    Alvarez MD70 Masterworks Herringbone Dreadnought

If vintage tone had an address, you'd find it inside the Alvarez MD70 Masterworks Herringbone Dreadnought.

This market-leading, all-solid acoustic combines the booming heritage of a classic bluegrass dreadnought with modern dynamics. It's a cannon of an instrument for flatpickers and heavy strummers, delivering powerful projection and sweet harmonics without breaking the bank.

Alvarez MD70 Masterworks Herringbone Dreadnought All-Solid Sonic Artillery

    All-Solid Sonic Artillery

To build a cannon, you need the right materials. Alvarez didn't cut corners; they went straight for the top shelf. The all-solid wood construction pushes massive volume and shimmering overtones, creating a sonic profile that hits your chest the moment your pick strikes the strings. This guitar delivers that golden-era dreadnought punch with absolute authority.

    • Solid AAA Sitka Spruce Top: Think of this as the guitar's powerful vocal cords. Alvarez hand-selects and independently grades each top, cutting it slightly thinner to maximize vibration. Giving you crystal-clear articulation and a lightning-fast response that keeps up with even the most aggressive picking.
    • Solid East Indian Rosewood Back & Sides: The perfect partner to spruce, solid rosewood provides the deep, resonant bass and sparkling treble that create a lush, complex tonal landscape. It’s what makes your open chords boom with authority.
    • ATR Torrefaction: Want a new guitar that sounds like a vintage classic? Just bake it. Alvarez’s Advanced Tonal Response (ATR) process uses a specialized torrefaction method to age the wood, removing moisture and impurities. The result is the open, resonant voice of a perfectly broken-in instrument, straight out of the box.

    Playability That Pushes You Forward

Tone is only half the battle; a guitar’s feel determines how much you'll want to play it. Alvarez engineered the MD70 to be an effortless companion for the long haul, giving you mechanical advantages that make complex chords and blazing-fast runs feel like second nature.

    • Forward-Shifted FS6 Bracing: This scalloped X-bracing pattern moves the central axis closer to the soundhole, which opens up a larger vibrating area on the soundboard. The result? Tons of low-end power that still maintains pristine note separation, so your lightning-fast bluegrass licks will never sound muddy.
    • Bi-Level Bridge: This smart design upgrade significantly increases string tension and downward pressure by steepening the break angle over the real bone saddle. You'll immediately notice a punchier, more tactile response and a massive boost in sustain.
    • Soft "V" to "C" Mahogany Neck: Crafted to fit your hand like a glove, this neck profile provides a solid anchor for cowboy chords down low, then slims out for comfortable, speedy lead playing up the East Indian Rosewood fingerboard.

Alvarez MD70 Masterworks Herringbone Dreadnought Dressed to Impress the Purists

    Dressed to Impress the Purists

A high-caliber instrument shouldn't just sound like a million bucks; it should look the part, too. The MD70 brings the vintage swagger, decked out in classic appointments that tip their hat to the golden age of acoustic luthiery while retaining a crisp, modern build quality.

    • Classic Herringbone Purfling: The body is wrapped in stunning herringbone binding, an aesthetic nod to historical dreadnoughts that frames the premium spruce top with timeless style.
    • Vintage-Style Open-Gear Tuners: These nickel tuners provide rock-solid pitch stability, and their exposed gears add a serious dose of old-school charm to the headstock.
    • Flawless Gloss Finish: The body is coated in a breathtaking natural gloss that highlights the rich grain of the rosewood, all protected by a handsome tortoiseshell-style pickguard.

    Masterful Acoustic Craftsmanship

The Alvarez MD70 Masterworks embodies the powerful sound of legendary vintage dreadnoughts yet delivers the steadfast reliability of a modern instrument. It’s a bold, booming acoustic designed for players who demand power, tonal complexity, and effortless playability in one guitar.

    INCREDIBLE !!! JUST INCREDIBLE !!!

This is a great BLUEGRASS guitar !... I mean GREAT !!.. I have the MD60BG as well, but I like the tone of this a little better. I have the Martin Special 16 and 35, and this compares to them. The Alvarez has a more gentle bass sound, but still loud and clean. The Martin 16 takes better to hard play,...
