply birch plywood for professional-grade performance, warm sound and strong projection. Coated with Electro Voice’s patented EVCoat and with the 16AWG powdercoated steel grill protecting the components, the ETX-18SP is built to withstand the rigors of the road. Convenient appointments include a threaded die-cast aluminum handles and combo pole cup, for use with the ETX full range speakers and removable castors. Pumping out an impressive peak of 135 db SPL, the compact size of 19” x 23” x 32” can be deceiving - this thing is a beast!
Back Panel
The sleek and clean back panel features a pair of balanced combination 1/4-inch TRS/XLR jacks suitable for signals from mixing consoles, instruments, or microphones, with a pair of XLR outputs available for linking to other powered speakers. DSP is controlled via a single knob while parameters (including adjustable Low Pass Frequency points of 80 Hz, 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 150 Hz) are viewed on a big, bright LCD screen.
Testing, Testing, One Two Three …
Electro Voice doesn’t just build great sounding speakers, they torture test them to ensure durability. It’s standard in the industry to subject speakers to pink noise abuse tests but EV goes much further, exposing their speakers to 1000 hours of real-world signal torment while pushing beyond full output. Electro Voice has been tougher on their speakers than you will ever be.
