The J-45 stands as Gibson’s most popular acoustic guitar and one of the most recognizable models in the brand’s history. First introduced in 1942 and affectionately known as “The Workhorse,” it remains the benchmark for Gibson’s round-shoulder dreadnought acoustics. The J-45 Standard Rosewood builds on that legacy, delivering the signature playability and balanced sound players expect while adding the richer low-end response and enhanced harmonic depth that rosewood back and sides provide. The result is a distinctive voice that complements the J-45 tradition. It now also features the Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs HiFi DNA pickup system, faithfully reproducing the guitar’s natural acoustic character and the subtle dynamics of every performance when amplified.
Built with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid rosewood back and sides, the J-45 Standard Rosewood pairs classic construction with refined tonal versatility. Scalloped X-bracing helps maximize resonance and responsiveness, while multi-ply top binding and single-ply back binding provide traditional visual appointments. A gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish highlights the beauty of the darker tonewoods and gives the instrument a distinctive appearance.
The mahogany neck is shaped with Gibson’s comfortable SlimTaper profile for an effortless playing experience and is joined to the body with a compound dovetail neck joint secured using hot hide glue. An Indian rosewood fretboard features a 12-inch radius, 20 standard frets, and mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The headstock is adorned with a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and fitted with gold Grover Rotomatic tuning machines. Combined with a TUSQ nut, the hardware package delivers dependable tuning stability and smooth, precise operation.
