The Marshall stack is a rock and roll legend, but let’s face it — your neighbors won’t love a 100-watt amp shaking their walls. That’s where the Marshall DSL20HR comes in.
This isn’t a watered-down practice amp; it’s a full-fledged, all-tube head with a manageable 20 watts of power. Delivering the iconic DSL tone in a compact format, it’s the perfect amp for transitioning from bedroom practice to studio sessions or live performances, all while preserving that classic British crunch.
From Sparkle to Spite
The DSL20HR is driven by three ECC83 preamp tubes and two EL34 power tubes, delivering the genuine warmth and dynamic response that only valves can provide — no digital imitation here. Its versatility is its strength, effortlessly switching from smooth, melodic tones to raw, high-energy sound with the press of a footswitch.
Classic and Ultra Gain Channels: Switch between two foot-controlled channels to explore the full spectrum of rock tones. The Classic Gain channel delivers everything from sparkling cleans to the gritty crunch of 70s rock, while the Ultra Gain channel offers high saturation for modern metal and soaring leads.
3-Band EQ with Tone Shift: Shape your sound with Bass, Middle, and Treble controls, plus a Tone Shift button that adjusts mid-range frequencies. Scoop the mids for modern metal riffs or boost them for a classic bluesy tone.
Resonance and Presence Controls: The DSL20HR gives you command over the power amp's response. Dial in the Resonance for a tight, thumping bass that you can feel, and adjust the Presence to slice through the mix with precision.
Tame the Beast
Tube amps often need to be pushed to extremely high volumes before delivering their best tone — a frustrating dilemma if you value both great sound and your hearing. Marshall has solved this with smart power management that preserves your tone. Now, you can push those EL34s into rich, dynamic breakup without risking your hearing — or your lease.
Adjustable Power Output: High and low power settings let you drop the output from a gig-ready 20 watts down to a bedroom-friendly 10 watts. Unlike simple volume attenuators that kill your tone, this alters the power to the valves, ensuring the amp stays articulate and dynamic even at whisper volumes.
Studio-Grade Reverb: Sometimes a dry signal feels a little too clinical. The built-in digital reverb allows you to add lush ambience and depth to your playing, moving your tone from a cramped closet to a cavernous hall without needing extra pedals.
Series FX Loop: If you love your delay and modulation pedals, you don't want them getting muddied up in front of a distorted amp. The rear-panel effects loop lets you insert your time-based effects after the preamp section, keeping your repeats crystal clear even when the gain is dimed.
The Studio Secret Weapon
Marshall teamed up with the audio wizards at Softube to ensure that going direct doesn't sound like a swarm of angry bees. Whether you are tracking late at night or need a consistent feed for the front-of-house engineer, this head has the tech to handle it.
Softube Emulated Output: This is the ace up the sleeve. The line out features an incredibly accurate emulation of a high-quality, mic'd up 1960 cabinet. You get the air, the wood, and the thump of a 4x12 cab sent directly to your interface or PA system.
Silent Recording Mode: Want to record late at night? No problem. Disconnect the speaker cabinet and use the emulated output for silent recording or headphone practice, delivering full-quality tone without any noise in the room.
Audio Input: Practicing scales can get dull, but jamming is exciting. The 3.5mm aux input lets you connect your phone or laptop, so you can play along with your favorite tracks and turn practice into a full-band experience.
Is This Amp Headed for Your Rig?
The Marshall DSL20HR offers professional, tube-driven tone without the need for bulky gear. It perfectly balances the classic power of a vintage valve amp with the modern connectivity today's musicians demand. Whether you're inspired by rock legends or creating your own unique sound, this amp delivers exceptional performance.

Sounds killer for rock and
Sounds killer for rock and metal, and the clean channel is good too. If you turn up the gain on the clean channel and hit it with a good k or ts style boost you can get close to the “classic” Marshall tones. All around awesome amp. Deceptively loud, mine lives on 10 watt mode. As always, AMS is the ...

Want an affordable tube amp head? Buy this one.
Bought this amp back in 2021 and its been my go to since. Gigged a bunch with it in the last year and it gets great tones and doesn't skimp out on volume being 20 watts, it gets LOUD. Use a bunch of pedals like i do, great for that as well. One of my favorite amp heads at this price.

Awesome amp head. The DSL
Awesome amp head. The DSL is actually very versatile once you ditch the stock tubes. I loaded mine with Mullard's and it changed the tone entirely. Smoothed everything out and made it sound way more Marshall-y. Would totally recommend!

Killer head
For a little amp head, this thing rocks! Doesn’t take up much room and it’s loud. The tones you get are outstanding and the price is right. If you’re looking to just have fun at home this is the head for you. Thank you AMS as always for your plans to make owning your dream gear a reality.
