Gibson Custom 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cut Reissue VOS

The Gibson Custom 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cut Reissue VOS may be a lot to say but playing it will leave you speechless. More than a tribute to a classic era, it’s like holding a piece of history in your hands.

While the original Les Paul Specials were designed as student models, they quickly graduated to the main stage thanks to their no-nonsense attitude and raw power. This reissue captures the exact moment in 1960 when the model hit its stride, offering a structural and visual clone of the vintage icons without the need for a second mortgage to acquire one.

GIB LPSPDC60VO Soapbar Pickups with a Gritty Soul

Soapbar Pickups with a Gritty Soul

At the heart of this beast lies a pair of P-90 pickups, affectionately known as "soapbars" because of their shape — though they certainly won’t clean up your act. These pickups are famous for being the unruly middle child between polite single-coils and compressed humbuckers. They offer a sonic versatility that can go from a whisper to a scream faster than you can crank your volume knob.

  • Custom Soapbar P-90s: These pickups deliver a midrange growl and treble bite that cuts through a mix like a hot knife through butter, perfect for everything from jazz to punk.
  • Dynamic Versatility: Roll back the volume for sparkling, bell-like cleans, or push your amp into overdrive for that legendary, thick, "crunchy" distortion the model is famous for.
  • Raw Tonal Character: Unlike modern pickups that can sound overly polished, these retain the raw, unrefined character that defined the sound of rock and roll in the 60s and 70s.

1960: A Great Year for Necks

While the Special got a makeover in 1958, it took until 1960 for the design to truly find its groove. This reissue features the specific adjustments made that year that turned a good guitar into a great one. The pickup placement was lowered for a sweeter tonal response, and the neck profile was slimmed down, making it less like holding a baseball bat and more like shaking hands with an old friend.

  • 1960 Slim Taper Neck: The fast, comfortable profile allows for hours of playing without hand fatigue, ideal for intricate chord work or lightning-fast solos.
  • Double Cutaway Body: The symmetrical double horns aren't just for looks; they provide unrestricted access to the highest frets, so you can wail away on those high E bends without hitting a wall.
  • Robust Construction: The neck tenon and body join are rock-solid, providing superior resonance and sustain that you can feel vibrating against your ribs when you strum.

GIB LPSPDC60VO Meticulous Attention to Detail

Meticulous Attention to Detail

The folks at the Gibson Custom Shop must have used microscopes when building this one. Every contour, screw, and shade of paint has been scrutinized to ensure this guitar doesn't just look like a 1960 Special — it feels and sounds like one, too. Finished in a Vintage Original Sheen (VOS), it has the gently worn-in look of a well-loved instrument right out of the case, skipping the "shiny new guitar" phase entirely.

  • Vintage Accuracy: Built with hide glue and chemically recreated plastic parts, this guitar is a faithful replica of the original 1960 models.
  • Authentic Finishes: Offered in historically accurate Cherry Red and TV Yellow — a color originally created to stand out on black-and-white TVs.
  • Period-Correct Hardware: The wraparound tailpiece and button tuners aren’t just for show — they deliver the precise string tension and tuning stability that define the guitar’s distinctive feel.

Experience the Special Treatment

The Gibson Custom 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cut Reissue VOS is more than just wood and strings — it’s proof that some things really were built better in the past. Whether you’re inspired by the legends of guitar history or creating your own unique sound, this instrument is ready to handle anything you throw at it. It’s a bold, fiery, and endlessly fun workhorse that shows you don’t need flashy extras to make a lasting impression.

I purchased the tv yellow

I purchased the tv yellow 1960 dc special ri…. The neck is great, build is what I expect from Gibson Custom and the pickups are AMAZING. I get sound and push of an articulate strat pickup and with change of a knob and attack it has amazing paf vibes. One of the most resonant guitars I’ve ever owned....
