Originally introduced in the late 1990s, the Gibson Songwriter brought a distinctive square-shoulder modern dreadnought body shape to the Gibson acoustic lineup. The Songwriter Recording Artist combines the tonal benefits of Gibson’s renowned 1930s-era scalloped Advanced X-bracing, a 25.5" scale length, and a tonewood combination inspired by the legendary 1936 Advanced Jumbo, delivering a voice that is rich, powerful, and unmistakably Gibson. Designed with serious recording artists and performing musicians in mind, it offers the responsiveness, projection, and dynamic range that professional players demand.
Handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, the Songwriter Recording Artist features a thermally aged Sitka spruce top paired with rosewood back and sides. Its 25.5" scale mahogany neck features a comfortable Round profile and is topped with a bound ebony fingerboard carrying 20 standard frets and elegant mother-of-pearl diamond eye inlays. A compound dovetail neck joint, secured with hot hide glue, helps maximize stability and tonal transfer between the neck and body. The bound headstock is faced with rosewood veneer and adorned with a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and crown inlay. Premium appointments include a bone nut, gold Grover® open-back tuning machines, an ebony bridge fitted with a bone saddle and TUSQ® bridge pins, and mother-of-pearl arrow inlays. A custom line tortoise pickguard protects the top, while a wide abalone rosette adds an eye-catching finishing touch.
