Introducing the gold label collection of guitars from master guitar designer Andy Powers. With Taylor’s new Gold Label Collection, Andy has pushed into new sonic terrain for Taylor — inspired by an older, more traditional sound. The guitars in the collection combine several new design elements that contribute to the sound — a new super auditorium body style, a unique V-Class-inspired bracing pattern, and a new long tenon neck joint — plus a new decorative aesthetic. The Gold Label Collection is being introduced as a premium-performance offering within the Taylor lineup but with a unique design identity. The collection continues with the 917e model with Honduran Rosewood back and sides and a torrefied Adirondack Spruce top.

Andy wanted a warmer, older, “heritage” sound — something from more than a generation earlier than when Taylor Guitars was founded (1974); more reminiscent of traditional flattop tone from the 1930s — but with the established benefits of V-Class including improved volume, sustain, responsiveness and pitch accuracy between notes.

This new sonic recipe features changes in body shape and bracing patterns. The V-Class variant features a fan-like arrangement of braces in the soundboard’s lower bout attached with hot hide glue. The sonic result, according to Andy Powers is “a more pronounced richness in the midrange frequencies while delivering strong, low end bass response, capturing the essence of sounds similar to Brazilian Rosewood.”
