Ernie Ball invented the light-gauge electric guitar string. In the 1960s, they noticed players were already improvising lighter sets by swapping in banjo strings and turned that workaround into a proper product. That experiment became the Slinky, which became the world's best-selling electric guitar string. Ernie Ball strings now cover acoustic, classical, and bass in nearly every gauge, but the starting point is the same: made around how players want to play.
