The Southern Jumbo is renowned for its proficiency to belt out country rhythms or acoustic blues leads. Original examples are among the most prized war-era flat-tops in today’s vintage market. This Southern Jumbo Original picks up where those classic models left off, combining timeless Gibson tone and craftsmanship with the stage-ready performance of the new Gibson-exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA electronics.
Crafted with a round-shoulder dreadnought body, the Southern Jumbo Original features a solid Sitka spruce top with mahogany back and sides, delivering the rich, balanced tone, warm low end, and powerful projection that have made Gibson acoustics legendary. Traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing enhances the guitar’s natural resonance and dynamic response.
Classic Southern Jumbo detailing includes parallelogram inlays, double antiqued multi-ply top and back binding, and nickel open-back tuners. The mahogany neck features a comfortable SlimTaper profile and is joined to the body with a compound dovetail joint and hot hide glue, enhancing sustain and resonance.
The rosewood fingerboard features 20 standard frets and distinctive mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays. A bone nut and traditional belly-up bridge with a bone saddle provide a solid foundation for the guitar’s tone and feel, while a 50's tortoise pickguard and gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish complete the unmistakable Southern Jumbo look.

This active design utilizes two lightweight sensors mounted to the internal bridge plate, each paired with its own optimized preamp.
