Since its debut in 1937, the SJ-200 has stood as one of the most influential and recognizable acoustic guitars ever made. The SJ-200 60s Original celebrates that storied history by recreating the model as it appeared during the 1960s, when it was favored by legendary musicians including Pete Townshend, Bob Dylan, and George Harrison. Representing the same style of SJ-200 heard on countless classic recordings, it now features the Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs HiFi DNA pickup system, faithfully capturing the instrument's powerful acoustic character and the subtle details of every performance when plugged in.
Crafted with AAA figured maple back and sides, accented by a checkerboard marquetry center strip, the SJ-200 60s Original pairs its striking body with a solid AAA Sitka spruce top supported by traditional scalloped X-bracing. Available in distinctive 60s-inspired nitrocellulose lacquer finishes, it features a two-piece maple neck with a walnut stringer and a comfortable Round profile. A period-correct 1.687-inch nut width mirrors examples from the era and provides a familiar feel that makes first-position chord work especially comfortable. The rosewood fretboard is fitted with 20 standard frets and adorned with the SJ-200’s signature mother-of-pearl graduated crown inlays.
The guitar’s no-border pickguard showcases the model’s unmistakable artwork, while the solid rosewood Moustache bridge is highlighted with mother-of-pearl hourglass and teardrop inlays. Reflecting the preferences of many contemporary players, Gibson has equipped the SJ-200 60s Original with a bone saddle in place of a Tune-O-Matic bridge.
