The Michael Kelly Mod Shop 55 Fralin is a customized version of our top selling 1955 model. We start with a great 1955 in any available color and then customize it in our shop in Kentucky. With this Mod Shop version we add some great Lindy Fralin pickups and a great electronics mod to the 55's Swamp Ash body, Quilt Maple top, Flame Maple binding and comfortable Maple neck.
On the 1955 Fralin Mod we went we went with the most articulate humbucker we've ever heard in the bridge position, Fralin's Pure PAF. Absolutely no "mud" here, the Pure PAF provides fantastic note separation even when moderately overdriven. This pickup matches very well with the Fralin Mini Humbucker which we put in the neck position of the 1955 Mod. The Fralin Mini Humbucker is a dual coil hum-canceling pickup with the clarity and "rounder" high strings normally associated with a single coil pickup. Lindy Fralin suggested that we apply a "partial-tap" option rather than the traditional "coil-split" which cuts the output of one coil by 50% when activating the push-pull switch on either of the control knobs. This makes for less of an overall volume drop when splitting each pickup for a single coil tone.
