The legacy of Gibson’s “King of the Flat-Tops” lives on in the SJ-200 60s Original. From its inaugural appearance in 1937, the Gibson SJ-200 set an unmatched standard. The SJ-200 60s Original continues the legacy of one of the world’s most famous and popular acoustic guitars, replicating the SJ-200 as it appeared in the 1960s, a time when the model could be found in the hands of such noteworthy players as Pete Townshend, Bob Dylan, and George Harrison, among others. This is the SJ-200 as used on some of the most legendary songs and albums ever recorded.
The SJ-200 60s Original features an AAA figured maple body with a distinctive checkerboard marquetry strip down the center of the back, paired with a solid AAA Sitka spruce top. The maple body delivers the bold projection, clarity, and tonal definition that have made the SJ-200 legendary, while traditional scalloped X-bracing enhances the guitar’s natural resonance and dynamic response.
The two-piece maple neck features a walnut stringer and a comfortable Round profile. A narrower 1.687" nut width, as found on SJ-200 guitars from the 1960s, makes first-position chords easier to play while giving the guitar a distinctive vintage feel.
The rosewood fingerboard features 20 standard frets and classic mother-of-pearl graduated crown inlays, one of the visual hallmarks of the SJ-200. The no-border SJ-200 pickguard features instantly recognizable and iconic graphics, while the solid rosewood Moustache bridge is adorned with mother-of-pearl hourglass and teardrop inlays.
