Rosewood Returns to the King of the Flat-Tops
The Gibson SJ-200 is the world’s most famous acoustic guitar and well deserves its designation as the “King of the Flat-Tops.” Often made with maple back and sides, some of the earliest SJ-200 examples were instead made with rosewood bodies. The SJ-200 Standard Rosewood brings this historically significant tonewood combination back to one of Gibson’s most acclaimed and cherished acoustic guitars.
The SJ-200 Standard Rosewood features a solid Sitka spruce top paired with solid rosewood back and sides, delivering the bold projection and powerful response expected from a Super Jumbo while adding greater depth, fuller low end, and increased harmonic complexity. Traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing enhances the guitar’s natural resonance and dynamic response, allowing the rosewood body to deliver a rich, articulate voice with exceptional sustain and tonal depth.
The mahogany neck features a comfortable Rounded profile and is attached to the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint using hot hide glue. The Indian rosewood fingerboard features 20 standard frets and distinctive mother-of-pearl graduated crown inlays. A TUSQ nut and saddle provide a solid foundation for the guitar’s powerful voice and contribute to its clear articulation and sustain.
The SJ-200 Standard Rosewood features the instantly recognizable two-bar Moustache bridge, crafted from rosewood and fitted with TUSQ bridge pins.
