First introduced in 1960, the Hummingbird quickly became one of Gibson’s most recognizable acoustic designs, celebrated for its distinctive appearance, rich tonal character, and powerful versatility. The Hummingbird Original blends vintage appointments with today’s modern, high-quality build construction, now enhanced with the new Gibson-exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA electronics.
Crafted with a square-shoulder dreadnought body, the Hummingbird Original features a solid Sitka spruce top with mahogany back and sides, delivering a rich, balanced voice with warm low end, smooth mids, and impressive projection. Traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing enhances the guitar’s natural resonance and dynamic response.
The mahogany neck features a comfortable Rounded profile and is joined to the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint. The rosewood fingerboard features 20 standard frets and distinctive mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays. A bone nut and traditional belly-up bridge with a bone saddle provide a solid foundation for the Hummingbird’s rich acoustic voice.
