The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special is a unique offering in the growing PRS SE Series. With a swamp ash body and 22-fret maple neck with maple fretboard, the SE Swamp Ash Special is a fresh face and versatile voice.
The 85/15 “S” pickups flank a PRS-Designed AS-01 Single Coil “S” pickup in the middle position. The AS-01 Single Coil features both alnico and steel (hence the name), which adds mass to the pickups helping to create a powerful sound. Paired with a push/pull tone control and 5-way pickup switch, this pickup/electronics package gives players an array of sounds to enjoy, and the addition of PRS’s patented tremolo adds a touch more versatility. The overall tone of the PRS SE Swamp Ash Special offers tight lowend, bright but mellow high-end, and a welcome twangy tone that can reach “hot country,” blues, and even jazz territory.
Warranty: Limited Lifetime on Instruments; 5 Years on Amplifiers; 90 Days on Tubes; 1 Year on Speakers

5-Way ready to rock. Different than the 3-way
I have both the 3-way and the 5-way version of this heavy guitar. It's wonderfully smooth to play. The range of tones is phenomenal. And, if you have the 3-way already it's worth buying because it's got it's own character. They only sound alike with the bridge pickup setting. Otherwise, it's differe...

Q: What's the major difference in tone between the 3 way and 5 way?
Answers on Content by By AMS Customer Service on Fri May 29 2026
A: 5 way toggle switches provide five distinct pickup combinations on three-pickup guitars: neck only, neck and middle, middle only, middle and bridge, and bridge only. This is two more combinations than 3 way toggle switches. The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special Guitar with Gigbag has a 5 way switch.
