Nice piece of equipment but not totally what I was looking for

fast shipment. very nice standalone drum machine and checks a few boxes. the only gripe is really with Akai and their horrible software and integration with anything besides Ableton. maybe a future update will fix it, but right now I can only give it 3 stars because of that.

Q: How many recording tracks are on the MPC XL and how many Midi recording tracks are in it as well? Can you connect an SATA drive in the back as the MPC Key 61 for external storage upgrade?

A: 16 simultaneous audio recording tracks and 128 MIDI tracks per sequence in standalone mode. Yes, you can connect an internal SATA drive for storage expansion, but like the MPC Key 61 and MPC X, the SATA bay compartment door is located on the bottom of the unit rather than the back.
