Using the Ibanez RGA as a foundation, Ibanez has designed the iconic JBM27 which has a tight and aggressive tone. Just as each new Periphery release seems to morph progressive metal another 180 degrees, Jake Bowen, the source of the band’s rich tapestry of guitar-based ambient soundscapes, has also moved the boundaries of guitar design and performance.

Ibanez Jake Bowen JBM27 Signature Electric Guitar Features
    • 3-piece Maple “Wizard II-7” neck
    • Maple top/Layered Maple & Nyatoh body
    • Indian rosewood fretboard with JBM special inlay
    • Jumbo frets
    • Black and Gold hardware
    • Factory Tuning Drop-G#
The JBM27’s 3-piece Maple Wizard II-7 neck for smooth access to the upper frets and increased sustain. The JBM27 features a Layered Maple & Nyatoh body with a maple top, and a bound Indian rosewood fretboard with jumbo frets that bears Jake’s own custom inlay at the 12th fret. Then add a reverse headstock for yet another element of visual distinction.

Given the stress a Periphery show can exert on his instrument, having a trem system that is both easily adjustable and highly stable was critical for Bowen. Jake chose the Ibanez Edge Zero II-7 bridge—not only for its inspiring, reliable performance, but also for the way it stays clear of his picking hand. Gotoh MG-T locking machine heads help provide superior tuning stability and expedite string changes.

The JBM27 also features Bowen’s signature DiMarzio Titan 7 pickups, which DiMarzio developed under Jake’s close direction. Bowen describes them as, “the perfect combination of tight and aggressive.” The JBM27 ships tuned to drop-G# (1D#, 2A#, 3F#, 4C#, 5G#, 6D#, 7G#).

Great Guitar - But you will need to set it up

So these guitars are great but... they absolutely need a setup. The action was really high, and it turns out the term mounting plate was screwed all the way in. You will need some extra term springs (I put 5 in, instead of the standard 3 it comes with)... and then adjust. Once I was done it was grea...

Typical Locking Trem Pain but dang is it fun.

I HATE tremolos but once it’s balanced it’s so fun and you can just riff away. I decided to jump from LPs to shredders cause the necks are faster. I compared it to my detuned LP which has tone for days and it’s right there with it. Kudos to Jake and Ibanez I think I’ll get a trem locker so I can hav...

Complete metal/djent package with surprisingly clear pickups.

This guitars Dynamics are so insane! The lows sound crisp and refined, the highs have a warm sense of clarity all on a fat fretboard you will get lost in. And that's a good thing. I have been playing Periphery to Polyphia with just a pickup position change. Double locking tuners with a whammy? Like ...

Deep tones and surprisingly clear attack.

The bulk of the 7’s I’ve tested using Drop G tuning were just too muddy to really be of any real use but the JBM27 screams with deep lows and tight attack. This is a solidly built guitar with great sound and lightening fast playability. Highly recommend.
