The Kawai CA401 is what happens when a concert grand piano and a digital instrument sit down and have a very productive conversation. It brings the premium Concert Artist experience into a more accessible package — without cutting corners where it counts. Grand Feel Compact wooden-key action, the brand-new SK-EX Competition Grand piano sounds, and seamless Bluetooth connectivity make the CA401 the kind of digital piano that earns its place in your living room and your practice routine.
The Most Realistic Keys You'll Find at This Price
Most digital pianos offer keyboard action that ranges from "passable" to "why does this feel like I'm typing an email?" The CA401 is a different story. Its Grand Feel Compact wooden-key action delivers the weight, responsiveness, and nuance of a real acoustic piano — so your technique develops the way it should, not in spite of the instrument you're practicing on.
Grand Feel Compact Wooden-Key Action: Real wood keys with Ivory Touch surfaces, triple sensors, and let-off simulation recreate the subtle mechanical feel of an acoustic grand, giving your fingers the kind of honest feedback that shapes proper technique over time.
Grand Feel Pedal System: The damper, soft, and sostenuto pedals are individually weighted to match the exact feel of a Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand, so your pedaling technique actually transfers to acoustic instruments without any unlearning required.
Counterweights & Triple Sensor Technology: Each key is balanced and tracked with precision, ensuring accurate, consistent registration no matter how fast or expressive your playing gets.
Concert Grand Sound Without the Concert Grand Price Tag
The CA401's audio engine doesn't mess around. Kawai's Progressive Harmonic Imaging technology samples all 88 keys of a real concert grand — meaning every note you play is drawn from an actual recording of that specific key, not a stretched approximation of one nearby. The results speak for themselves, and they sound considerably better than the piano your neighbor bought in 1987.
SK-EX Competition Grand Piano Samples: Brand-new recordings of Kawai's flagship Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand bring world-class tone to your home, with breathtaking dynamic range and nuance that rewards expressive playing.
Progressive Harmonic Imaging with 88-Key Sampling: Every key is individually recorded, so the tonal character shifts naturally across the keyboard the way it does on a real acoustic piano — no awkward tonal gaps, no stretched samples.
Spatial Headphone Sound: Late-night practice sessions don't have to sound flat and lifeless. Kawai's Spatial Headphone Sound technology creates a convincing, three-dimensional listening experience through headphones that genuinely surprises first-time listeners.
Built-In Features to Help You Practice
A great-sounding, great-feeling piano is only half the equation. The CA401 also comes loaded with practical tools that support genuine musical growth — whether you're a beginner working through your first etudes or an experienced player looking for a versatile instrument that keeps up with your ambitions.
Bluetooth MIDI & Audio Connectivity: Pair wirelessly with your phone or tablet to run music apps, stream audio through the CA401's speaker system, or control the instrument through Kawai's PianoRemote app — no cables, no clutter, no excuses not to practice.
Built-In Lesson Function: Classical etudes from Czerny, Burgmüller, Chopin, and Beyer — plus Alfred's Basic Piano course books — are built right in, with separate hand practice modes and an adjustable metronome to help you nail the tricky bits.
Additional Voices & Playing Modes: Beyond the acoustic piano sounds, the CA401 offers electric pianos, organs, strings, choirs, and synth pads, along with Dual and Four Hands modes that make it just as practical for teaching as it is for performing.
The Kawai CA401: Worth Every Key
The CA401 isn't trying to be everything to everyone — it's trying to be the best digital piano it can be at its price point, and it succeeds. Real wooden keys, 88-key sampled concert grand audio, Bluetooth connectivity, and a genuine suite of learning tools make this an instrument serious pianists can grow with for years. If you've been searching for a digital piano that respects both your technique and your budget, the CA401 makes a very compelling case for itself.
