    Sequential Prophet-5 Analog Synthesizer Keyboard

The Prophet-5 is the synth that left its competition speechless. Originally designed by Dave Smith in 1978, it defined the sound of pop, rock, and film scores for decades — and now it's back, rebuilt from the ground up with zero corners cut.

It's a fully analog polysynth that preserves everything that made the original legendary, while adding the reliability and expressiveness that modern players actually need. Warm, organic, and strikingly beautiful in sustainable black walnut heartwood — the new Prophet-5 sounds like history and plays like the future.

The Sound That Changed Everything — Twice

At the heart of every great synth is a filter, and the Prophet-5 has the nerve to offer you two of the best ever made. Dave Smith went back to the original hardware sources and redesigned the electronics from scratch, because if you're going to revive a legend, you might as well do it right.

    • Genuine Curtis VCOs and Filters (Rev3): The same analog oscillators and filters that defined the Rev3 version are here in full, giving you that warm, muscular tone that engineers have been chasing on recordings for over 40 years.
    • New 2140 Low-Pass Filters (Rev1/Rev2): Designed by Dave Rossum — the man behind the original — these filters bring back the rarer, slightly unpredictable magic of the earliest Prophet-5 revisions, now reliably accessible via a simple Rev switch.
    • The Vintage Knob: This single control dials in the natural, voice-to-voice variation that made vintage hardware sound so alive. Crank it toward "1" for gloriously unstable vintage chaos, or keep it near "4" for modern precision — your call.

Modulation, Expression, and a Few Modern Upgrades

Poly Mod is back in full force, and it's just as wonderfully weird as you remember. The Prophet-5 gives you direct hands-on control over its modulation architecture without hiding anything behind menus or submenus — because great synthesis shouldn't require a user manual the size of a novel. A few thoughtful modern additions round things out without messing with the original DNA.

    • Poly Mod with Classic Routing: Filter Envelope and Oscillator B serve as mod sources, with destinations including Oscillator A frequency, pulse width, and the low-pass filter. Simple on paper, staggeringly powerful in practice — the range of sounds this thing can produce is genuinely hard to believe.
    • Enhanced Unison Mode with Chord Memory: Stack up to five voices in Unison with variable detuning and chord memory for playing massive, fat leads or locked-in chordal textures. Glide now works both in and out of Unison, which earlier versions definitely cannot say.
    • Velocity Sensitivity and Aftertouch: Two modern additions that let the Prophet-5 perform in ways the original simply couldn't. These unlock expressive filter sweeps, LFO modulation, and dynamic volume control right from the keys — no external gear required.

    Built Like It Means It

Sequential didn't just focus on the electronics. The Prophet-5 is housed in a premium steel and hand-oiled sustainable black walnut heartwood body that looks and feels worthy of the name on the panel. This is the kind of instrument you set up on stage and let speak for itself — both sonically and visually.

    • Five-Octave Semi-Weighted Fatar Keyboard: A full, professional-grade keybed that delivers satisfying, responsive playability whether you're laying down lush pads or hammering out aggressive lead lines.
    • Knob-Per-Function Front Panel: Every parameter has its own dedicated control. Flip off the Preset button to enter live panel mode and what you see is exactly what you hear — pure, immediate, no surprises.
    • Full Connectivity Suite: USB, MIDI, and Gate/CV ins and outs ensure the Prophet-5 plays nicely with your entire studio setup, whether you're working with modern DAWs, vintage sequencers, or modular gear.

    A Legend Reborn

The Sequential Prophet-5 does something rare: it earns its legendary status without leaning on it. The sound is authentic, the build is exceptional, and the playing experience is as immediate and rewarding as analog synthesis gets.

With 200 factory programs — including the original 40-program sound set from 1978 — and 200 rewritable user slots, you're getting decades of history alongside unlimited room to make it your own. This is the Prophet-5 at its absolute best, and it's hard to argue with that.

    Frequently Asked Questions

The Sequential Prophet-5 is a reissued five-voice analog polyphonic synthesizer originally designed by Dave Smith in 1978. The new version faithfully recreates the sound and character of all three original revisions while adding modern features like velocity sensitivity and aftertouch.

The Prophet-5 is one of the only instruments to include both genuine Curtis filters (Rev3) and newly designed 2140 low-pass filters (Rev1/Rev2), selectable via a Rev switch. The Vintage knob also lets you dial in authentic analog voice-to-voice variation, which is very difficult to replicate digitally.

It can work for dedicated beginners, but its depth and character are best appreciated by players with at least some synthesis experience. The knob-per-function layout makes programming straightforward, though the price point and analog complexity make it a more natural fit for intermediate to advanced synthesists.

Yes, the Prophet-5 includes USB, MIDI, and Gate/CV connectivity, making it compatible with most modern DAW setups as well as modular and vintage gear. It integrates cleanly into both contemporary and analog studio environments.

It ships with 200 permanent factory programs and 200 rewritable user program slots. The factory bank includes the iconic original 40-program sound set from 1978, which has been featured on hundreds of professional recordings and film soundtracks.
